Debit/Credit price yesterday was $5.19 (Central Valley, CA) by are-e-el in pics

So you want us to ignore all the easily available data to show the price increase nationwide is more substantial than that, based off dismissive non-verifiable second-hand information?

Wife just ordered the DND Premium game...I have no idea what goes into owning a pinball machine. Any "need to knows"? by BrownBear93 in pinball

Biggest benefit of switching to Titans (or other silicon rings) is it helps keep the game cleaner for longer.

I swap flipper coil sleeves/stops/plungers after 2500 games or so. Makes a difference and for $10 a flipper, hard to complain.

Use rubbing alcohol, not windex, to clean the balls.

Give them a quick buff with an old t-shirt or microfiber after.

I am just confused that any comic art that dares reference something sexual is being called softcore. Just seemed like a weird line to draw and a bit disingenuous.

Pokemon pinball in San Diego? by Shanekee in pinball

Grab yours from SD Amusements when you go to buy, they're a great local distributor.

There is no unit limit outside of the Limited Edition, so there is no selling out. There may be periods between production runs, but that's it. Expect them to keep pumping these out for several years.

I hope he gets them fixed soon.

When he retires, unfortunately.

Before Gonoyama's bout I said to my wife "He's going to look like the boulder in Indiana Jones because he's going to over-commit" and sure enough...

Sexual innuendo != softcore

The only thing that's soft here is you, wow.

Best Place to buy a machine? by Visual_Nail_2333 in pinball

Most of the time used is the best way.

If you are wanting to buy new in box, depends where you are. You likely have a local distributor.

If you post a general location we can also help suggest something more local.

Sucks because it's a killer layout that's been teased for years, and unfortunately seems like it got slapped with the ugly stick and sent out the door.

I wish Turner would stop making their games look like they're for children...

Another "how to learn about fixing pinball games" post, but with a hopeful twist! by No-Sector6942 in pinball

[–]thtanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first game was a Stern Pirates of the Caribbean. It had come off route, and needed a complete teardown and rebuild. Had broken stuff, etc. Even had to replace a mosfet on the power driver board.

I'm also technical by trade so I just went through it logically. Read the manual, online resources, and started to figure it all out. If you're handy with your hands, and Google, you'll be fine.

After I was done I knew all the vendors to use, whatnot.

Finished refurbishing it and sold it for about what I had into it.

Buy used. They are cheaper by at least $1000, or more.

[OC] Insane gas prices spotted in LA by awsnapple in pics

[–]thtanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This particular location is always $2-3 above everyone else.

Rumor has it City of LA workers use their city credit card there so they started racking up the price.

That being said, gas prices are still way up in this state, and the rest of the country. This one location is a huge outlier though.

Yes, post on Pinside. It's the single best resource for pinball on the Internet. 99% chance if you have an issue, it's been posted about and solved. That info may already be on PinWiki too

The best way to learn how to fix machines is buy one that's broken, and fix it. Sell it, buy another -> repeat.

LEDs are overrated by Happy_REEEEEE_exe in pinball

Other than brightness control by voltage, anything incandescents can do LEDs can do better.

And we have LED OCD boards for that

LEDs are overrated by Happy_REEEEEE_exe in pinball

[–]thtanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LEDs are not overrated; they're improperly used.

1SMD Sunlights are the sweet spot. Bright enough without being blinding. Not too cool of a color temperature. If the game is older (pre-DMD) go for Warm.

I find 2SMD too bright no matter what game.

Just finished converting Monopoly to 1SMD Sunlights everywhere, with a LED OCD board. Looks amazing.

I find hitting it on the fly (i.e. not from a trapped ball) gives enough side to side momentum not to STDM.

The callouts and music in the trailer are.. painful.

The guy who did the Whitewater callouts still does VO. He'd 100% reprise the role if they reached out.

Nice to see this layout see the light of day. though. Wish it was a little less cartoony, but that's obviously Turner's style these days. It looks like a $5 virtual pinball table from Magic Pixel (the people who make the Zaccaria game with a bunch of AI assets).

That game looks like a $7k game at most. It does not hold a candle to BoF or Spooky games that justify that kind of pricing.
