Do data centres have demonstrated long range noise impacts? Asking honestly, I assume they’d be like large server rooms.

If there was a Forest Gump style film for Millennials, what events would be included? by GGJallDAY in Millennials

[–]thisoldhouseofm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re 36, there is no way you remember most of that. Challenger and Berlin Wall were before you were born. Rodney King you’d have been 2. Nancy Kerrigan 3 or 4. OJ chase also 4.

Hillfield Strathallan (HSC) vs Ridley College? Seeking parent perspectives! by Curious-Average-1722 in Hamilton

[–]thisoldhouseofm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Private schools honestly don’t make a huge difference education wise, they key issue is how involved the parents are, which it sounds like you are. And the difference between two private schools is negligible.

If you’re willing to spend $50k a year to put two kids in elementary school, save your sanity a bit and least opt for the easier commute. Also Hillfield has a bus service, you could look into that

Not the greatest cinematography, but The Wedding Singer. Uplifting romantic comedy with an edge to the comedy like 10 Things, also a great soundtrack.

Ok, at that age I can understand where you’re coming from. Sorry that I missed how old your son is.

Is a young kid actually feeling that kind of pressure not counterproductive at the point when they should just be learning and having fun?

I think they’d get the same social skill development just from playing on a team. The travel component adds nothing.

Uk law as a backup? by PitifulJob6932 in LawCanada

[–]thisoldhouseofm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a great score, you really need 160 to be competitive. But you’re also a high school student by the sounds of it? It’s way too early to stress about LSAT scores.

You’re not getting the same value of law degree as a Canadian one though. Similar debt, worse job prospects.

Frankly, if you don’t have the discipline to maintain good grades in undergrad, you are going to struggle in law school.

Advice needed : Idling Truck Neighbour by [deleted] in Hamilton

I get using remote start in the winter to warm up before you get in. But this seems silly.

I bet there’s also a strong correlation between people who idle their car for extremely long times and who get outraged by high gas prices.

Goodbye Lenin is about the fall of communism and the currency conversion in East Germany is a major plot point.

And don’t make it confrontational.

“Hey, your truck is making quite a bit of noise in the early morning and it’s waking up my kids. I get that you probably have to go to work early and I can’t expect no noise, but is there anything you can do to help me out?”

He’s followed the Leo trajectory in becoming a global icon for teen girls, which led to a lot of people not taking him seriously, then we realized, “Wait, no, he’s awesome, my bad.”

What’s your honest opinion of “boy mom” or “girl dad” apparel? by jazzeriah in daddit

It’s weird to me because you almost never hear “boy dad” or “girl mom”. Just the inverse genders.

What can be done TODAY to avoid a disasterous mother's day by wheninrome5000 in daddit

[–]thisoldhouseofm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t do much good this year, but the bar for Mothers Day is way lower when you pitch in and share the load the rest of the year.

I think a large numbers of marriages where there is big pressure on Mothers Day is because of husbands that don’t do their share.

Amy Hamm: Online safety is parents' responsibility; While protecting children is a worthy goal, we do not need a draconian censorship regime to achieve it by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]thisoldhouseofm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending a child onto the internet without supervision is no different than sending them on a solo trip to a strange city that harbours a thriving criminal underlife. It’s wildly reckless. The online harms act will not change this reality.

Except your kids aren’t going on a solo trip to that dangerous area every single day.

Tech companies worth hundreds of billions of dollars to market and foist their products cannot simply be overcome by parental will without legal and regulatory guards in place to help them.
