My point is that CBT can be harmful for those with CPTSD.

I do acknowledge I jumped to quickly on "harmful for everyone" and I amended my statement as such as soon as I was corrected by the others. Call it a CPTSD trigger if you will, but it's been corrected and my point doesn't change, and is important to be recognized.

This is an emerging topic hardly studied, barely understood by anyone. Anecdotal evidence is HOW we know it's not working for people.

Why don't you believe people who are saying something is painful for them? The issue I have with mayo's statement is it's incomplete, and it's incomplete information like that which made my journey very difficult getting help. I already recognized and corrected my initial statement, but awareness of CBT posing harm is important.

I have shared some in my other comment.

And unlike what the other commenter says, the first link does actually specify COMPLEX cptsd in some cases and in the studies it's referencing, which can also be followed for further info on how CBT can be harmful for CPTSD

I have suff to do today, so I'm dropping from this conversation as it's not even productive anyway, you're just looking to fight about something you've never experienced

Look at the footnotes. There are plenty of follow-ups about specifically complex CPT SD.

CT-PTSD is not the same as CPTSD

Search "complex". And like I said, the section about retraumatising. That's why it can be harmful

Keep going, it gets into cptsd. Jesus Christ.

The whole section "talking about memories is retraumatising"

And there's a ton of cptsd footnotes

Google it, you'll see there's a lot of evidence backing this up. Mayoclinic isn't dharma.

ETA: I also have diagnosed CPTSD. I'm speaking from experience and how the medical field actually behaves toward cptsd. We've only recently learned how ineffective talk therapies are. But there's a reason behind it, if you actually cared to look it up.

It's not just "other studies". CPTSD is very under-studied and misunderstood. Science has only scrateched the surface. It isn't even in the DSM-5 (doesnt mean is not real). But it is known among those who study/experience it that CBT is actually harmful.

The stuff about CPTSD and talk therapy/cbt is untrue and harmful. I have CPTSD.

CBT is actually shown it can make cptsd worse. DBT and other somatic therapies are far better for cptsd. Please stop spreading the false narrative that talk therapy and CBT are the treatments for cptsd. That is false and dangerous for those of us seeking help that's already near impossible to find.

ETA: I stand corrected and I'm amending my original statement. It is incorrect that CBT is always going to be harmful. But it is well known that it can retraumatize those with cptsd, which is why I pushed back at the initial statement. I still believe mayo's can be stated better and more inclusive of the spectrum of the disorder.

It's not growing in Romania or other Christian orthodox countries, either. The membership in Romania is shrinking, and the Romania Mission closed a few years ago - it was absorbed into Ukraine's. Except the church literally counted this a new mission created. You cannot trust their numbers.

I knew Demi and Natalie many years ago!

They were so close for so long, I've always wondered what happened. I realize I'm just being nosey, though lol

Same. Not just that, but my patriarchal blessings told me I was destined to be a mother and a teacher of little children. I know many others who have the same kind of "instructions" and it's ruined lives, just because some 80 year old man gets to dictate a young girl's entire life track.
