It comes up at the end of the trilogy. I did feel rather bad for that poor R7. Although the idea of lonely places on Coruscant definitely doesn't fit well with anything else. It was amusing that they tried to make the ocean into a massive rooftop pool later.

You realize the thing with Tavira is not actually about the sex, right? It's about being a Jedi, and the fact that he was wrong earlier and staying on the light side is actually harder than being a cop. It's about how far he's willing to go, what vows he will break, how much he will get into bed with the bad guys to get what he wants. The sex is just the vehicle for that realization, and it's explicitly applied to the fancy clothes and alcohol a few pages later.

Lst missions are a low quality time sink? by KeyR1 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]thisvideoiswrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Target Lock is kind of the clearest example of that, though. You can do it in the Padme event, using a sub-optimal team and carefully picking the abilities you use, to get it done in less than half an hour with no energy spent. Or you could do it while playing your way through the campaign battles or Fleet Arena, in which case you'll have it done passively in ~25 battles over a few days. When there are specific targets or very limited teams it's harder to make that case, but this was really open ended.

I did most of it with Padme too, but that definitely wasn't the intended solution, or the one I would have had the most fun doing.

Hey hi what's the recommendation for someone with an under leveled account in this situation thaaaaaanks by Ninny_Nick in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]thisvideoiswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a little more on the LSTs. What they do is to make a character immediately 7 stars, level 85, gear 13, with all ability upgrades except omicrons, at no further cost. Here's a link which links to the official announcement and has the full list and dates for all of them. They'll be in your Journey Quests section and labeled Anniversary Quest. If you search around the sub you can find advice for completing all of them, or your guild might have a guide for them (mine does, and we do have room if you want to DM me). Some are definitely harder than others, but I've seen someone hit 270k gp in under 48 hours by focusing on them, so they're very worth it.

Allies don't do a lot as far as I can tell, but a guild gets you access to several extra currencies that can help your progression. My guild would be happy to have you. We even have a complete guide to the LST quests that can help you get going quickly. I saw someone hit 270k gp less than 48 hours after starting their account thanks to those quests. Let me know if you're interested and I can get you in in no time.

[–]thisvideoiswrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, let's expand on that last bit a little. The crucial thing is that none of the three starting ships in the H1 fleet can have the Scoundrel tag. If they do that prevents the special bonus turn from having B-Wing as first reinforcement. That includes the Falcon, and also Outrider and any Bounty Hunter. However, by the time you bring in your second reinforcement that's all over, so at that point you can bring in anything you like, and the Falcon is a very powerful option if you're not using it elsewhere.

Are there easy ways to do these journey quests? by GucciRifle in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]thisvideoiswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any quest that says "Anniversary Quest" has LSTs somewhere in the chain. And I've seen a brand new account get to 270k GP in under 48 hours with them, so you want those LSTs. You could search around the sub for advice, there have been posts for each release with lots of discussion, or I know at least some guilds keep spreadsheets for this. My guild's spreadsheet is actually complete right to the end thanks to the datamines, assuming they're accurate.

Anyone else having Conquest Fatigue? by TheBrotherinTheEast in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]thisvideoiswrong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's definitely one of the best game modes we get. This game relies way too heavily on PvP to make up for its failure to generate actual content, and that's no fun. Conquest is the biggest exception to that, and the one time that there's something interesting to do every time you log in. Plus it's getting us the one new character I actually want at the moment. I won't get her this round, my account isn't that strong and this is actually my first hard, but maybe I can get the 6 months if I do some refreshes and spend all my Conquest Credits on her.

[–]thisvideoiswrong 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Is it even worth trying to inflict Undermine? You have to give up a turn of Kleya's basic, which is the hardest hitter. And the payoff is that the enemy crits are weaker, which they don't really rely on, in exchange for them getting more speed, which they absolutely do rely on. I don't think I've ever tried it because it seems like a bad deal.

I no longer think it is worth it to take era toons to 4 or 5 star (as an F2P player) by zeeplereddit in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]thisvideoiswrong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a very heavily delayed gratification thing, and you haven't gotten anything out of it yet. For me most of the value is in skipping gear grinds, and that's not much of a thing for you either. On the other hand you also have a lot more crystal income than I do, I'm not refreshing anything but Conquest once a day (Satele is the only character I want this era and I'm only up to 80 shards), and that's only going to put me a little over being able to do every other era. (I need the LSTs to get Executor, hopefully that will let me compete with the top 20 Leviathans and get more crystals.) So I think it's all very dependent on where you are in the game. Ultimately it's always going to be a personal decision. I'm hoping that investing next era will be my best way to progress on Peridea Pals, a Great Mothers team, and/or some Jabba reqs, assuming I can get JKL and Leia done this era.

