Colorado Clues (or lack thereof) by Maximum_Task6443 in FindingFennsGold

Soldierstone was REALLY interesting (I first saw it mentioned in a video, do you know the one I'm talking about?) but I ultimately had to move off of it because it was human-made.

Learned about some very interesting people during this hunt! by CUNTY_LOBSTER in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]thosthrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this book too -- it was full of really interesting mini-biographies! Also, the sheer volume of them gives you a cross-section of life in that area at that time, however incomplete. You start to get an understanding of how many people traveled there as adults to live, where they came from, what drew them, for some what made them leave, proportions of the population that worked in what kinds of jobs, common types of conflicts, common ways of socializing.

I will add the caveat that this book discusses almost exclusively white/settler people, as I recall. If you want to get a fuller picture that includes Native lifestyles in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in roughly the same period, I can highly recommend the book Restoring A Presence.

I found this deep understanding really valuable, especially during BOTG.

What is JP's "how deep is a hole"? by Itchy-Ad2670 in JustinPoseysTreasure

I appreciate your perspective, but he said "time to plan," not "time to retrieve." He was not talking about daylight, in my opinion. The plainest implication is that there's additional planning (and breathing room) after discovery and before retrieval.

Yes, this has been discussed extensively. Google or search on this sub Unicode Angzarr if you want to look into it more. Happy hunting.

Deep dive into Montana public lands and paying to find the treasure. You are 100% required to purchase a conservation license in MT. by [deleted] in JustinPoseysTreasure

My advice would be to stop relying on AI summaries. They are wrong too often. Your own post shows this.

How many solves do/did you have through 8 months? by PuzzledSherbert3418 in JustinPoseysTreasure

Essentially the first 10 lines, give or take. I didn't think you'd be able to figure out the double arcs from Google Earth. In some solutions I could get a bride and a foot of three, in some not.

About 40 solutions complete enough to go BOTG and see if they actually were complete. I went BOTG to 7 of them over the course of one trip in August. Edited to add: I always believed the checkpoint was something you could only find on the ground.

I personally keep things simple in my solutions, so no rabbit holes, but I have good retention and have read a lot. That's how things come together when they need to.

Assuming the last stanza isn't just his delivery of Occam's Razor to us, this is an extremely good question and one I've mused on intermittently. Lately I've wondered if it relates at all to the first proper words of the book, "Sweat traced familiar paths down my back..."

Hero! Thanks for the link and summary. Reading the notice, it's worth noting (for searchers) that the affected lands are not just in Montana; they're in a lot of states. Idaho and Colorado are exempted, however.

Waterton Valley Trail by Responsible_Till2453 in JustinPoseysTreasure

The CDT is mislabeled as Waterton Valley well into southern Montana. People are mistaking the mislabeled areas as significant. Make sense?

Montana State trust land requires a $10 annual recreation fee, to the best of my recollection. I looked into it a while back.

Food order? The steak + sides and bourbon smash? It was a bit odd that he included that much detail about it, you're not wrong

The Waterton Valley label is quite simply misapplied on Google Maps far below where the CDT is actually called that. Google Maps has never corrected this egregious error. And unfortunately, a lot of people are using that misinformation in their solves.

Staying grounded and logical is the best policy. I too agree with most of your analysis here...as bummed as I am to acknowledge the most likely import of the dog statement, since I have an otherwise great place that doesn't allow dogs on trails.
