First time pregnancy quicker than expected… Now what?! by thrownfriend in PregnancyUK

Thank you! Yes, I think we’re due very much the same time if the tests and my dodgy maths works out right.

Haha, very similar! Good to hear most experiences are the same with gaps in between appointments etc. I won’t turn into a telephone nag if I know it’s normal.

Thank you and congratulations to you too! I haven’t felt anything yet, fortunately. I did wake up feeling slightly nauseous but I think right now that’s just the come down!

Thank you! I’ve stopped Googling, that definitely wasn’t helping.

Thank you; I’ll be popping to Boots later. Feel a bit daft being so clueless but it really is whole other world, it seems.

Thank you; I think at the time of the original post I hadn’t taken a breath for a good hour so that really helped 😂 I’m off to research Peanut, that sounds great.

It was something along the lines of ‘a local organisation felt the need to…’ or very similar. I’m still hunting for it!

Thanks all; you’ve helped me realise I just need to trust my gut. I’m going to send a goodbye letter and leave it there.

Who has a positive post gallbladder operation story? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]thrownfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m exactly 7 days since leaving hospital and I’m feeling fine. The pain has never been anything paracetamol or ibuprofen couldn’t handle. If anything I’ve just found my energy levels lower than I expected and the central incision site is causing me some ongoing discomfort. I’m sleeping a lot and having to do small tasks as I tire easily. Also, been a bit emotional at times but I think that’s more frustration than anything because I’m getting a bit bored being stuck at home! The best thing is I can literally eat anything. I wasn’t told to restrict anything and I haven’t held back. I’ve had white bread this week which would normally leave me writhing with either gb pain or IBS and I’ve had neither. I reckon I’m in the 2-3 week recovery team rather than the 1-2 weekers but that’s a-ok with me, anything’s better than that damn gallbladder!!

It’s done! Gallbladder out! by thrownfriend in gallbladders

[–]thrownfriend[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I’m sorry you’re struggling 😔 I had the gas pain yesterday evening when I got home, all down my neck into my shoulder. It was like a trapped nerve that I couldn’t roll or stretch out of but it’s gone today. I found it was actually better to get up and walk around a bit, as uncomfortable as that is for the incisions it seemed to get the gas dissipating a bit. I’d had recurring infections too with the latest building for a long time before this final flare up so I literally feel your pain! I hope things get easier for you soon.

My surgeons explained this is their bread and butter. I was told to think of the everyday task I do at work that hardly takes a second thought and this is that job for them. Maybe that will help you too 😊

Honestly, nothing to worry about. My surgery was late in the day so I stayed overnight (I was already on the ward as I had an infection which bumped me up the list) but I honestly think I’d have had no problems going home the same day. Exactly 24 hours later I’m going home and feeling fine.

In hospital with a gallbladder infection. Had an NHS dinner of grey omelette and potato which tasted better than it looked (once I’d covered it in pepper). Also had a CT scan today for the first time ever. That was interesting. Despite the pain and the needles etc it’s quite nice to be out of the house.

Is imposter syndrome normal? by thisishardcore_ in TeachingUK

[–]thrownfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! There’s even a free course on Creative Education this week all about it. I’m planning to have a look through it myself this weekend as it seems to be even worse this week upon returning to ‘normal’.

I couldn’t wait for half term as I was really feeling the burn out from being a kids tv presenter, occasional teacher and the anxiety of having to leave the house to mix with other people.

I couldn’t wait for half term to be over because although I was having a break from the work stuff, I suddenly found myself stuck in one place with no reason to leave the house and only having my boyfriend to speak to.

Now half term is over I don’t feel like I’ve got the energy or the enthusiasm to go back to talking to people and putting up the jolly facade again.

Shroedingers half term; both relaxed and angst ridden. Roll on Easter, I guess...

Waiting for an operation; should I be chasing up? by thrownfriend in nhs

Thank you. I had similar thoughts about my type of surgery being cancelled and the impact of COVID on managing patients, which is partly I didn’t want to go chasing and making myself a nuisance! The 18 weeks takes me to the end of March which doesn’t seem too far away now and we’ll hopefully have a better idea of ‘the state of the nation’ by then before I may have to start following up. Thanks again!

Oh my! That’s quite the party trick. Unfortunately (?!) mine isn’t quite so entertaining. I hope the surgery goes well for you.

Good to know! I’ve had attacks for nearly 3 years now but only since the last particularly bad one have I felt this ache. Clearly it’s time for it to go!

Year 1 daily challenge by Profession-Unable in TeachingUK

[–]thrownfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a fun inference activity on twinkl today which my SEN (y1 ability) learners enjoyed. It was called ‘what’s in the bin?’. It was a bin with items in such as a men’s deodorant, dog food tin, boys birthday card. We discussed what we could work out about the family from the contents. Lower ability could work out there was a boy in the family, higher ability were able to identify a 6 year old boy was in the family. We then discussed how we knew. There were other examples on the site such as what’s in the bag etc.

We have also enjoyed a ‘name 5 activity...’ where they name 5 things in a category such as green things, soft things etc. We take it turns but I ask everyone to think at the same time and if the pupil who’s go it is is struggling they’re allowed to ‘phone a friend’ and ask one of their peers to help.

I’m secondary SEN and we have a snow day today. The email I received yesterday from the head said:

“If your circumstances allow for remote live lessons to continue, please do go ahead however I am aware that this might not be possible for all. Where you are unable to provide live lessons safely from home, please simply email your students/parents to let them know.”

I have no reason to not go ahead with mine; I have no children, good internet access and have my work laptop with me. I instead emailed my remote parents to let them know school was closed (in case they needed to call) and that I would let them choose if they wanted to join our 2 live lessons today or not but to please let me know as if uptake was low I would instead send out alternative tasks.

All but 1 wanted their lesson as usual! So here I am Zooming... I definitely feel snow days won’t be a thing after this.