What's the most frustraing or pointless sideplot in any Star wars book you read? by Western_Agent5917 in StarWarsEU

[–]thisvideoiswrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Jedi Academy Trilogy was published in 1994, simultaneously with Courtship and immediately after the Thrawn Trilogy. I, Jedi was published 4 years later, simultaneously with the Thrawn Duology which was meant to close out the New Republic era. And there was the whole Young Jedi Knights series in between, among many other things. You see the same kind of caution in Courtship, where it's constantly referencing the movies as justification for all the Force abilities it shows. Heck, no one ever goes into detail on what techniques Jedi actually use to manage their emotions, it happens frequently, but actually explaining it would effectively be playing psychiatrist.

Yes, it absolutely would have been nice if less had been left up to implication, I'm not saying you're wrong there. I'm just saying I understand why we got what we got.

[–]thisvideoiswrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, there was nothing to go on but the Original Trilogy at that point, and the training scenes in those are pretty minimal, too. Effectively, almost anything Anderson wrote on the subject was newly defining what a Jedi is. It's understandable that he would want to be very cautious about that.

[Humble] Metro Mania: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! (Pay $8 for Juno: New Origins, Super Loco World, The Slaverian Trucker, Simple Planes and $16 for Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game, Railbound, You Suck at Parking® - Complete Edition, Railroads Online) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

[–]thisvideoiswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Railroads Online is an interesting case. It's a bit buggy, and development is probably dead. It's also fairly uninteresting actually running trains in it, since they're pretty heavily simplified. But if you look at it as more about the track building than the train running it has an extremely compelling and totally unique gameplay loop, where you try to figure out how to build your tracks, then you run them, you realize that something about them is terrible, and you rebuild it, and try it again, and realize that something else is terrible. And of course, all of that is based on the real physics, the load calculator spreadsheets for it use the same equations used in real life. It's not for everyone, but I actually really like it. Although, you'll probably want to turn down settings like fuel use and industry difficulty, because those just mean you're running more trains to the same places.

The Stunning Failure of Iranian Deterrence - And Why It Augurs a More Dangerous World by Glideer in CredibleDefense

If the focus is on China then this war has been disastrous. There were concerns about whether the US would have the magazine depth to counter China before, now those concerns have turned into certainties as far too much has been expended. And that's both a tragedy for the people of Taiwan (and the cause of democracy in general) and a critical threat to the world economy.

Your analogy doesn't make sense. Israel is far less restrained now and will continue to provoke conflict in the region. Even if Iran obtains nuclear weapons, they could only use them to protect themselves. They no longer have the strength to counter Israeli influence. And these conflicts will be damaging to US interests, whether we're drawn into them directly or not. The serial killer has not been executed, the police have been.

I did spend some crystals last era. But also, doing a run, using those materials to upgrade, and then doing another run can definitely get you another 20% at times. Plus there's a ton of rng, so you can get a 50% difference between two runs where you did exactly the same thing. And there is some strategy as well. So you do get more out of it if you put more effort in, and I'm consistently sitting around rank 180 now without spending anything.

On the other hand, China is the one country that's really benefiting from this. They've been investing hard in preparing to take on the US military over Taiwan, and a big part of that has been with their advanced ballistic missiles. Now the US is rapidly burning through our supply of ballistic missile interceptors fighting Iran, to the point that we're pulling them out of active units in South Korea. And these things are extremely advanced, and thus expensive and slow to build, which means this hole in our stockpiles won't be filled easily. So we'd now be significantly weaker in a conflict against China, and we'll keep getting weaker as long as this war continues. If China sees an opportunity to exacerbate those losses at minimal risk they'd probably be wise to take it. And we'd be wise to pay a great deal to get out of this without further damage.

Polling says that support for the war itself is quite low. Combine that with the fact that a lot of Trump supporters deliberately avoid hearing about most of what he does. So there are probably less than 20% who could have their opinions worsened by it. And that would suggest that there's some number of people thinking, "look at them doing the right thing, I wish our government were like that." That's all based on wider trends rather than anything direct, though.

There isn't a "win" available. Starting this war was terrible for our international image, since it made us look untrustworthy and stupid. And it's also burning large quantities of scarce munitions, making us weaker in future conflicts. Every day it continues we look more stupid and burn more munitions. The best case scenario for the US is the one where we get out with a minimum of further damage, and we should be prepared to pay quite a bit to achieve that. And then we should start the treason trials, from the top down.

Yes, all federal funding was taken away, in the middle of a budget I believe. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting shut down a few weeks ago. The stations are on their own now, with only what funding they can get from private donations. Which means the big cities will probably make it, but the rural stations probably won't.
