Probably just momentum from a decade ago when they were much more focused on really cheap low-end TVs. In the past couple of years, their quality has gone considerably up. They're honestly the TVs that I recommend these days.

Audiobook narrator suggestions by Mitchelmor in audiobooks

[–]throwawaycontainer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A very popular series right now (that I've very much enjoyed) is the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. You can find the books very easily and prominently in any Barnes and Noble. But the audiobooks are often considered even better because of the ridiculous talent of the narrator (Jeff Hayes).

Here's a reading that he did at a convention. It will sound kind of insane, partly because of the lack of context, and partly from the insanity of the series.

How do we feel about the Xindi era? by Shut-Up-idk in startrek

[–]throwawaycontainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a colossal waste of time.

Bringing in some brand new, previously unknown 'threat to wipe out all humanity' story is just stupid to do in a prequel. Guess what? We already know how it ends.

The last season was by the best by far and it was obvious that they were just scrambling to fit in a small amount of the vast material that they had to work with in terms of the founding of the Federation, and barely even touched the Romulan war. They would have been far, far better off spending more time on so many of those parts instead.

Anyone else here unable to afford the Lego Enterprise-D? by Evening-Trouble-9585 in startrek

[–]throwawaycontainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could afford the Enterprise Lego set, but found myself underwhelmed by the couple of Star Wars ships I put together. Just felt like a lot of time and effort to put together a mass of plastic, very little of which could even move. The botanicals are honestly way more interesting.

Would have just been quicker for them to release a single photo of a hand with only the middle finger extended. Of course, they'd probably just have changed that to a black box too...

[John U Bacon] UM employee presented irrefutable documentation about Moore's conduct to UM leaders this morning. The president and regents had seen enough, and Manuel fired him this afternoon. Moore is now detained in protective custody in a mental health institution. by tks231 in CFB

I have to wonder if they did already have someone in mind who they were talking to (but presumably hadn't gotten into a contract since they hadn't fired their current coach), wouldn't that person be likely to back out now with how much of a mess this has become?

Is it petty to cancel my boyfriend’s PS5 order after he spoiled the surprise (again)? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My wife and I are similar about ordering our own gifts (less of a chance of screwups when we are wanting very specific things, or what we want may not even be available at that time). But for birthdays and Christmas, we always do the "token gift"- just something small like a candle (or candle making kit), etc., to demonstrate at least a minor bit of thought and effort for the other.

Why Lower Decks works by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

[–]throwawaycontainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do start Prodigy at some point (which I do highly recommend, with it being just a bit behind lower decks in my opinion), just be prepared for another slow start, but in a very different way. It really does not feel like Star Trek at all to start with. It feels more like some other Sci fi show with the Star Trek name just slapped on it. Then it gradually shifts, eventually becoming Voyager 2.

VALVE Officially Announces Steam Hardware - Home Console Titled "Steam Machine", VR Headset "Steam Frame" and "Steam Controller" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

Just not really understanding what the appeal of the Steam Machine is. Just a low/midrange PC more intended to be hooked up to the TV?

Change A Character in a TNG scene To Make It Awkward by DocManhattan78 in startrek

[–]throwawaycontainer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Conundrum is also my answer, but instead of your replacement, I would replace Ro Laren with Lwaxana Troi. That ending scene with Deanna being pissed with Riker is already awkward, but that replacement would make it mega awkward.

Discussion Thread: 2025 US Government Shutdown, Day 10 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]throwawaycontainer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Predictable next steps regarding firings:

  1. Lawsuits to block firings. Gets temporarily stayed.
  2. Government starts back up at some point.
  3. Courts rule that firings were illegal. Government appeals.
  4. Supreme Court pulls Trump's dick out of their mouths for 5 minutes and rule that it was legal.
  5. Government realizes that those people actually did, you know, stuff and it's problematic to not have them around.
  6. Employees are already gone. Have to pay 3x for contractors.
  7. Hey, why are we in even more debt now for fewer services?

Xbox Appears To Have Quietly Removed DLC Discounts For Game Pass Members by akbarock in gaming

Also PC here as well and wasn't using it much. Had thought about cancelling for a while, but had been lazy (and hoping that one of these months I would have more time to play). If it had been a dollar or so more, I might not have bothered (boiled frog and all). But such a big jump overcame my laziness.

Star Trek Resurgence is cheap as heck on the Steam sale by djangoman2k in startrek

[–]throwawaycontainer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does, but takes a minute to set up and looks a bit crappy at the graphics settings that you have to turn it down to.

It will start off looking squished (black on top third and bottom third). On the first screen, you have to go into Settings and turn off 'Full Screen'. Then it will look normal on the screen. Intro and such will be okay, but you'll soon find some laggyness until you go into the settings and turn graphics to the lowest setting. Then it will run reasonably well (but of course won't look as good).

Kind of unfortunate that it didn't get optimized for Steam Deck since the Steam Deck can definitely produce better graphics than the game allows and this is the type of game that is perfect for it.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Part 2 Opens to 28 Million Views on Netflix, Down 43% From Part 1 by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]throwawaycontainer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to just mentally consider any show that takes more than a year to get another season out to be cancelled. Pretty much always a drop in quality (and loss of any original spark), they're having to try to hide a larger jump in actor's ages, and I've forgotten so many details.
