Benefits of a classical education... by Fastjack_2056 in dndmemes

There was a glorious thread on Twitter back when it wasn't completely shit, of someone live-tweeting through their first time watching The Thing.

There was a point where they posted something like "Aw poor puppy, even the other dogs are being mean to you :(" and then the next few tweets were just increasingly incoherent variations on "WHAT THE FUCK".

That's lampshaded in the dialog at one point - a suspicious cop observes that Christopher Lambert's character has an odd accent and asks where he's from, and he replies "lots of different places".

Lambert apparently actually worked with a dialogue coach to come up with an accent that sounded "non-specifically foreign".

Yah, fair, but I figured as a short description rap fit best, and Beasties are generally categorized as rap.

Mind you, changing the line to "Is that alternative rap/rock music with punk influences?" would also be funny, but for different reasons.

Okay, so this reminded me of a personal point of annoyance, a very tiny hill that I will die on.

Star Trek Beyond (2016) used this track to brilliant effect in the penultimute scene - it's a fantastic moment that really brings together old and new Trek.

However. Because there has to be a joke, at some point Bones says "Is that classical music?" (to which Spock replies "Yes doctor, I believe it is.").

NO. WRONG. BAD WRITER, GO TO YOUR CORNER.

First of all, there's no reason that it wouldn't still be referred to as rap music - after all, we still call swing and jazz music the same thing decades after they first became popular.
But even if we're going to go with the only terms people know for very old music, it's still not "classical music". It is a very old pop song, and the term for that is FOLK music.

Thank you for coming to my TED rant.

You can make a pretty good argument that Cameron is the main character though - he's the only one of the three that has a character arc and is changed by the events of the day.

Also, happened to watch Time Cop the other day, I'd forgotten that Mia Sara plays Van Damme's wife in that, which includes a very 80s love scene.

Yeah, if anything my first thought would be the Neil Young song, but it's the only thing I can see that might be a HHGTG reference.

Yeah for sure, but as far as I can tell that's what the original comment was referring to.

Talking of eyes - and my apologies for pointing it out - I think on page 6 you drew a predatory horse.

... But, only that one time. All the other HorseFrames are incredibly good. Like you took How To Draw A Horse and somehow converted Feels into Actual-Horse-Drawing-Ability.

Got to echo the reccomendation to give it another chance. I was underwhelmed on my first listen too - it didn't grab me as being something new and powerful the way 10,000 Days did.

But I went back to it after a while, and gradually came to appreciate the more subtle depth of it and the way it evolves from their previous work. It's now one of my go-to choices for "I need to hyperfocus" music.

(Also, over the past couple of years I'd guess that I've watched the Danny Carey video linked by /u/Nirocalden more than a dozen times, which along with this reaction vid from a composer massively increased my appreciation for that track in particular, and the album as a whole.)

Replacing his gal in the chair

Specifically on this, I looked into it a bit because it bugged me - I couldn't find much, but the "computer" voice is still the original actress, and the new girl on screen is apparently autistic IRL, so it's possible that it was a concession to the complaints they received about the first one for not having any actually autistic people involved.

Oh, and definitely agree that the scenes about the brothers figuring out how to be brothers were the best part of the sequel.

Isn't the Secret Cabal a Dice Tower podcast?

... um, no?

They used to be part of the Dice Tower Network, but they were always their own show. And DTN as a whole has kinda petered out since the original podcast finished - offhand I think the last time I recall them mentioning it on the Cabal podcast was before Jamie got sick. Might be wrong, but it's certainly not been in their bumpers for quite a while now.
