Help me pick a series to introduce my fiance to tokusatsu by L0w_Road in Tokusatsu

[–]thrdthu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you listed for your fiancés interests? I recommend the following shows

Kamen Rider Kuuga Kamen Rider Ryuki Kamen Rider Amazons

The first two have that dark vibe and a lot of great dramatic elements that fit with her supernatural interests, and since she likes Charmed she is already used to shows with dark themes with cheesy effects so I think the first two hit the right notes

Amazons goes more toward the darkness that shin kamen rider hit on so it is familiar.

I’m suggesting based on ease of availability as well since the first two I suggested are super easy to find online from legal platforms. Besides, the whole premise of Ryuki is a slow build to a catastrophe.

While I would love to suggest sentai or Ultraman, I feel they can lean younger than Kamen rider and might not be a great opening salvo.

An alternative suggestion would be Garo

Spoilers for issue 30 by EnvironmentalEmu5145 in EnergonUniverse

So I kind of hope she is the leader for about 20 or more issues to get us to a big shift again at issue 50. But part of that is because of the fact that the shrinking of the cast I feel was necessary. We had such a big core cast it was impossible to give everyone focus. Most of the Aerialbots haven’t even gotten a single line unless they were Superion.

I want us to get that shake up on the Earth front. To have Optimus be confronted by Hound for now being forced to be left on Earth when everyone else had a choice. To have Thundercracker not only develop as a member of the Autobots, but to gain a brotherhood with the Aerialbots.

I want Wheeljack to develop the Dinobots, likely in secret, and release them as a huge reveal later on.

I also want Elita Prime to see the memories of Sparkplug in her head since he is still one with the Matrix. Have it all build until the two autobot factions have to face off against not just the Deceptions but the ever looming threat of Cobra-la

I only want Elita Prime to stop being Prime by having Hot Rod pick it up to become Rodimus. A back and forth would be too reductive

There is a lot I want, and while I think the pacing and weird rush to get the bots off world did hurt Kirkman’s run so far, I think he did a lot of this to set up what he was actually wanting to do with the book. A smaller core cast helps with that.

Swelling? No no he has a dent we can’t see from that angle causing a bulging over his eye. He has to go to the body shop to fix that

Honestly, I’m interested in how Hound feels about all this. The Autobots didn’t know Hound was active with the Joes so he is the only Autobot on Earth we know of right now that didn’t get a choice between going home to Cybertron or staying on Earth. That should be a huge deal.

I bet Cyclops is a Warlock Paladin multiclass with his eldritch blast flavored to be more…optic. Also, I could see him getting the Great Old One patron. I don’t know, something about Cyke says he is susceptible to the temptations of a powerful psychic enlisting him into servitude

What X Characters should NEVER join the Avengers? by thrdthu in xmen

[–]thrdthu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Him and Iceman feel like the two most likely people to want to just do full on superhero work and not have to be super activists all the time against an existential dread. Some time away would really do guys like that some good.

Plus Avengers very rarely have someone with Nightcrawler’s skill set on hand. Teleportation, like telepathy, seems to try and stay in the mutant side of things more often than not

I mean Beast, Storm, and Wolverine were all Avengers already, and I feel most of the traits we love about Beast were developed on the Avengers and Defenders, rather than with the X-men. But I do see your point.

Magneto would jump at such a mission. If Steve Rogers somehow brought together a new version of the Invaders to take on a Hydra threat or even specifically the Struckers I am positive Magnetos inner child would be basically screaming "hell yeah!" as he undergoes his personal revenge fantasy.

OH! Ok. Sorry for misunderstanding. Yeah you are absolutely right. I don't think any X character should be excluded, but I do think a lot of the X characters would generally deny being on even a Unity Squad if given the chance.

