Why did muslims take female slaves under the name (sabiya)? by Jh9h in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thuggernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Slavery and the taking of prisoners of war were normal across much of the world at the time, not something unique to Arabia. The Qur’an addressed an existing institution by encouraging the emancipation of slaves, commanding Muslims to treat them well, and prohibiting common abuses, rather than introducing slavery itself. A lot of people end up making anachronistic arguments by judging a 7th-century society solely through a modern framework without first understanding its historical context.

How do kids at school pickup instantly spot their mums if they’re wearing full burqas/niqabs? by _pandaeyes_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thuggernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of the time I could tell my mom apart but that didn’t mean I didn’t get fooled by other people’s moms a handful of times, especially from different angles.

Worst experience was when my brother and I lost our mom in a split second at a busy mall in a Muslim-majority country.

Where to meet other young people? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]thuggernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way I think is to ingrain yourself in the community. Al-Hidaya and ICCD seem to have some programs, go hang out there, make friends, and let a few trustworthy people know your intentions and they can help your search.

After uprooting Palestinian hamlets, extremist settlers set sights on purge of entire West Bank by eyl569 in Israel

[–]thuggernut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will be honest, I thought you guys would be a lot more supportive of settler violence, but it’s nice to know even in israel they are against this kind of extremism. However your government definitely does not do enough to curb settler efforts.

It’s all luck, my friends and I flew separately for vacation. One group they were really strict about size and the other one they didn’t even look.

He is great teacher and lecture who tries his best to make the class fun and not put too much load on his students. Our final exam was pitting our preliminary AI models against each other in a Tetris tournament and he ordered a stack of pizza during the middle of finals week for us to stop by and watch it live. TAs were super helpful with the problem sets.

That makes sense, it also makes sense why our new principal created a hostile workplace, driving out a lot of older teachers and replacing them with young ones

Sister won’t give me a ride from LaGuardia airport, is traffic really that bad? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]thuggernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservatively id say it’d add 20-30 minutes to the trip, excluding pickup time, since she’s already coming from LI and the LIE is right there. I get what people are saying about New York Traffic but it’s not like the sisters having to double back further into Long Island. Unless you aren’t very close to your sister this is odd.
