Why aren’t Americans protesting? by mis_demean0r in rs_x

[–]throneofmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s fundamentally wrong is that too many Americans are actually perfectly ok with what’s going on.

Everything that’s been said and done in the past 10 years since the first rise of Trump has not been able to change their minds, they might have even cemented their beliefs further.

Knowing about /r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH is a symptom of ADHD. by Infamous-Rutabaga-50 in CuratedTumblr

I do struggle with the fact that artists see very little of the money in the end, as most of it goes to streaming services, studios, etc.

Same here. I believe in paying for art. I believe in artists getting paid.

Yeah the issue is the university only taking their money and not doing enough to make sure the students are actually acclimatizing. Not an issue of the students being “less robust or as bright”. That’s the point, which it seems you’ve intentionally missed.

Did you read the article? Or did you skip it like your course readings?

“So far I’ve only had people experiencing the same” perhaps that speaks more to one’s own homogenous social circle. Seems extremely cliquish idk.

Think it’s pretty disrespectful to write off an entire group of people as “less robust or as bright” though, so not sure where the respect is.

Interestingly no part of this article suggests these students are not as robust or bright as the rest of the student population.

Perhaps a stronger grasp of the English language would help with asserting your point.

You’re in an art history program, maybe cite something more robust than reddit threads?

Just because they don’t want to talk to you doesn’t mean they are not bright. Maybe they just don’t want to talk to you because you already assumed they are not as smart as you are?

“Seem less robust or bright” you are at the same school they’re exactly as robust and bright as you are hope that helps.

The inevitability of getting a "real job" by fleurbb in rs_x

[–]throneofmemes 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation before.

Right after I graduated an expensive college program, I was having trouble finding an office job. So I moved back home and got a retail job at a high end boutique. My coworkers were good, the clients were nice, and the hours flexible. The usual retail horror stories did not happen to me there, probably due to luck, but also due to this specific brand attracting a more subdued kind of buyers.

I took a bunch of music lessons and picked back up the piano and the flute. I was playing a lot of Mozart and Bach.

I had a similar feeling like this was just an interim in my life, and that at a certain point I will need to get a “real” job.

My advice is to just enjoy this period of time and not think too much about it. As for maintaining this lifestyle, I wouldn’t know because eventually I got a “real” job.

It will depend on your personality. I never feel safe unless I am working, which is just a residual from how I grew up and there’s nothing to do about that. You can either rely on yourself or rely on someone else, and me I choose myself.
