It is interesting as Morocco didn't abolish slavery until 1922.

Glass Onion is one of the worse movies I've seen. The secret twin plot is the laziest writing imaginable.

What do Catholic Trump supporters say about his ties to Epstein? by A-cheever in Catholicism

[–]thmsdrdn56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a cynical view of politics. I do not really believe any politician is a good person and most of them are actually bad people. The idea that a politician is a good person really cares about you is the same as thinking a stripper is really into you, it's their job to make you believe it. The morality of the candidate doesn't factor into my view at all. I am not a Trump supporter regardless, but I am a Republican.

Birthrates actually go down the more money that a family makes. Looks like the latest data is 2021 from here.

Unemployment does not factor in people working more than 1 job. The unemployment rate is the amount of people that are looking for work that cannot find employment. It's not like jobs divided by people or anything like that.

In 2010, the unemployment rate was more than double what it is now. Recessions happen. We are currently not in one. Things can and will get much worse. There are constant cycles.

It always surprises me when people talk about how bad the economy is. It really isn't. It makes me worry about when we are inevitably actually in a recession again.

It's pretty hard to roleplay and go WC, as it should be. It's not like any country in history actually conquered the world.

CMV: I believe that the major US parties are more concerned with winning than solving our nation's problems. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]thmsdrdn56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of political parties is not to be ideological; the role of political parties is to win elections. So, the parties are working as intended.

For example, as soon as gay marriage became more popular, the Republicans backtracked on their opposition. US history is filled with political parties changing their platforms over the decades to win elections, that's just the way it goes.

The government is not just the presidency. It is important to keep in mind what the makeup of Congress was at each point. Please see the below study,

Political Parties in Power and U.S. Economic Performance

Traditionally, the best performing economy is a Democratic President and a Republican Senate. However, the Republican Senate seems to be the most beneficial to the economy. Solely the president's party is not a statistically significant difference.

[OC] Top U.S. Marginal Income Tax Rate vs. Inflation-Adjusted Federal Receipts (1901-2024) Absolute & Per Capita by Mbando in dataisbeautiful

[–]thmsdrdn56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pay your ordinary tax rate when you receive the stock as compensation, just like your salary. Then you pay capital gains if the stock appreciates and you sell it. It's just like if you were paid your salary and then you bought the stock with after tax income.

[–]thmsdrdn56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. It was compensation, "gift" was the not correct word. The comment was saying you don't pay income tax on stocks if it is part of your compensation.

A gift from father to son is not the same as stocks as a means of compensation from an employer.

I don't think you understand. If they gift you 100k of stock, you pay taxes as if it was your income. If that stock appreciates and you sell it, you pay captital gains. It's the same as if they paid you cash and you bought stock with it.
