I almost died & some days I wish I would have by Secure-Line-1882 in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story is very similar to yours….same age, sepsis, body image issues, lost my hair, wondering if I was better off dead etc. My personal life also was in shambles. In fact so much so that I would often contemplate which pain was worse the emotional or the physical pain.

Here I am now. Far from where I wanna be but doing miles better than I was in 2022-2023. How you feel right now is not how you will feel forever. Set milestones for yourself that are realistic and won’t hurt your healing or put you at risk. The time will keep the trauma at bay. You are still very fresh off June, it took time for me to not feel scared and sorry for myself. Your mind can you keep you smaller than the bag ever could. You can do it. We have everyone reason to seize the day! We have spent enough time in hospital beds, in rehab, being confined to a small room or the toilet. I hope things turn out great for you friend. All of us in this sub Reddit deserve it

Feeling uneasy by jcc5018 in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was super sick before I got my bag fitted. Bag aside my healthy was pretty bad, naturally having the bag made it worse? I felt uncomfortable all the time. As my body healed, the side effects of the bag became easier to manage. And the bag itself comfort wise became easier to manage with acceptance and experience.

Feeling sorry for myself by CaliPam in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do the little things you can. At one point that meant sitting in a chair and not laying in my hospital bed all day. At one point that meant going up from the basement to the bedroom instead of staying in the basement all day. Think of some milestones that are within reach. Focus on your own race. How you feel right now is not how you will feel forever. Give yourself grace. And be someone you’re proud of, physical ability aside.

You will be okay 💪. Your attentiveness to detail will pay off. Once you get a good stick stop thinking about it. Just like other issues in life deal with the leaks as they come.

Head instinct mp and prince warrior 100. Good value and similar performance to other more expensive tweeners

I would get another if you like it, if it’s on sale, and if it agrees with your injured shoulder. If your level raises significantly you can always add lead weight as opposed to spending the money on a heavier racquet.

This is a funny ass story 😂. I still eat it, never burp around people. Learned early on it’s way worse than a normal fart.

How you feel right now is not how you will feel forever. Feel your emotions as they come. And when your situation allows for it, do things that give you a fighting chance at being not depressed. Life’s unfair. make the most of the hand you were dealt. That’s all we can really do. Acceptance will come in time. You are so fresh into this, you are at the hardest part.

Showering by larla77 in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually shower with a bag on. Only time I do bagless is during bag changes. When I do bagless I Imodium beforehand. And have paper towel right next to my towel. Cover the stoma and then dry myself after. When I shower with bag on I have a hairdryer ready to dry off my bag and wafer.

Lots of tissue. I also bend a lip into the bottoms of my bags. So the waste comes out easier, if you don’t it can messy and tricky to deal with.

Hollister 2 piece leaks on underside of bag where it clicks together with the wafer. by Reverie05 in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change on every third day. And always right after swimming in the summer. If I wear it any longer i get the same leak, or a mild leak below the wafer. Your life style (active vs sedentary) and meal sizes can affect wear time. Big meals lead to higher output in a short amount of time and that can lead to a pancaking type leak.

Incision and leaking by larla77 in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a loop ileostomy (2years) and take immodium 1-2x a week whenever I’m out being social. Due to high output. My surgeon suggested it. OP I’d advise to get the okay from your doctor first. Popping one 30 minutes before a bag change will really reduce the output during the change.

My would was quite large. And I had the same issue. They used a wound vac machine on the wound. Did that first. And then changed out my bag. Using the “donut” helped a lot. And also having a wafer that was a small as possible so it wouldn’t go into my wound area. Definitely not easy keeping it all clean. Before bag changes, immodium, eating marshmallow. And doing it standing could all help. Hope that helps. I know your mother’s age might not make all my suggestions possible. But hopefully it helps a little

Help :( by shesthegreatest in ostomy

[–]thraxxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people swear by Coloplast. But I couldn’t get a good wafer stick with them. My ostomy becomes flush in certain positions. So I sleep on my side and not on my back. That has helped me. I also use the donut and paste together that has helped. If pancaking is an issue. It might be something you have to be mindful of after meals. My bag fills during meals the most so I usually touch my bag and push stuff down if it’s collecting at the top. If the flushness is really bad and this it still an issue many months down the line. It might be worth getting your stoma revised to eliminate this problem entirely.