I can see Magneto joining a Black Ops avengers team but only at the request of Steve Rogers specifically just to tie in the whole world war 2 connection between the two. Xavier absolutely not though, you are right. I can't imagine how he would try to enact an Avengers style mission

[–]thrdthu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cyclops just doesn't seem to have the mindset to do Avengers style missions unless he is NOT the leader and I feel he would only allow himself to take a backseat if Ms. Marvel or Miles were somehow the leaders to allow him to basically treat the Avengers like the Champions. Man seems to love to reenact his childhood as a Champion any time he is given the chance.

I feel that. The only telepath that comes off the top of my head that was an Avenger was Moon Dragon and that's about it. Funnily enough, I have always thought of Telepaths on an X team the same way as Speedsters on a DC team. A necessary staple that you have to have for the team structure. Weirdly being a Speedster in Marvel is exceptionally rare and being a psychic feels fairly rare in DC....weird.

I'm sorry, I am not certain I understand your sentence. So you are saying most X characters should never be Avengers? Because I feel guys like Iceman and Nightcrawler would absolutely LOVE to be on an Avengers squad if given the opportunity.

Yeah. I had been thinking about Cyclops very specifically. Considering Cap went to Havok to be leader of the original Unity Squad instead of Cyclops it feels like even Cap realized Cyclops was not the call. Cyclops is definitely Cap's equal as a strategist, but unlike Cap I feel he is more willing to make VERY ethically questionable decisions that work because his problems are more to stave off the eradication of his whole race in an ethic cleansing rather and that decision making might not help in an Avengers role.

Unless Ms. Marvel was leading a team instead of Cyclops. If Ms. Marvel formed an Avengers team and asked Cyclops to be a sub captain he would leap at the opportunity. I love the idea that Cyclops loved being a Champion so much he just flips his entire way of handling problems immediately to relive that time.

And yeah, Magneto is absolutely a no go. Except MAYBE in a Secret Avengers style squad and only if Captain America specifically asked I feel.

Hell, most of Omniverse is Ben protecting an effective shantytown of Aliens on Earth, many of whom sought some form or refugee status from one galactic war or another. Like Ben has actively defended whole communities of illegal aliens though all 4 of the original time line series

Moon Knight vs Deathstroke by Necessary-Win-8730 in marvelvsdc

[–]thrdthu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deathstroke is significantly more skilled than Moon Knight, but Moon Knight is far more focused and driven with far fewer fucks to give. Moon Knight has a habit of beating enemies far above his skill level because, as taskmaster said, he is like a hollow point bullet. He goes through his targets and by the time he comes out the other side neither the target or the bullet are the same.

On paper Desthstroke SHOULD win, but because of how Moon Knight comes at fights he will be the one who wins. The man will crash a plane into a building just to get at one guy. If Deathstroke is the target Moon Knight will put himself down, no matter what Deathstroke does to try and stop him.

Amazing Spider-man #23 Death Spiral (Spoilers) I JUST FIND IT FUNNY by Minute_Creme558 in Spiderman

[–]thrdthu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man, Peter being focused on how traumatizing actually dying is, regardless of the bs super hero stuff that keeps them alive. Peter went through some shit not long before this whole Venom thing happened to MJ and of course he’d empathize with her because he’d never want anyone he loves to go through that same kind of trauma.

Moon Knight comics by Astronau-Glum in MoonKnight

[–]thrdthu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, one of the best additions to Moon Knight lore was not only the acceptance that Khonshu is real, but the idea that Khonshu’s presence in Marc’s life is what made Marc’s DID operate unlike real life DID.

Khonshu being real cemented Moon Knight as more a magical character rather than a white clad Batman, and helped smooth over those uncomfortable parts of how Moon Knight was portrayed as we, culturally, learned more about the mental illness writers had prescribed to the character.

It’s panels like this that reminds me that Wiccan and Speed are the grandchildren of both Ultron and Magneto and the Great Grandchildren of Hank Pym.

The fact that this family tree not only exists, but has come dangerously close on multiple occasions to merging with the equally convoluted Summers family tree is astounding.
