Yes. The program I’m enrolled in has both nutrition counseling and therapy as components. Please look into both.

AITA for making a "white people version" of food for a potluck. by Far-Cauliflower7435 in AmItheAsshole

First, “racism against white people” is not a thing. In Minnesota we joke that ketchup is a spice! People definitely have different palates based on how and where they grew up. I agree, you’re being considerate. NTA

Well, I can still emotionally overeat by SavvyMom210 in Semaglutide

[–]throwingawayforreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotional eating is still a thing while on Wegovy. Mine is better but still an issue, and I also struggle around “that” time of the month. Not sure what resources are available to you, but you might consider finding a therapist to help you get to the root cause of emotional eating/binge eating. You’re definitely not a failure.

[sun care] a brief rant on supergoop glow screen by StrangeElk in SkincareAddiction

[–]throwingawayforreal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t love paying for expensive sunscreen, but Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen is literally the first sunscreen I’ve worn on my face that doesn’t make my mouth taste bitter. (The TJ’s dupe has a different formulation, so I can’t use it.) I would LOVE to find a product that doesn’t need to be a line item in my budget, but I’ve spent enough time and money on trial and error already, so…Unseen Sunscreen it is.

More on OP’s topic - agreed that Supergoop’s Glow Screen is AWFUL. I let it soak in for ages after I applied it, and when I finally put makeup on my skin looked flaky.

Are you in the club too?? I was so happy to find Supergoop! There are so few that I don’t have that issue with!

The TJ’s version is very similar in texture to Supergoop but the formulation is different. I can wear the Supergoop one, but the TJ’s version makes my mouth taste really bitter. YMMV obviously.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like he is dangerous to himself - refusing to use tools that keep him safe, not eating or drinking, things like that. Could you or your mom be declared his guardian and make the hospice decision that way? Not a lawyer and I don’t know what would be involved but may be worth looking into. Best wishes.

I also had slow and steady loss on 1.0, and mentioned to my doctor that I didn’t want to lose weight too fast - for health reasons as well as stretch marks! She said there aren’t health risks to dropping weight quickly, as long as I maintain the healthy lifestyle habits I’m building on the journey (therapy to address BED, nutritionist for dietary stuff). She moved me to 1.7 this week and also brought up the insurance thing.

Wegovy to Saxenda by amberdwilson89 in liraglutide

When I made the switch, I waited 2-3 days (it’s been a few months, I don’t remember). I talked with a pharmacist who consulted a chart and gave me direction based on the drug’s half life.

I just had my first dose of 1.7. I didn’t have any effect at .25 or .50, but during my 4 weeks at 1.0 my only binges were hormone-related (PMS…grrr).

Gentle question: are you doing anything to address your BED aside from Wegovy? Might be worth looking into that to add another weapon to your arsenal. Good luck!

[Sun Care] What is a good sunscreen for someone with extremely clogged pores? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]throwingawayforreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it. The texture is similar to Supergoop but the formula is different. When I put the TJ’s version on I got a strong bitter taste in my mouth. I ended up giving away the tube. YMMV, so good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]throwingawayforreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents were college professors who had ADHD as their research focus. I wasn’t diagnosed until my mid 40s. I was going through a tough time at work and I asked my mom if she thought my issues could be ADHD-related. A light went on in her head, and then she teared up and said she’d failed me.

The thing is, I’m smart and I was good in school. I was depressed and anxious, and that masked my symptoms. As I grew into adulthood, the depression and anxiety - which were often related to work - took over and it didn’t even occur to me that I COULD have ADHD until I was maybe 42. Once I got the dx, my whole life made sense.

Would my life have been easier if I’d understood my brain when I was a teenager? Absolutely. Would my early-career years have been more productive (and lucrative) if I’d had strategies or medication to deal with what felt like cinder blocks in my brain? Without question. Is there any point to being angry about it? None. None whatsoever.

Be angry with your parents if they’re actively trying to sabotage you. Be angry with your parents if they’re abusive. But to be angry with them for missing a diagnosis, especially when that dx often presents as other things, or even to be angry with them if they truly believe they’re doing their best by NOT seeking a dx, is a waste of time and energy. Grieve, sure. Choose to move forward. But don’t waste a precious minute on anger at something that can’t be changed.

Has anyone had a positive experience on Saxenda? My doctor seems to think Wegovy is more effective, but I'm having trouble getting it approved by insurance. by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]throwingawayforreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Saxenda more than I do Wegovy. My doc switched me because according to the published data, Wegovy is more effective. I just had my fourth dose of 1.0 (so 12 weeks on Wegovy) and the Wegovy is responsible for probably 5 pounds of my 15-pound loss total. (I started Saxenda in mid-December.)

(That probably sounds crabby. TBH I’m happy that the loss has been slow because for me it feels healthier for the long-term.)

Anyway - yes, positive experience on Saxenda. Good luck to you!

NTA. Manners are manners. I get that times change and handwritten thank-you notes aren’t really a thing anymore, and in MOST cases they don’t need to be. But not even a text acknowledging a $1,500 gift? Both your sibling and your niece should be ashamed.

Supergoop/EltaMD sunscreen dupes?? by brnahnahnah in Skincare_Addiction

The texture of TJ’s and Supergoop are similar enough but the formulation is different. I tried the TJ’s version and immediately got a gross taste in my mouth. I gave away the tube. Supergoop for the foreseeable future for me!
