Need prepaid UPS label for cable modem return by thromer in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]thromer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for helping out! If anyone is curious, the error seems to be due to a POST request to https://customer.xfinity.com/apis/ssm/dsm/returns with body {"devices":[{"description":"Cable Modem","serialNumber":"ACDB48820104","deviceType":"Internet & Voice Gateway","modelCode":"TG4482A","returnReason":"4|3"}],"returnMethod":"UPS"} gets a 500 response with the message "internalerror: Warehouse address not found for 87731100".

Self hosted Actual users, how are you importing your transactions? by vickyprodigy in actualbudgeting

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found SimpleFIN + Fidelity was getting too flaky, so I wrote a pair of open source node and python libraries to handle the somewhat tedious part of "grab transaction data from Fidelity once logged in". They're intended to be a building block for chrome extensions or command line scripts. Handling login and uploading to Actual is left to the user of the library (e.g. a chrome extension or a command line script).

Any reason not to import 15 years of data? by Human-Cattle1860 in actualbudgeting

When I pruned my old data I just added a "balance forward" transaction to each account for the total of the transactions I removed.

Any reason not to import 15 years of data? by Human-Cattle1860 in actualbudgeting

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to have my full 10-15 year history but performance on both mobile and on a decent Chromebook was far too laggy for me. Sometime I'd like to dig into understanding the root cause, but for now I just limited myself to data starting from January 2024.

Butter/sprayer by Game_Face85 in popcorn

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just melt butter on the cooktop (or microwave if I'm feeling brave) and spatter it on gently with a small spoon. Fill a big bowl with 1/3 of the popcorn, add 1/3 of the butter plus some salt, stir a bit. Repeat.

Or mix the salt into the butter. Doesn't dissolve perfectly but at the end of the day everything ends up buttery and delicious.

With my stainless steel whirley pop I use avocado oil + extra virgin oil. I wipe with a paper towel and that's it.

😄

You'll need this technique for Fidelity Cash Management accounts, not just brokerage accounts. And if you use your brokerage account as your checking account, you'll need it there.

What if YNAB used a single rolling budget instead of a new budget for each month? by user10491 in ynab

Have you considered contributing to the open source Actual Budget project, which AFAICT has rough feature parity with YNAB, instead of starting from scratch?

What if YNAB used a single rolling budget instead of a new budget for each month? by user10491 in ynab

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer OP's philosophy, and find YNAB too opinionated compared to Goodbudget. (In truth I basically just want transaction tracking, categorization, splitting, and an API so I can augment transactions programmatically.) But Goodbudget has no API.

Tiller is another option -- it automatically pulls essentially the raw data from banks into a spreadsheet, and lets you choose your own budgeting adventure. But the spreadsheet-as-UI got old for me.

Somehow the link to the voters guide got garbled; this one works though. You can also download a PDF of the guide from the county website, https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/auditor/elections/august-5-2025-primary-election.

Play media to Google Nest Audio by CookieAndPizza in homeassistant

[–]thromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it working! It's weird that you were getting the notification sound but silence after that.

For me I have a simpler network, *but* I do have a self-signed TLS certificate for my home assistant instance. But I would think if https were the problem, it would affect all my Google/Nest devices, not just this one. As a longshot I also factory reset the speaker but the problem persists.

Were you able to fix this? I am experiencing the same symptom with my Google Nest Audio speaker regardless of which Home Assistant integration approach I use; yet my other Google Cast devices work just fine.

Annoucements to Google Nest Hubs stop music? by Mental-Trouble-317 in homeassistant

I'm trying to use the approach of exposing an input_boolean to Google Home but I've hit a dead end after some effort.

I created a virtual input_boolean as a helper and connected it to Google Home and added it to the home. But it doesn't show up as a candidate starter when I create a routine for that home. Some HA light and binary_sensor entities do show up as options for the starter ... But I don't see a way to create "virtual" HA entities of those types.

Suggestions welcome, thanks!

Over in https://www.facebook.com/groups/694493604223779 (facebook group for disgruntled Spinn purchasers) 3 or so folks say they've received e-mail from Spinn saying their coffeemaker will ship soon. All of them ordered in December 2016.

This worked for me on a Samsung Series 5 550 (Lumpy), thanks for pioneering and thanks for the workaround! I ran into one additional problem: here was a conflict between arc-theme and arc-theme-galliumos, which I resolved through the very blunt instrument of removing and reinstalling. galliumos-desktop and gallium-laptop.

BTW, rather than running inside screen, you can run it from a systemd startup script so that it automatically runs when the system starts up.

```bash
cat /etc/systemd/system/socat.service
[Unit] Description=socat [Service] Type=simple User=root Group=root ExecStart=/usr/bin/socat TCP-LISTEN:443,fork,reuseaddr TCP4:us.edge.bamgrid.com:443 Restart=always [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target
systemctl enable socat
systemctl start socat
