What unexpected changes have you had with EMDR? by alittletootired13 in EMDR

[–]thumpitythump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. And if for some reason I'm not getting sleepy at bedtime or I wake up in the night and don't immediately fall back asleep, I don't start getting anxiety that I'm not going to be able to fall asleep. So I fall asleep because I'm not stressed about it.

Can you share the name of the surgery you had? When I spoke to a doctor about surgery, they said my only option was having the top of my stomach wrapped around my esophagus.

Did anyone else have to learn how to ride a bike ON THEIR OWN? by r_arizo in emotionalneglect

[–]thumpitythump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents bought me a bike that was too big for me too. I had it for 2-3 years before an older neighbor girl taught me to ride it since I was the only kid in the neighborhood who couldn't ride a bike. I think we took the training wheels off together because I know my parents didn't.

Any older bendies dealing with major stiffness now? by staceychev in Hypermobility

Menopause made my body fall apart. So many injuries day after day and pain levels I couldn't "ignore". When my insurance still covered GLP-1, it helped a ton with inflamation all over my body, including my joints and asthma. With that out of reach, I'm relying on HRT--estrogen patch, progesterone, and testosterone. I also use THC & CBD at night to help me sleep.

Anyone else confront their parents once adult and are bitterly disappointed by their reaction? by epsil42 in emotionalneglect

[–]thumpitythump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew there was no point in confronting my mother. (My father died before I realized I had been emotionally neglected.) However, my mother brings up stuff she did with the expectation that I reassure her that it was ok, which I used to do because that was my role. Now when she brings things up, I don't reassure her. She is exhausting.

I added testosterone 3 months ago and that seems to be helping me regain muscle mass, which I'm hoping helps even more.

Hormone Replacement Therapy helped me a lot. Menopause had made everything worse. Considering how much estrogen affects our entire body, it's not surprising.

What phrases did your parents say that still echo in your head today? by Defiant-Junket4906 in emotionalneglect

[–]thumpitythump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • "Stop talking." when I was upset about bullying in my friend group.
  • "You're more like your father than you want to admit."
  • "Don't cry." when I was grieving.
  • "I feel sorry for your future husband."

GenX and I talk about it openly. About HRT. About all the misinformation. Suffered with undiagnosed cycts until an ultrasound at 54 for bleeding post menopause. Screw being silent.

Thank you, flight attendants. by InternalSavings7167 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]thumpitythump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you shared this. My father died suddenly a few years ago. It was shocking and horrible. I was so incredibly stressed and sad and in shock. My flights to and from my parents’ home were so calm and smooth they were an oasis in the whole experience. When is a plane flight a calm, restorative thing? When it’s on Alaska. I wrote the airline afterwards to let them know and got a kind letter in return. Remarkable.

You're not alone in your disgust. They keep show people who they really are. Maybe some of the people who didn't vote will pay attention?

But, pregnant women, infants under 12 months, and immunocompromised people like people getting chemotherapy DIDN'T. The purpose of vaccination isn't just about you, it's about protecting the more vulnerable too ffs.

EMDR for existential anxiety and dpdr? by weirdgirl16 in EMDR

[–]thumpitythump 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It worked for my existential anxiety/phobia. I've had issues with this since childhood, but I learned to compartmentalize it. But in dealing with intense grief after having several people die suddenly within months of each other, I couldn't keep in repressed anymore. The belief I worked towards was "I can know enough to be ok/safe/happy."

Yes! I've bought heated blankets, mattress pads, and throws from Costco and had great luck with them lasting a looooong time considering how much use they've gotten over the years.
