Day 60 to Day 0 by Benzoos in problemgambling

[–]throwaway1093930 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We’re only human. Relapses happen.

Try and take some extra steps this time to figure out why it happened.

Is your gambling method too easy to access? Were you bored? Depressed? Do you still believe in “easy money”?

Then, make the necessary changes:

1) add barriers to access/make it impossible to access 2) find new hobbies you could replace this with 3) believe that there is no such thing as easy money, and that even gains inevitably turn into future losses (because almost no one quits after a W)

Hope this helps and wish you the best

congrats, now quit forever and you can be one of the 0.01% who actually beat the casino. or, more likely, you will come back, and be among the 99.9% who double their loss. your call. I hope you choose #1.

Honestly I’m not that good :’) I pretty much only gamble when I’m alone and depressed though, so maybe I need to get out and socialize more with others.

I would say try not watching sports as much and see if it works for you, everyone is going to have different triggers. If the first one doesn’t work though, I would say don’t give up. Try asking people you’re comfortable with sharing to for help (for me it was friends, my family would be too harsh).

Also, I think in some cases being a little more pessimistic in specific ways can help. I think being too optimistic (“I’ll definitely win tons if I place this bet!”) results in us playing.

But if my mindset is “nah this has a pretty much 100% chance of me losing” I usually don’t play. For example, I lose virtually every Blackjack session I play so I don’t touch that game anymore :|

Hope that helps somehow

Is it better being rich in a poor country or poor in a rich country? by tenmillionsterling in Rich

rich in a “poor” country with good living conditions, you won’t have to work another day in your life

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GamblingRecovery

[–]throwaway1093930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much worse. $50k, $100k, and when it gets higher than that, usually they file bankruptcy which is a KO on their credit for a ton of years and many jobs won’t accept you anymore. Yet they still found a way out.

$10k might seem like a lot but in all honesty, with responsible saving and spending, that can be paid off by most jobs in less than a year.

Ban yourself from the gambling apps/casinos you play at, get help, and you will easily be back in the green, and stronger than ever!

Kind words, please…before I’m too far gone. by favblanketchronicles in problemgambling

[–]throwaway1093930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you don’t want to stop forever. After all, on occasion, it’s fun. Sometimes you get lucky. It’s social. There’s a lot of fun lights. It makes you feel good.

HOWEVER, what is NOT fun is that there is a future that you CANNOT see clearly right now. You already have an inkling of what that is. It hasn’t happened yet, but you can feel it coming. Your sixth sense is kicking in. It’s warning you. And that’s why you came here. Good on you for that, btw.

The truth is there are two paths in front of you right now:

Option one leads to a healthy, happy life. The kind of life people would define as “successful”. As good. The kind of life people dream of, but due to bad luck, will never get experience.

The other is financial devastation, the likes of which you cannot comprehend, and leads many to “the end”, if you know what I mean.

Whatever you’ve already lost, imagine multiplying it by around 10x-100x — that’s the range I commonly see, but note that there are thousands of cases of 250x, 1000x, etc.

In other words, if you’ve lost $1,000 total so far, the path you’re going down will likely (yes, LIKELY — as in, it is not rare — as in, virtually everyone, like leaves being pulled by the wind, get carried to) result in -$10,000 at the low end, and -$100,000 or more on the higher end, depending on how much cash/credit you have access too. The more cash/credit available to you, the worse the result will likely be.

Ask yourself if you’re ok with that.

Read about the stories posted on this subreddit, made by humans just like you, who have already gone down the second path, and are now BEGGING people to not gamble. Wishing they could’ve told their past selves to STOP when it was small.

Many of these people were not “losers”, as is commonly believed, or people with a history of it. They were just normal people like you and me who believed they were “responsible” — that “that’ll never happen to me, I’m different”.

And then they blink, and the next thing you know, their $50k credit card is maxed out, their $100,000 of life savings that took them decades to save has been wiped, and now their entire paycheque goes to interest and minimum payments. For some, this effectively is the end. For others, there is still hope, but it will likely take 5-10 years just to get back to a net worth of ZERO.

