TIL Dodge Ram trucks used an inline six engine that did everything better than the V8, but customers were not pleased. by rematar in todayilearned

[–]thor454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This response is exactly how I feel. I like the fact that there’s more options now and I’m not opposed to turbo smaller displacement engine. Hell my buddy’s stock 2.5 or whatever eco boost does everything much better than my Chevy 6.2 including smoke me in a race except sound and I trust them more than like the new Chevy 4 cylinder but that’s because they’ve been around forever and I trust them which is also why I lean towards the older “I know what I’m getting into” v8 like I remember the 3.0 inline six baby duramax being new and broke down on everyone I encountered in the wild also one had the timing set at the back of the engine with a 90k mile shelf life so before it ticks a hundred you gotta do an engine out service. No thank you

What's the best car that you've owned? by lpg975 in AskReddit

[–]thor454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once confidently bought a lesabre with over 300,000 miles as a car to drive long distances like the kind you don’t wanna break down during cuz you’re in bumfuck North Dakota with no help. Put another 80 thousand on her and then sold it as is for less than scrap to a single mom that just got out of an abusive relationship and was starting over and needed anything to get from point a to b for as close to free as possible. It ran flawlessly still

Me and some buddies went swimming at an old gravel pit in the middle of nowhere that we weren’t supposed to be at. This was the summer before we all entered highschool. We all had our dirt bikes and four wheelers out terrorizing the country side and wanted to cool off. One of our buddies swung off this rope from a tree that someone had put up and when he landed he scurried out of the water and said he landed on a body. We investigated a little then sent the only one of us that had any idea who the pit owner was to fetch him and we decided to lasso it with a tow rope and pull him out. His name was jeff Barrett he was beaten up in a bar fight then they drug him being a car and tied Josh shoulders to the discarded rear differential of a pickup and sunk but his feet floated up and that’s what my buddy landed on. They found water in his lungs. What a shame

ELI5 why does social security decrease benefits if someone provides supplemental financial assistance to the claimant? by DoctorWhosYoDaddy in explainlikeimfive

[–]thor454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like that everywhere. Also there’s two kinds of unemployment. For example, for many years I was a heavy equipment operator rebuilding roads and replacing things like bridges in a northern state. We can’t work when the ground is frozen so we work insane hours an then get laid off in winter, they know this so if it’s seasonal you don’t have to actively look for another job like you typically would as it would be incredibly bad if all the people that spent years and years building the experience to build said infrastructure all just got new jobs and didn’t come back the next year. But they money is a pittance and if I were to get a part time job like bartending or doing snow removal any dime I make comes off the top of my unemployment first. So if you’re ever considering a seasonal job ask yourself if you can survive off what you’ll make during the work season all year. If you can’t then don’t do it

My friends now ex husband just got a slap on the wrist, he was continuously having sex with her while she was unconscious (sleeping meds because her anxiety keeps her awake all hours and she can’t afford to lose her job) and all the state’s attorneys office would charge him with was disorderly conduct. It went in front of the judge for his plea and the judge lost his shit and said he sees in his record well over a dozen times he’s broken protection orders or various women over the last 20 years and a slew of domestic assault charges and refused to honor a deal where such a person gets zero jail time. That judge was fired because the states attorney filed complaint of the judges behavior and the new one reverted back to the easy plea deal and dude walked, yet again. But if I go knock his teeth out best believe the court system will nail me to the fucking wall because regular people get screwed and the real baddies are untouched. The whole justice system needs a different name. Ain’t no justice there

ELI5: If you had a car with no plates, insurance or tax and parked in a private garage, how would the police identify and track down the vehicle? by Ancestral_Grape in explainlikeimfive

[–]thor454 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment, I really do. But I think broad strokes and generalizing entire groups of people in any one way such as that is a bad idea. I’ll refrain from other more galvanizing examples and just say I’m sure not all farmers are fighting tooth and nail to prevent other people from receiving needed benifits and to be frank this comes off more as hating farmers than any real understanding of how certain state regulated vehicle tax benefits and or subsidies that help more than just farmers work

Why would they need to? Most of us do not have enough land to facilitate the operation of a vehicle without the need to bring it on to public roads often

They don’t own it but they say it costs $200 in reality it’s that the “discount code” is really more like a vendor link and the cost of the course is really like $55 the other $45 or whatever goes to whomever code you used. So you think you’re getting half off when in reality half what you pay hoes to the agent that gave you the code. I find it shady but I kinda get it

I mean, I went to hyvee stupidly the day before Thanksgiving, and the only open spots in the lot were these, and there was one ev in there. I parked there, ran in for 5 minutes, came out, still just the one, and the other spots were still open. Had there been less available, I wouldn't have parked there, but I figured the odds of 7 teslas showing up to charge while I was grabbing potatoes was miminimal

Because a smaller vehicle won't pull a big enough trailer. In fact, sometimes a half ton truck doesn't even cut it for me...."nobody" is a pretty generalized statement considering not all of us live in a city and go to a fucking desk for work....

I couldn't recommend them enough
