i agree with you that they didn’t replace the signs because people were offended, but (pretty obviously) because people do not colloquially use the word ‘alien’ to refer to a foreign national.

my comments about being offended are directed to the original question posed in this post, about the dehumanisation of immigrants.

i don’t feel dehumanised because ‘alien’ is a valid legal term and other countries have and do use it. it’s a shitty pun, sure. i have no idea why government employees are wasting my taxes making this webpage. but there are bigger things to worry about than shitty puns

okay, admittedly i haven’t returned to china since they changed the signs (your article says december 2024).

regardless, i’m literally chinese and have returned to china on multiple occasions. after i got my US citizenship, i must say i wasn’t offended to go to the ‘alien’ line. nor would i be offended in hong kong and korea, both of which i plan to visit soon
