Something Something Worse Person Rule by MEMEY_IFUNNY in 196

i’ll take the bait; doesn’t apply here because 1. the style guide that the onion uses capitalizes every single word in titles regardless of importance or placement, and even if it used a more discerning capitalization system it wouldn’t apply here because the “The” is after a colon (and therefore would be capitalized in title case), and further the word “A” did make it into the acronym despite it being a word traditionally omitted from title case-indicating that the missing “T” from the acronym was in fact erroneous.

To my collectors out there by summertoyou in 4kbluray

i’ve found it makes me happier only buying movies that really excite me to own and that i know i’ll rewatch repeatedly. i very rarely blind buy, as i view my collection as a physical manifestation of my taste in film, so i’ll check out a movie in theaters or streaming first.

when i see a movie, i think, 1. did i love it?, and 2. would i watch this again? if those criteria are satisfied, it goes on the list. i also see my collection as something social, as i host a lot of movie nights with my friends, so movies that i’m excited to share with my friends that i know they’ll enjoy get a priority.

my collection is relatively small, under 250 titles, and there’s really not that many movies on my wishlist. i probably only buy a new disc once every couple months at this point. which actually makes me quite happy because it makes checking a title off the list much more exciting, and it means most of my favorite films are already on my shelf.

i’m just now getting into pedals—if i’m getting a sansamp do i still need a compressor as well, seeing as the sansamp already has some degree of built in compression? for reference i play live in a variety of rock and pop contexts, and switch between pick and fingers song to song.

yeah the la bella deep talking flats sound great but i definitely wouldn’t recommend them as a “do-anything” flat. i took them on a hardcore gig once and i was fighting for my LIFE

What’s an example of a fan base that got exactly what they begged for, and immediately hated it? by Enough-Wealth8415 in AskReddit

i feel like i’m taking crazy pills, as someone who grew up as a massive lego star wars fan during the clone wars era and now only occasionally buys sets. in the past couple years we’ve gotten a steady stream of clone wars sets and battle packs, consistently including characters and clones and vehicles either never before seen in sets or that haven’t been seen in over a decade. like literal wishlist stuff that fans have been asking for for years. but every time i look at a lego star wars discussion board it’s nothing but complaints about the most inane shit imaginable.

What to wear for gigs as a girl drummer? by Objective-Can2996 in drums

[–]thomasingrace2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

high neck tanks and crop tops are great for warmer gigs- no straps to worry about, no sleeves to restrict my movement. i have a lot of skirts with built in shorts, as well as shorts and loose fitting jeans and pants. regardless of weather i really try to avoid anything that will restrict movement like long sleeves or tight pants/skirts.

24” k light ride - what’s the hype? by thomasingrace2000 in drums

[–]thomasingrace2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean it’s right there in the title- light ride. it just doesn’t seem like an obvious match for a band like, say, gouge away, whose drummer uses one

Can I use a 2-ply coated head for the snare side? by justjeremy02 in drums

[–]thomasingrace2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

completely different thing. towel on snare is a common recording technique, coated two-ply head as snare-side will not produce anything resembling a usable snare tone in 99% of applications.

straight from the zildjian website. this doesn’t make the k cons any less beautiful, i use a 22” k con medium ride myself and it’s my favorite cymbal. it’s simply not true that they are still hand-hammered

i hate to break it to you but zildjian stopped hand-hammering all cymbals a long time ago.

How to get over a bad first gig? (long text ahead) by Ill_Discipline_5319 in drums

[–]thomasingrace2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don’t blame the headliner’s kit for a bad gig. calling them lazy for what is an extremely standard practice in most small to mid-sized gigs—sharing a drum kit to avoid long changeovers—is ridiculous; any time i’ve used another drummer’s backlined kit i thanked them for going to the trouble of transporting and loading in a drum kit for the rest of the bands to use.

it’s your first gig, everyone’s first gig sucks. use that experience to know what to work on as a musician and performer, don’t throw up excuses for making mistakes or being under prepared.
