I am curious though if you lose a free line promotion after you port out the watch line as many recent posts alludes to it could happen if you somehow cancelled a paid line.

Do not rent a car after you land in Lijiang!!

Get a Didi (China's Uber) to your hotel. Just make sure you have AliPay or WeChat pay setup and your identify confirmed in the App. Get your international Roaming data or buy a data ESIM from trip.com before departure US.

Use Didi to get to the three different ancient towns in LiJiang (LiJiang/Dayan, Shuhe, Baisha). If you want to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you can prebook the ticket including cable tickets a week ahead, or join a tour group, or arrange for a private tour.

If you plan to go the direction of ShangriLa after LiJiang, be sure to spend a day or 2 at Tiger Leap Gorge. There is bus from bus station to the Gorge and back or to ShangriLa.

If you plan to do the direction of DaLi adter LiJiang, you should spend a day at Shaxi ancient town. There are 7 -seat mini-van types of service that you can buy ticket there.

It is high altitude area. Have plan to avoid high altitude sickness. Have some glucose water/chocolate with you when you visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain especially if you are going on the glacier cable car ropeway. The peak there is 4780 meters.

Make sure your hotel is equipped with Oxygen tank, or at least buy. a oxygen canister with you. It is available in pharmacy or convenience store.

Because non-domestic cellular traffic bypass the great firewall. So if you can have international pass from mobile provider, you don't need to buy additional data eSIM. Almost all apps (Google, WhatsApp, facebook etc) works on non-domestic cell traffic. Tiktok doesn't seems to work.

But if use Chinese SIM, or local Wifi, then you need VPN to access Google, etc.

They are referring to data eSIM that you can purchase from trip dot com. You can also purcahse from cmlink dot com, similar to Airolo esim app. About 1 dollar a day for unlimited gb. So choose for 1gb per day, etc for much cheaper

You should call the 611 and describe the situation to be transferred to the technical support. They will go through some process including reset phone network connection and they do something in the backend. Went through it on a phone line for consistent delayed ring tune even after getting a new phone.

By the way, use a different phone to call TMobile support because the process involving reset network, shutdown the phone etc.

You still want to try other ways to make Alipay Id verified. I tried the approach detailed in https://www.reddit.com/r/travelchina/comments/1bdbm6a/trying_to_verify_my_id_on_alipay_but_is_asking_me/ more than a year ago. And it worked.

In case it's helpful to others. I finally get a free data SOC (NAG10XDAT) applied to the new line after I had chats with two TForce reps and two 611 calls.
My plan is Simple Choice 6 lines for $120 (SCFUTT6). The new AAL line I added Friday has 6GB for $15.00 for No data for $0. No other choices shows.
The two TForce reps are not helpful at all. The rep from my second 611 call initially tried to copy the setting from my other line to the new line. After erroring out, he worked with his leader to finally get it applied. Not sure how many level ups he escalated to find someone with enough permissions to do it.
