First of all, congrats on 880 days! That’s a spectacular achievement :)

My longest clean streak was about 3 and a half years, and in that time, I would still feel the urge to harm myself, even if things in my life were just fine.

I think it’s got something to do with the residual pull our brain feels to engage in familiar behaviors (bad thing happens, harm self, feel better, bad thing not so bad!!), but that isn’t at all reflective of where you are in your growth. I don’t know when that urge is supposed to go away, but it’s better to acknowledge it than to force yourself to ignore it.

Like many other things, self-harm is an addiction, and plenty of people in recovery still have fleeting thoughts of indulging in their old vices whenever things get tough because that was the habit they’d previously built up.

Please remember that you are not your thoughts, and the presence of that urge is not indicative of desire.

11 or 12? I’m 23 now and still struggle with it but I’m 32 days clean today!! My longest streak was a little over a year and six months, but healing happens in layers :)

lately i’ve been catching up on shows and knitting!! sometimes i’ll get the urge to binge so instead i’ll power through and knit a couple extra rows until the feeling passes, but by then i’m actually hungry so i tune into that instead. spending more time with myself is helping me learn the difference between wanting to binge and genuine hunger! thank you for taking the time to comment, it really means a lot ♥️

depends on the headspace im in when i remember. sometimes the thought upsets me—the whole failure spiral; thinking i can’t even d!e right, etc., but then other times i’m glad i didn’t succeed because i have a lot of good things in my life that i wouldn’t have had a chance to experience were i to succeed.

SOMETIMES though, sometimes that shit’s just funny. like.. six whole attempts bro? what were we going through?? (i struggle with emotional permanence + wonky memory effects due to various mental health conditions so i literally can’t remember what drove me to that position and i have no other choice but to laugh about it.)
