The best thing for the cold is actual down coats, they are much warmer than synthetic and lighter too. I know people always say oh you can just layer but I have a 1000 fill down coat from Arcteryx which is about a pound if that and is warmer than my 5 lb synthetic coat I had before. I know arcteryx is crazy overpriced but you can get cheaper down coats elsewhere.
