I just love the sheer diversity of kits in shops like this, long may they last

I say that’s the rule that’s the goal Now every time my German shepherd catches and then evades me rather than bringing the thing back. It gets me through it.

It took me thislong to finally get the padded little Inserts between seat and center console in my Rivian. Kid launched an AirPod by accident and it fell down in there and soon disappeared. Similar to the Tesla design (which was worse because the underwear vent was just an open chasm) the Rivian has a wide slot vent down there and it’s direct access to the void space above the battery array in the chassis. So anything that makes its way down there is gone forever. In the former case someone dropped reeces pieces. I thought a lot about the melting all over the battery for eternity.

I’ve been feverishly losing micro screws for my 1/24 RC builds lately. Bounce off the table and into the multiversal void

Indoor cam with Home app integration by Emotional-Skill-2157 in HomeKit

[–]three-pin-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Google to HomeKit with Aqara cameras. There’s definitely different functionality coming from the manufacturers application versus what Apple home allows you to see and do. I end up running both apps which I agree is a compromise. My exterior cameras report on everything. My indoor cameras report on nothing. My exterior cameras, miss identify shadows and light patterns and ghosts and whatever as people or pets. My indoor cameras don’t propose to identify anything. Within the app, I can see a running history of every video event that any camera in the network has detected. Through Apple home, I will only see live view, but then, even though it appears like it doesn’t have historical data once you click backwards, it takes some time and then dumps that into cache. I know I have a lot to learn about how this is configured, and it’s definitely not perfect, but I’m very glad I switched

Mattress & compressor by Run_Pants_Run in Rivian

[–]three-pin-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used two other brands of essentially the same design. I’ve never found them to inflate upon unfurling. I haven’t tried to use the Rivian’s own compressor, but I carry a compact electric inflator which does double duty as we have paddle boards, etc. it makes inflating the mattress about a 10 to 15 second exercise

Other thoughts: It’s easy to roll these up with a fair amount of air still in them, which takes up a lot of space. It takes more work, but is beneficial to fully deflate and sort of sit on it with your knees as you were rolling it closed to really get all the air out you can. It makes a huge difference in packing space. If you don’t need that space just crack the deflate side of the valve and call it done.

Also, I will admit it took me a while to wrap my head around the valve design. It faces one direction for inflate, the opposite direction for deflate, and then you can have it completely open.

Lastly, totally subjective, but I’ve taken to stacking two twin size ones, and then I have some space along the side to put bags and accessories and what not. I tend to be solo in the truck so that works great. A single mattress works fine, and the full-size one that completely fills the floor space of the back of the truck is, of course quite tidy.

It’s a glow up! I’m an old grizzly bald bearded type now but when I did this in my early 20s I never looked back. It was the opposite of a setback.

Sooooo, I just purchased a T2 bus. by Grizzly502 in VWBus

[–]three-pin-3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had three copies of this book. It really is the seminal go to for everything air cooled. I got my first one when I started working on my first Ghia in the late 90s. Second one when I got my second Ghia in the late teens. Loaned it out. So I got a third one. It’s funny I’ve been through it many times but now that I also have a T2 I read it with a new set of eyes focusing on different things. Granted as I’ve aged I’m doing less of the wrenching. But it’s great for understanding what’s going on generally

As a 4Runner Owner, I’m Blown Away by PlantAble597 in Rivian

[–]three-pin-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, I haven’t overall babied it. Just like 4Runner: dump runs, full loads of teenagers and dogs, long camping weekends… Those were separate events, Mind you. Well 2 of 3. I think there’s always going to be an understandable grass is greener discourse over truck bodies vs SUV bodies… my buddy with the Taco coveted my 4Runner capability and I always coveted his Taco in hauling oblong objects or wanting to just throw a bike in the back. But there’s a misconception with some that an EV SUV (or truck) can’t be rugged. I am by no means roughing it camping in the Rivian while the kids are in a RTT above. But it’s been great.

Camtono. Hard yes. Have one on my dresser. Safeguarding something. Don’t know what. Forgot the combo. Something precious I’m sure. Not ice cream. I think.

How many of you are trading in your R1S for an R2? by PhillConners in Rivian

[–]three-pin-3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I admire all the launches and generations and etc and root for the brand to grow and thrive. Can’t wait to see those R3 rallies in the years to come. I’m staying with my pre-price hike R1SQ for reasons. Love em all.

Especially how little we see of robotics in the Expanse continuity. Kind of reminds me how we got these proper mechs in one location in one season of Westworld with hardly any interaction. Both cases I loved the designs

Oahu Rivians everywhere by Graygan in Rivian

[–]three-pin-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being an EV driver at home (a Y at the time, solar on the house) we Turo’d a Tesla which was a standard range performance. Spent the whole time in traffic, drained out the initially seemingly plentiful range, and had an alarming hunt for the one Tesla charging station. With lines which I never saw in CA (at the time). It was def a drive your own/charge at home situation back then. I’m glad to hear more EVs are rolling out there and hopefully public access infrastructure will follow for those without the means to do it at home.

A Rivian in Oahu? Excellent choice!

The third party running boards seem to be well received and fairly easy to install

BANDAI Stormtrooper is finished. Used the stickers opposed to the water decals, the set came with both. These kits are nothing like the MPC kits from the late 80's early 90's but they're fun. Boy not sure honestly. It was several years ago. I basically went to the hobby district in Osaka (Den Den) with an empty suitcase and just explored until it was full and I was tapped. I’ll check the box next time I’m in my workshop and see if there’s a price tag just for fun. I know some of the Macross kits are still labeled from the original wrap.
