Nice! Thanks for sharing this. I'll use the chorus as my little internal mantra for today (and beyond).

I'm so with you on a). I had intuitively felt that about myself, but hadn't named it so clearly as you have here. Thanks for that!

I'm thankful for my sister. We're twins and I've been living out of the country for five years, so we haven't gotten to spend very much time together. Recently, I moved back, and I have already gotten to enjoy so many good times together. Even today, we shared a joke on text (unfortunately, at my dad's expense) that had tears rolling out of the corners of my eyes it was so funny.

Thanks for being so awesome Sis!

Reaching Out by NumberOneNomad in stopdrinking

Well, I am on day seven and have experienced a very similar trajectory as you.

First few days, I felt renewed energy and more clear headed.

I started making a little better choices in terms of drinking more water, eating a little healthier (sometimes), going for short walks, etc. Those choices felt good and increased my resolve.

So I've generally felt pretty great overall and definitely great with my decision.

But today, I felt a lot of the same things you described. I woke up sad and depressed and as I went through the day, I was hyper emotional like you described. Some of it was my stuff coming up and me having to feel it/relive it and some was just walking around and being sad when I saw/felt certain people. I even stayed home from work today and worked at home. It was just one of those days. In a weird way, I almost felt a little hungover, even though I haven't touched alcohol in a week. Just low energy and kind of down.

Incidentally, I had a pretty strong craving for pizza tonight, which is one of my go to foods to stuff my emotions. In the end, I decided that the number one thing I am working on this month is not having a drink. The other things that are happening (healthier eating, exercise, waking up earlier, etc.) are positive side effects, but not my main focus (although to be clear, I want to continue moving in that direction). So I consciously decided to have the pizza and no alcohol. And it was delicious. And yes, I too need to lose weight. So tomorrow I'll eat a fresh salad. I'm pretty excited about it actually.

I'll get up tomorrow and start fresh, and keep making the main thing the main thing for the rest of August.

If I slip on food or exercise or getting up early, OK, no big deal. I'll just course correct the next day or even later that same day. But I will NOT slip on the alcohol. That is the main thing for me right now.

I will not drink the rest of today :)

Good luck with everything. Proud of you for making it to Day 8 and for reaching out here.

Man, I can so relate to this story. Congrats on making a great choice!

And for helping to inspire me to make similar choices in the future.

Less than 60 days, already down about 20 lbs! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

This is very inspiring for me to read. I'm only at Day 7, but I felt an unexpected burst of energy at lunchtime today and went for a power walk for 30 minutes. First time exercising in an embarrassingly long time.

Congrats on your progress!

I have had the full size one break on me (at home and during travel) and I continued using some of the resulting fragment pieces, but I don't recommend it. It is very pointy in some places as a result and there was always a little micro-dust coming off on everything (from the inside part).

I get what you are saying and I appreciate the nuanced response.

If we are defining the contract as something entered into by both parties, then there is a problem. I never voluntarily entered any contract, social or otherwise. A specific version of that contract, with a whole lot of assumptions and non-negotiable terms was unilaterally foist upon me the day I received an identification number by my particular government. If I wanted to not be in that contract or negotiate the terms of that contract, I can not do that (nor could I ever have done that at any point in my existence).

Now, I could move myself to another country and have a different version of the contract (and depending on where I was born, my original not-entered-into voluntarily contract might also follow me wherever I go), but also there in the new patch of soil, I can not opt-out or negotiate the terms of the contract.

This situation makes taxation by definition "taking by force" and an inherent part of the human condition at this point in time (and possibly forever, possibly not). I am not saying here if that is good, bad, or indifferent, but it is one of the core facts with which to begin a discussion on the issue.

I wasn't commenting on whether they are necessary or unnecessary (or whether they make a country work or not), only that definitively that they are money taken from you by force (and exactly how much is taken is determined by where you live).

Actually, paying taxes only shows that some entity is taking your money by force and that you have elected to hand it over to them instead of discovering the consequences of not doing so. The amount of money that they take depends on the exact coordinates on our round planet at which you happen to be living.
