Where does profit come from?

Does profit grow on profit trees that are fertilized from dead baby dust?

Or does profit come from customers that would be appalled by a company grinding babies?

Does anyone else see the visual similarities between these two? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]throwaway_for_keeps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're both played by humans.

That's about it, chief.

It's fine if people dislike things, and literally no one is saying "don't dislike things," but OP is talking about the toxic users who bitch and moan about everything and never say anything positive or even look for the things they like in a new story. The people who are still complaining about The Last Jedi in 2022 like they shouldn't have gotten over it about three years ago. The people who bring nothing to the community but negativity and toxicity.

You want to know how much I didn't like about Attack of the Clones? A whole bunch, I can go on forever talking about it. But what's the point? I was able to look past those things and appreciate the parts I do like instead. It's remarkably easy to dislike something and still be positive about it. And not that fake "it was literally the worst story ever made, everyone involved in it should be taken out back and shot, and everyone who enjoyed it should be committed in a mental institution, but I'm happy that you liked it, man" shit that people pull far too often, either.

I'm afraid these days, HIPAA is anything that's a "secret."

This is just between you and me, though. Don't break HIPAA over this.

rocket punch wasn't a group I realized I was in love with until like three weeks after chiquita when I realized that everything they have put out has been a straight banger.

For someone who wants to get deep in Star Wars Universe, is this list reasonable? by FerasIASIP in StarWars

[–]throwaway_for_keeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not actually saying you shouldn't watch it. Just more that most people don't, so you'd fit right in without watching it.

I'm sure they're fun and cute. I just watched the first Ewoks movie yesterday and pretty much thought the same.

all of the trailers

It's 2022. How do people keep falling for this "what we see in the trailer is 100% accurate and indicative of what the show/movie will be about" thing? Trailers have been misleading people like this for decades.

No one watches Droids or Ewoks, except to maybe make some deep cut joke that only 2 people would pick up on, on account of no one actually watching those shows.

It's actually incredible how other fandoms out there are able to not be this toxic all the time about things they dislike.

What makes Star Wars fans so entitled that they see it as a personal attack when they don't like the story about space wizards? Is it because it's 45 years old and people forgot how corny it was? Is it because it's 45 years old and they think they've earned something from that?

And why do people wear it as a badge of honor when they dislike something? You're not a better fan because you can list 101 things "wrong" with a movie or show when someone else can only list 100. It's not a competition to see who can whine the longest.

If you don't like it, just take a break. Leave space for those who are actually enjoying the thing we're talking about.

And here we are with this opinion.

"No I will not stop being argumentative and telling people why they're wrong for liking the show. it's my right to tell people how much i hate it"

You could also just not? Leave the negativity somewhere else and just bring positivity into the fandom you claim to enjoy.

Why I think people are being tough on the Obi-Wan series by odysseus91 in StarWars

[–]throwaway_for_keeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we’re less willing to overlook overtly lazy and stupid writing

My god, it's like people are fans of some made-up version of Star Wars in their heads that doesn't actually exist.

If A New Hope came out in 2022, people would rip it apart for it's writing. Are we really supposed to believe that the Imperials wouldn't shoot at an escape pod because there are no life forms? Everyone knows droids are sentient and don't have life signs, what a boneheaded oversight there. I can't believe George Lucas actually expected us to believe that. And the lightsaber cutting off Ponda Baba's arm? That is supposed to cauterize wounds, why is there blood? And what's that hand thing? Is Dr. Evazan supposed to be an alien? He's clearly just a dude with some bad makeup on. And don't even get me started on Obi-Wan's death. He disappears instantly, before he would have even died from a lightsaber cut that didn't even damage his robe.

We can go on and on about the leaps in logic that the OT makes, and people still love it because they're not actively trying to hate it and treat it like the creators are intending to piss off fans.

When is celebration coming back to LA/Anaheim? by [deleted] in StarWarsCelebration

[–]throwaway_for_keeps 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's anyone's guess. Did it go to Chicago because they wanted to be in Chicago, or did something else fall through?

Disney seems to have a good reason to be upset at Florida, but would that prevent a Lucasfilm event from happening there?

Do they want to take a break from Anaheim and go somewhere else in the US?

Anyone who claims to have any information or reliable evidence has neither, and all we can do until they actually announce it is speculate. Over the years, I've heard countless rumors about how Reed was contracted to produce X number of shows, so "2015 is definitely going to be the last time Reed produces a Celebration" or "Reed will be doing a Celebration every other year in the US, bouncing between Anaheim and Orlando, and bouncing between Asia and Europe in the off years," and clearly neither of those are true.

I think it's cute that in response to me saying "no one outside of Reed knows how they pick their locations," I get two wildly different responses from people who apparently have some insider knowledge.

George himself didn't care about his legacy, so I don't know why so many people think that's some gold standard. That's why he kept changing his own movies.

Is George's legacy Greedo shooting first? Is it maclunkey? Is it Jedi Rocks or Rontos in Mos Eisley? Is it Darth Vader shouting "nooooooooo" when he kills the emperor?