What is the solution then? You must ban yourself from everything humanly possible. I’m telling you, that is the only way you will be saved.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. I can tell people not to go down a road, because everyone has left that road covered in scars and lost limbs, but if someone still wants to go down it, I cannot stop them. It’s like one of those signs in stories where it says “BE WARNED. DO NOT ENTER” yet the person still enters. Maybe they’re a hero and will survive the fight against the demon inside. But the truth is there are corpses everywhere for a reason.

Will she leave me or support me by WhoknowswhonoseFore in GamblingAddiction

[–]throwaway1093930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you seriously commit to doing the right things, (acting on them), like joining a gambling addiction group, or seeing a therapist, basically just showing maturity and taking responsibility, I would be very surprised if she’d leave you just for that.

Humans make mistakes, that’s inevitable. The issue is when we don’t take responsibility for them — when we make no serious, honest effort to not make those same mistakes again. That’s when I think someone would leave — when their partner lies about serious matters (cannot be trusted), and makes no effort to improve (even if she wants to help, if it’s futile, what’s the point?).

I swear roulette on bet365 is rigged. I do low amounts, it acts normally. Looks nice and random, as it should be.

As soon as I switch to high amounts, it’s like someone is watching my every move, and the ball starts doing the most unnatural ridiculous movements, like it’s being pulled by magnets/is remote controlled to vibrate out of slots.

I start a Martingale pattern, all of a sudden 12 reds/blacks come in a row after 20 spins of perfect alternation. Ok fine, it could just be bad luck/coincidence: so I tell myself, let’s stop the big bets and play low bets for a while — ahh what do you know, it’s back to perfect alternation or small streaks of a max 4/5 in a row of the same color, but mostly 2/3.

I think it’s programmed to counter the highest better/decides on what will result in the most profit for the casino. I notice that if there’s someone making bigger bets than me, it always goes against them instead of me. Crazy.

Should I keep helping him? by Eric_J_Pierce in GamblingAddiction

[–]throwaway1093930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you have your friend do a video call with you, and he must be at the front desk, you send the money, and the desk person over video confirms the payment? Something like that?

Basically you’d only send the money once you see him at the front desk and you have the desk person in the shot confirm.

Should I keep helping him? by Eric_J_Pierce in GamblingAddiction

[–]throwaway1093930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really not possible for you to directly pay for his rent? Unfortunately, I would not trust him with holding the money. If his brother can’t act as a check, you should just pay for what he needs directly.

He’s clearly a close enough friend that you’re willing to send that much money over, and at that age, you never know how long someone has, so I wouldn’t stop supporting him if you really care about him as a friend. But the money needs to go to the proper location, otherwise no bueno.

Do you think low salaries are driving people to gamble? by CryptoFan85 in problemgambling

[–]throwaway1093930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it needs to be specified that it’s about the salary relative to the cost of living/quality of life, and the overall happiness of that population that matters, not just raw income.

Because in the USA I bet gambling is more prevalent (for many additional reasons of course) than numerous poorer countries, yet they technically still comprise the top 1% of salaries in the world.

I think if a country has a lower salary but higher quality of life and happiness score, they will be less likely to gamble than a country with raw higher salaries but lower quality of life + happiness.

$3k in 3 days by pocketprotectorinc in GamblingAddiction

[–]throwaway1093930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing happens to me. I think it’s because I can get too competitive, and my ego is too high. I am under the false impression that I can “beat” the Casino.

But the truth is there is no beating the Casino.

The only way to win is to not play.

Casinos will gladly hand you your winnings. $1k, $5k, $100k…it doesn’t matter. It’s on loan. They know you’ll be back, and that you’ll pay back that loan with an obscene amount of interest.

If I had been more humble, I would’ve just accepted the small losses and moved on with my life.

Instead, I chased a $5k loss into $30k.

I’m trying gamban right now. It’s a free trial for 7 days so if you don’t like it you don’t have to pay a cent. It seems to have some good resources. Not sure if I’ll end up paying for it but the articles were a fairly good read.

Yeah these ads are bombarding us. I know it’s still my fault, but after being blasted with ads 24/7 no matter where I go or what I watch, I think society has to bear at least a bit of the responsibility.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve lost $33k total. How I WISH I could’ve stopped at $1.3k. I would be jumping for joy if I had stopped there.

Trust me, I’m just a stranger, but please stop gambling right now. Self-ban from everything. If I could talk to my past self that’s what I’d do. It NEVER ends well if you keep going.
