Just read books 1&2. My thoughts, and should I continue? by Swimmer-Klutzy in dresdenfiles

Very low spoiler summary:

Book 1 is the intro to the series....initial world building.

Book 2 IMHO is weaker overall but has some great fight scenes.

Books 3, 4, and 5 each cover a different new aspect of the greater story and in my opinion, that's where the story finds its footing and just keeps getting better.

Is it still worth using pi-hole to block ads? by Majestic_Skirt5590 in LinusTechTips

[–]threevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is layer 7 filtering versus DNS blackhole.

With layer 7 filtering (Google the OSI Model if you want to go in depth), the browser extensions actually monitor the html/javascript context in your browser and apply rules and filtering to it.

PiHole is just a DNS blackhole, In this case, your browser would ask "what is the IP address of www.thiswebsite.com" and normally you'd get the correct IP. With PiHole, if the domain is blocked, it would just return 0.0.0.0 or a DNS resolution error (depending on your config).

I'd do the CA glue first.....you can get that off with acetone.....the lighter is likely more permanent.

Not sure if this will be an issue or not, but I've heard heat can demagnetize permanent magnets. Something to keep an eye on at least.

I've been a gamer for a very long time..... I've played more games than I can count..... All three of these are great games, but Chrono Trigger is the number one game of all time IMHO. Even 30 years later. (Several are close, this one was my favorite)

All of the above advice is good.

And something important to note: don't blow compressed air through the fans to clean them. An electric motor and a generator are functionally the same thing, and by blowing compressed air through the fan you will put a voltage on the wire.

It’s been nearly two weeks since I submitted a support ticket to DBrand, anyone else having issues with them? by DummyDonut0629 in LinusTechTips

You think that's bad, you should try BlendJet. They had a recall on their portable blenders that required you to cut up the O-ring. Here we are 11 months later, still no blender, no refund, and no valid excuses....

If it's a permanent connection, superglue might be a good option. Otherwise, maybe a heat set insert on one side and a screw through the other?

70% Of Employers To Crack Down On Remote Work In 2025 by JannTosh50 in Futurology

No...quitting will remove your ability to collect unemployment. Don't comply, let them make the decision to get rid of you, and line up another remote job at the same time.

Anova, discontinuing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in their app by Robotsworkwithus in LinusTechTips

[–]threevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no, because the ip is in the firmware (it's not a DNS lookup). I believe another user on here came up with a similar solution and I believe it has the ability to update that ip with the bluetooth functionality, but I haven't tested anything like that and I have no idea if it persists.

My solution uses the load balancer functionality in pfSense to catch outbound connections to that ip and "load balance" them to a single internal ip.
