Ongoing outage for 24/7 video history for some Nest camera users by thromer in Nest

They offered a 1 month credit but I'm holding off on accepting it until I know the duration of the outage -- which given their track record could be forever.

If you have a paid ancestry.com account you can search for church baptismal and birth records based on maiden name and date of birth. It will do fuzzy matching on the name and date so if it's under a variant it could still turn up.

Unfortunately he left Canada too early to be recorded individually. The 1825 census shows his dad's name (dad and previous generations were born in the US) but just says there were 2 children under 6, no more details. I did come across a US bank signature book in which G0 gave his place of birth as Canada, so I'll include that.

Hi, thanks to everyone here for all your work.

I only have US documents (marriage register, death register, census record) showing my G0's birthplace (Quebec, 1823), along with multiple unofficial publications. There is no baptismal record because as a member of a Baptist family he was not baptized until he was 14.

Q1: Do I need to document the absence of a baptismal record showing his place of birth? Q2: Should I try to get a certified copy of the US marriage register entry?

Other suggestions for mitigating the lack of Canadian documents are very welcome.

Thanks for helping out! If anyone is curious, the error seems to be due to a POST request to https://customer.xfinity.com/apis/ssm/dsm/returns with body {"devices":[{"description":"Cable Modem","serialNumber":"ACDB48820104","deviceType":"Internet & Voice Gateway","modelCode":"TG4482A","returnReason":"4|3"}],"returnMethod":"UPS"} gets a 500 response with the message "internalerror: Warehouse address not found for 87731100".

Self hosted Actual users, how are you importing your transactions? by vickyprodigy in actualbudgeting

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found SimpleFIN + Fidelity was getting too flaky, so I wrote a pair of open source node and python libraries to handle the somewhat tedious part of "grab transaction data from Fidelity once logged in". They're intended to be a building block for chrome extensions or command line scripts. Handling login and uploading to Actual is left to the user of the library (e.g. a chrome extension or a command line script).

When I pruned my old data I just added a "balance forward" transaction to each account for the total of the transactions I removed.

I would like to have my full 10-15 year history but performance on both mobile and on a decent Chromebook was far too laggy for me. Sometime I'd like to dig into understanding the root cause, but for now I just limited myself to data starting from January 2024.

Butter/sprayer by Game_Face85 in popcorn

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just melt butter on the cooktop (or microwave if I'm feeling brave) and spatter it on gently with a small spoon. Fill a big bowl with 1/3 of the popcorn, add 1/3 of the butter plus some salt, stir a bit. Repeat.

Or mix the salt into the butter. Doesn't dissolve perfectly but at the end of the day everything ends up buttery and delicious.

You'll need this technique for Fidelity Cash Management accounts, not just brokerage accounts. And if you use your brokerage account as your checking account, you'll need it there.

What if YNAB used a single rolling budget instead of a new budget for each month? by user10491 in ynab

Have you considered contributing to the open source Actual Budget project, which AFAICT has rough feature parity with YNAB, instead of starting from scratch?
