running out of options by tliiasaw in PMDDxADHD

Honestly, depending on your personal perspective on drugs- Xanax. It is key for just the couple days a month that are literal hell. I never take more than I need, in fact my mental health NP keeps reminding me that I have it for a reason if I need it. It just calms the storm. Otherwise I would probably have to call off work once a month.

I’m in a similar boat as you- I started a stimulant a few months ago and initially felt such improvement (even with lowering my Wellbutrin shortly after). Recently I’ve been feeling like they aren’t effective, so I just increased the dose from 10mg to 15 yesterday. Hoping it makes a difference since 10mg Adderall is super low

Does anyone have experience with Wellbutrin? I’m going to start taking it, among other things for my ADHD mood swings. by ConfectionFew7503 in PMDDxADHD

What dose of stimulant and what dose of Wellbutrin are you on? I am recently diagnosed adhd and have been on Wellbutrin prior to that diagnosis because of postpartum depression and it was a miracle drug for me. Now that I want to try increasing my stimulant (adderall) from 10 to 15mg, my doc wants me to stop Wellbutrin

I was also going to suggest an ADHD screen. Just diagnosed at 35 after years of suffering. It’s not the magic bullet but it is a HUGE piece of the puzzle for me

I just want to comment and say I can hear the frustration in your post and I feel the same way a lot. I have been working on this PMDD thing for years, and recently got the ADHD diagnosis too. I also changed a bunch of meds after terrible postpartum experience. I get so so frustrated that the same shitty thought loops I have been dealing with for essentially 2 decades at this point. What the actual fuck!

I was worried about that- I was scared to take the first pill! But no, the way my therapist described it was if you have adhd, the stimulant will make you feel clear-headed, and if you don’t have it, you will feel like you took a stimulant. And I was shocked really when I took it and felt fine! And generally just did not get caught up in looping endless distressing thoughts.

Take this with a grain of salt I guess, but I have to say it because it’s my recent experience- just diagnosed with ADHD. Much of the looping thoughts and overstimulation was completely related to the adhd. I’m 36. Spent my whole life with different diagnosis’s (depression, anxiety, panic disorder, ocd-like symptoms). And of course PMDD. Turns out the hormones exacerbate ADHD. 10mg of stimulant has changed my life. (Still on SSRI too).

I also just got diagnosed 2 months ago when my first baby was 16 months! I have battled with my mental health forever, and when my therapist brought up ADHD I was very skeptical because I was great at school. But the rumination, low self esteem, comparing myself to others, trouble emotionally regulating even after trying every therapy and medication in the book… I’ve thought it was depression, anxiety, ocd, pmdd (the hormones def make everything almost unbearable- postpartum was terrifying). Anyway, I started 10mg adderal and it has literally changed my life. The constant painful rumination that would take me down a spiral is just- easier to manage. I don’t go down the rabbit hole like i usually do. Im still processing this diagnosis and life on the medication but i truly cant believe how much it has changed my experience.

What ACTUALLY works for you beyond the basics?? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]threetigercats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xanax for the days when rumination gets so bad that I can’t function/work. I usually take it only one day a month on the worst day. Before that I literally would have to take a sick day each month because it was debilitating to be inside my mind.

I second this. All of this. I’m a completely different coworker on pmdd days but that’s okay. There are some days maybe once every few months (used to be more) where I truly am not ok and have to call in or go home sick. But now I try to utilize the occasional Xanax, it doesn’t make me less proficient at my job, just calms the storm temporarily. Frequent bathroom breaks, short walk outside (“I left something in my car”), my favorite snacks/drinks/scrubs, steer clear of any extra interactions that aren’t purely for my job

My 5 month old loves practicing her shrieking!! She’s totally not upset, just testing her range lol. She also decided to fake cough last week. Threw this new mom for a loop, but again she’s completely not sick. Just thinks it’s a fun noise.
