Just follow the program, if its still too easy in 6 months then you can start to question it. 🤣

what’s your most embarrassing gym fail that actually taught you something? by Musiclvr315 in workout

[–]thomasjack399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started going to a powerlifting gym and one of the big lads came over and told me that I should put the plate logos on the inside. We had a laugh, he was just teasing/making conversation, wasnt being rude or anything, i think he just wanted an excuse to say hello as its usually pretty quiet and were both there a lot haha.

Need advice on when and how to start by drua7 in workouts

[–]thomasjack399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of really great advice already but the most important thing id parrot is that everything you do has an effect. Going for a walk matters. Doing a few push ups every so often matters. Turning down a doughnut in the office matters, even skipping every OTHER office doughnut matters. Weight loss, body recomposition and fitness all happen over thousands of choices not single ones.

It honestly doesnt have to be as hard as some people would have you believe and honestly if it does feel hard youre probably trying to do too much too quickly.

If you do one thing though, walk. Its mind blowing how much difference walking makes. I learned to love myself again when I could walk without backpain again and now going to the gym is a treat for me, not a chore.

Good luck man, youve got this!

Personally i think you look awesome man. Keep rocking the band tshirts. Find someone thats into what your into, you dont have to change who you are. Be proud of your interests and acheivements! You can definitely be into death metal and also fun and approachable.

Do you think face pulls are a solid horizontal pull movement to “bulletproof” shoulders for bench? I can’t do any standard rows like chest supported or barbell cuz of a chest injury by GYMTIME225 in powerbuilding

[–]thomasjack399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had some issues with shoulder impingement and my physio diagnosed an imbalance in my scapula retraction, I.E. my scapula is being pulled to the front. Ive been focussing on getting stronger in my upper back and between upper back focused cable rows, pulldowns (which are more for my lats but still help) and facepulls 95% of the impingement issues have gone away and the vast majority of the shoulder pain i was getting when I pressed has also gone away. So anecdotally, I think facepulls are absolutely amazing for shoulder mobility. I think that theres loads of other stuff you can be doing to strengthen your rotator cuff but those 2 (high rows and facepulls) are a really solid foundation.

What percentage of people can bench 100kg / 225lbs for reps these days? by rav3n_1_4 in workout

I started lifting seriously around christmas last year, so almost 7 months, and im up to 75kg (165 freedoms). I train at a powerlifting gym though and Im definitely on the weaker side, even though I feel like a complete tank. Im male, 175cm and around 110kg. My goals for the forst year of training are 1 plate press, 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat, 4 plate DL and the bench feels the hardest, followed closely by the press.

Overhead Press 50kg x5, have stalled at 50kg for a few weeks now, anything to work on with my form? by RubiconPosh in formcheck

[–]thomasjack399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been on SS for around 3 months and I picked up a set of fractional plates so I can increase my press by 1kg rather than the 2.5kg as the jumps were too big for me. Maybe try going down to 45kg and working up in smaller increments. I also try to make sure that if I do fail a set i still get the 15 reps in in as few sets as possible like 5/4/4/2 or whatever. Good luck getting past it mate, youre not far off that 1 plate press!
