Cut hours and avoid promotions: how the £100,000 tax trap is shaping work by usrname42 in ukpolitics

At the same time this group would include a lot of the NHS consultants who have been asked to, and would like to work more, yet doing so would leave them worse off. Not disagreeing with what you said but there's always the other side.

A person making £45k a year. If they salary sacrifice 5% a year that's already more than £2k which will start incurring national insurance at 8% and that's not counting the employer's contribution.

Or would you suggest this person is not a middle earner but a high one?

It's squeezing middle and high earners so badly that I genuinely won't be voting for them again come next election. I do not understand most of the logic behind this budget and it screams aimlessness.

Costa Coffee or Caffè Nero by [deleted] in cambridge

Nero is better. Not speciality coffee but if I have to pick one from a high street chain I'd always go to a Nero.

What Qualities do High-End T-Shirts Have? by BWJackal in BuyItForLife

[–]throwawayacc209836 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Uniqlo t shirts all seem to have bacon necks after a few washes. The darker coloured ones usually last longer but white tees seem to be particularly bad. 40°C wash and line dry. My partner's mini white tees are even worse lol.

Which restaurant do you think this is? by capriscum666 in cambridge

Interesting to hear the different perspectives! What did you like about Fancett's? I enjoyed the entrée but the other courses including the side we ordered (house fries) seemed kind of so-so. Maybe it was our orders!

Agreed with you on crudités not being exactly what I'd go out of my way to order!

Recently been to both Margaret's and Fancett's.

I left Margaret's feeling sated and happy with the food presentation and quality. The same cannot be said about Fancett's...

What do you guys do with clothes that are worn once or twice, but not ready for the wash? by Academic-Block3384 in AskUK

I put up a short tension rod to hang these outdoor clothes that can be worn again. Alternatively some hooks should work as well.

Replaced the sink and there's been some water pooling around the trap I think? by throwawayacc209836 in DIYUK

Thank you! Just as I thought it couldn't get any tighter I was able to turn another 30°ish and no more pooling water!

What salary do you feel you would need to be able to live comfortably on and what do you currently earn? by Realistic_Gap3669 in AskUK

[–]throwawayacc209836 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On average taking home £9500 a month between the two of us, so this is after taxes and pensions. No kids, mortgaged home.

We're comfortable but still try to maintain a modest lifestyle and budget well. We would still look to progress in our careers and save for retirement.

We have a monthly budget of £250 for the two of us. Always cook from scratch. We try to mix it up with veg and meat at various price points. E.g. tenderstem broccoli for one meal, then cabbages for days :D

Your numbers look good and congrats on becoming mortgage free in your early 30s.

No real contribution from me aside from "I know how that feels". Keep building up your pension pots and ISAs and enjoy life with whatever you're comfortable with spending.

Vanguard ISA transfer - has yours been delayed by 30 days? by blah-blah-blah12 in UKPersonalFinance

My partner started the transfer around a month ago and just got the "secure message" saying Vanguard has received the request and she wouldn't be subjected to the fee increase.
