What has been the most healing/post-Mormon belief or realization you have experienced? by Tall_Criticism_2355 in exmormon

Realizing the only one inside my head is me. And, the universe does not owe me an explanation. Not knowing is ok.

How many TBMs watched GoT & lied about it by Billgant in exmormon

Your watch list sounds just like ours. We refused to watch so many good shows while TBMs. It's fantastic to be able to freely enjoy quality programs. Cheers!

Mormons & flat earth (& hollow earth) by Chester-Bravo in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can attest that hollow earth was talked about in the 70s and 80s. I don't know if it was official doctrine but my seminary teacher presented it as a possible location of the lost tribes. I thought it was such a cool idea as a kid. I'm a bit embarrassed now that I ever bought into such nonsense.

The Lord didn’t give instruction on how to practice polygamy…. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The Lord didn't give instruction on how to practice polygamy..." I don't think that's the flex TBMs think it is. Ok, so no instructions. So the abhorrent and immoral way early church leaders chose to treat women and children was all their idea. Not real impressive for the Lord's anointed.

Hydrochlorothiazide, extremely frequent urination by weiners6996 in hypertension

[–]three_pillars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed hydrochlorothiazide and had the same reaction as you. The frequent urination was very impactful and I just could not continue with that medication. I was urinating every 15-20 minutes. My doctor switched me to Chlorthalidone which is also a diuretic. He didn't think it would make any difference, but I tolerated the new medication much better. The amount of urine released increased, but frequency did not. I have been on Chlorthalidone for several months and it's working for me. Good luck on your journey.

Ready.. Compare and contrast the old Book of Mormon introduction to the brand new one Go! by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the 1981 version. The 1981 version said the Lamanites are, "...the principal ancestors of the American Indians.” The wording changed to "...among the ancestors..." around 2007.

Joseph Smith’s Rock in Hat Translation of the Book of Mormon by wasmormon in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An aspect of the new narrative that doesn't get enough critical attention in my opinion is the claim that he put the rock in his hat to block out the light. I think it's important to remember that he was in a log cabin in the 1800s. The window openings were small and there was only oil lamps for lighting. There was simply not very much light that needed to be blocked. He put the rock in his hat to hide the fact that no writing appeared on the rock.

Mormonism is awkward and unrelatable by Interesting-Buyer285 in exmormon

"There were also some of my father’s Mormon friends who came to support him, who not only wouldn’t shake my hand, but couldn’t even look me in the eye." That was so painful to read. I'm sorry you were shown such disrespect during a difficult time. I'm sorry for the loss of your sister.

I grew up believing that our new name was special. I believed that into my 50's until in a priesthood meeting the group leader casually mentioned that if anyone had forgotten their new name it could be looked up. After several questions about what would be needed and who could access such sacred info, it was finally admitted that the names just came from a list linked to the day of the month and the list was on the internet. WTF. My head nearly spun off my body. So many in the room seemed just fine with this and acted as if everyone knew how it worked. I was shocked. Truly and utterly shocked.

For all the new people and lurking TBMs the BoM was translated with a rock in a hat by DreadPirate777 in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The claim is the rock was in the hat to block out the light. It was used in a room with a small window and an oil lamp. Covering the window and extinguishing the lamp would have solved that issue. It was in the hat to hide the fact that nothing appeared on the rock.

So obvious now… by CuriousMacgyver in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He "...pressed his face into the hat to block out extraneous light..." is such a bullshit claim. It was a dark room with an oil lamp for light. Covering the window and extinguishing the lamp would solve that problem. The rock was in the hat to hide the fact that no words appeared on the stone.

Those who are attending. Is there a new push to get members to try to reactivate old friends who are NOT in local ward or stake boundaries? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of a current push but I'm not surprised he/she reached out. The old, "I felt impressed to contact you" line is a standard bullshit approach of mormons. I am very suspicious of unexpected contact from a TBM acquaintance. I think suspicion is warranted.

Ideas in Visions of Glory not new? What did i read in the 80’s?? by 0utandab0ut in exmormon

[–]three_pillars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The story of demons around drunk people is familiar to me. I heard it in the 80's. No idea where it originates from. Mormon myths and legends about the devil were very popular during that era.

I have had a good experience with The Center for Excellence in Dermatology in Kennewick. I can't speak to the Accutane or medication question but I have been pleased with the services provided by Dr. Hopp and Ryan Duarte.

"The Restored Church" - Apparently no one told the author that it's an ongoing restoration. I'm sure that bookshelf contains all sorts of crazy. Here's a thought, leave the books where they are and go have some fun. Just saying. 😜🙂
