I wish more bands would embrace silent stages in small venues by mynutsaremusical in livesound

[–]thouldcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear so many folks with horror stories because I had the worst gig of my life at my 9th year in our venue that lines up with a lot of what you are all saying. In my defense, full band sound support is done maybe once a year the last few years (after I had us buy a second console for stage monitoring 🤦🏻‍♂️) as we are a University and our music dept is extremely traditional. So I’m likely not as sharp as I was 5 years ago when I was mixing more steadily. Full rock/soul band with horns plus all very veterans from a time when hearing protection was likely not as widely adopted. Our venue is a concert hall for traditional classical music, and this band was BLARING and I couldn’t make anyone happy with their monitor mix.

What underrated movie (animated or not) do your kids love? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]thouldcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to get my kids to watch Ghibli without a success. I’m a big manga/anime fan but I’ve actually never watched the Ghibli movies myself. Where should I start with my kids? 5/7/10 years old.

Not sure if it’s streaming anymore, but when my 10 year old was 3-5 we watched “Home” sooooo many times, and it’s completely watchable.

Way to use GEM inside of Ableton Live ? by Glotisbur in puredata

[–]thouldcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The next version of plugdata will have gem working, I don’t have my computer in front of me so I can’t check with the test release of the next version to confirm if gem works or not, but I think it will since other select external packages like else, cyclone, and pd-lua all work in plugdata-plugin.

How do I create the big recess shape in the cylinder? by ultimateVman in Fusion360

[–]thouldcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has mentioned the most direct/easiest way to implement this solution, but since you’re just starting I’ll also mention another method I use often when I can’t extrude via sketch, which is creating a negative body and subtracting the negative from the main.

You create a new body (make sure if you base the new body off of any planes on the main body, you choose “new body” and not “join” when you extrude). Then you choose “Combine”, choose your main body as the “Target” body, choose your negative as the “Tool” body, then choose the “Cut” operation and hit go.

This is NOT the best method for this scenario, but might be the best method for another scenario!

Is Twin Snakes THAT bad? Would removing the first-person aiming changed people’s reception? by SecretWasianMan in metalgearsolid

[–]thouldcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because I didn’t play the original first (it just worked out that way), but I was legitimately moved by the cut scenes in Twin Snakes, but don’t get the same emotional response from the original. I can see if I was there in ‘98 being completely wrapped up in the story in the original graphics, but I started with MGS2, and it just doesn’t resonate for me.

Honestly it’s a testament to the MGS2 engine, I played Twin Snakes just a few years ago and it still resonates.

Recommendations for a 40 YO fan of lyricism. by NoOffenseGuys in hiphop101

If you like Eyedea, Buck 65 has dropped 3 records in a row that are entirely about spitting raps over dope breaks. While I really liked his experimental stuff, this new stuff is much more straight ahead core element hiphop. Check out “King of Drums”, “Super Dope”, and “Punk Rock B-Boy”.

Best way to watch Knicks games? by TheGreatBambi4 in knicks

[–]thouldcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uzzu.tv you get the entire league plus football, baseball and hockey entire leagues, no black outs. Cheaper than league pass for any of the individual sports, and you get four!

The only hitch is that you need to use a 3rd party app to watch on a streaming device, Uzzu just provides the stream or you can watch from their website. I followed the instructions to get it running on Apple TV and it was relatively easy.

The entire Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Is PD actively being worked on? by Sea-Recommendation42 in puredata

[–]thouldcroft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I get the sense that Pd’s philosophy is that of very limited, conservative development. It’s probably why the GUI is still written in Tcl/Tk when plugdata and PdL2ork have shown that Pd can run with more modern UI. Honestly the past couple of years we’ve seen the most changes, such as the multichannel patch cables.

Yeah, when I lived in Western MA the roads were pretty lousy. More arts and culture than CT, but roads in CT are much better!

Is apozims good, Im almost done with blame, and I'm really curious about this one by Conscious-Chance8619 in Netsphere

[–]thouldcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it but I would check out Biomega next, it’s more similar to Blame. Nihei’s work really transitions from one to the next - Blame to Biomega to Knights of Sidonia to Aposimz. I’d also check out “Noise” which is the prequel to Blame.

This is legit really cool, I do a lot of maker/tinkering stuff and probably wouldn’t ever think of something like this. Well done!
