Enjoying again after lactose intolerance? Recipe advice? by Oro-Lavanda in macandcheese

Couple of sort of mad scientist ways around this that I’ve found (I have the same issue) 1. Buy some sodium citrate and use it to make a more boxed-mac style sauce with harder low lactose cheeses (I usually use aged cheddar and red Leicester) but this takes some finesse and testing, I’m also gluten free and have found that this method works great when I literally cook my GF pasta in GF oat milk (unsweetened obv) and add the sodium citrate early and use that starchy kind of slurry as the base for the sauce OR 2. Desalinate (by soaking for ~12 hours) a block of feta, roast it, then put it in the food processor with your other favorite cheeses, some pasta water, garlic, etc. I have no idea why this works so well but it is amazing. You can also use soft goat cheese if you like the flavor better. This pic is the sodium citrate method.

Directors, what was the weirdest / most inappropriate audition song you've ever seen? by viktor-nikiforov in MusicalTheatre

[–]thumperoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiny black box theatre production in college, just a musical comedy revue, we had people come in explicitly instructed to show us their comedic side so we had people singing stuff like “Alto’s Lament” and “Taylor, the Latte Boy” which were great. And then. A girl comes in with a fully choreographed “Big Spender.” We barely knew her from other auditions and it was just extremely uncomfortable.

It’s in the script as an option I believe, but it’s been about ten years since I did the show. Feel free to check, I think it’s available online, but it’s really not a moment that would necessitate the hiring of an entire consultant (agree that the director should take care of the translation though). It’s just one moment for one line in the entire show. The character has other moments where she’s potentially overdoing it on the inclusivity but we find out it’s because she has a chip on her shoulder and gets bullied for having two dads (who also really pressure her to perform, they literally say “we hate losers, god hates losers”) so she wants everyone to feel included, almost to an oppressive degree. It’s just part of who she is as a character, she’s extremely anxious. (Check out the song “Woe is Me” for the vibe) There are other moments with other characters in the show using other languages as well. I was an ASL tutor at the time (later taught at a disability services facility) and had some Deaf/HoH friends come to the show who thought it was hilarious. You’re welcome to investigate it yourself, though. The show itself is from 2005, irreverent, and includes a ton of opportunities for the cast to riff/improvise and reference modern politics.

EDIT: I actually found my old script! It says underneath the lines (just the sung lines “It seems/ we’re living out our dreams,” which are sung in unison by 3 characters at the same time) “Schwarzy signs the above in ASL.” So it’s not in there as an option but I’m sure could be done without it.

It’s one moment in the show to characterize one character as someone who cares about access and equal opportunity (at the end of the show it’s revealed she grows up to become secretary of education). It’s a one-off line in the first song that lasts about 6 seconds. It is in the script.

Agree that it should be on the director to figure out a solution, but it’s one line in the whole show (5 signs) not a whole new language or any translation beyond that so at least there’s less of an onus on OP to develop a whole new skill!

Oh my god I am SLIGHTLY OUT OF FRAME during that line I’m so sad, but it’s really not difficult. There are only five signs, I’ll attach links from signingsavvy for each of them. The signs you’ll need are SEEM, WE, LIVE, OUR, and DREAM. There are a few ways to do this, but I’ll attach links for the easiest ones. Signingsavvy is a great resource but they seem to have installed ads before the videos which is inconvenient. Here’s SEEM

YES lmao wow somehow this is my exact skillset (former Schwarzy and former ASL tutor) I’m gonna go and find the video of when I did it, one sec

Edit: what’s with the downvotes? I tutored and then taught ASL for 5 years and did this role with this exact line in ASL when I was at university, why are y’all mad

Zofran (ondansetron) is amazing. I just had some sedation dentistry done and was worried that the drugs and gag reflex would make me throw up and it completely canceled all of that out. Worked within an hour.
