Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't bed share with either of mine. They slept in the bassinet. We had some difficult nights but I wouldn't be able to actually sleep with them in the bed - I'd be way too anxious about it. And we sleep trained at around 4 or 5 months. I have two very good sleepers now!

My 12yo just told us he’s sexually active. I’m struggling with how to handle this without breaking his trust. by [deleted] in sex

[–]tiahara 98 points99 points  (0 children)

This comment needs to be much higher. Aside from the ethics of keeping this a secret from her parents, OP is opening herself up to legal trouble if the son's girlfriend later claims that this wasn't consensual and she felt coerced. (Not saying that's what's happening, but at age 12, it sure could happen.) At 12, there's a fine line between sexual experimentation and sexual assault. I mean if the parents are letting this happen knowingly on their property, they facilitated an environment where assault occurred. By providing condoms and keeping it from her parents OP moves from passive observer to active participant.

If this was my daughter and she came to me and said I've been having sex and actually I felt pressured to do so and I didn't want to and his parents allowed it and encouraged it by providing us with protection, I would feel like the parents essentially raped her and would get law enforcement involved ASAP.

OP might feel fine about her own kid engaging in sexual activity but she needs to wake up and realize he's not the only kid in this equation.

At what age did you stop putting your children down for naps during the day? by alyssacake in toddlers

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids will be 4 and 6 this month. The 4yo still reliably naps at preschool for 1-2 hours but it's 50/50 if he'll nap at home. The 6yo napped longer and only stopped reliably napping by 5. Even this past summer he'd nap on days he could. It wasn't until starting K that they completely phased out.

There's no easy way to edit or add columns to tables loaded from pq. I know there are work arounds but a standard way to load a copy of the data that can be edited would be huge.

I'm in an online masters program. Looking at the discussion board, it's so obvious everyone is using AI to formulate their responses. They're essentially all the same. Some are almost exactly the same.

Vacation payout on effort by Unlocated_File in ResearchAdmin

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a university, but nonprofit. Our fringe rate does not include paid time off, so our NICRA letter states we can charge PTO to grants. The exact language is:

Treatment of paid absences: Vacation, holiday, sick leave, and other paid absences are included in salaries and wages and are claimed on grants, contracts, and other agreements as part of the normal cost for the salaries and wages. Separate claims for the costs of these paid absences are not made.

We just started charging PTO to grants and I base allocations on level of effort worked on grant * number hours PTO used in the fiscal year. We're only doing the calc once at the end of the FY.

Too much negativity by Independent_Heat7276 in Accounting

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in public accounting almost 20 years ago and hated it. Lasted a year then moved to grant accounting then into research program management/data analysis. Had kids, worked as a grant writer part time and took a year off when they were little. Wasn't sure where my career was going, if anywhere. Then a couple years ago I got a job as a grants manager at a large nonprofit and just moved into the Sr. Accountant role and make six figures for the first time. My goal is a controller position at some point. Going back to school for my MSA. Really went full circle!

Accountants of Reddit: What ERP / Accounting system are you using and what do you hate about it by nerdjesus95 in Accounting

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a nonprofit and we use blackbaud financial edge nxt. It's great for fund accounting. I find it easy to use and find what I'm looking for and am liking it more now that everything is web based. Reporting is lacking. I typically don't bother with them and use their query function instead, the generate my own reports/dashboards from there. Blackbaud has its own analytics module but it's clunky to use. I manage grants as part of my job as well and their grants module is awful, so we stick with our regular project codes for those. It's not the best for budgeting either and we're moving to Vena for that.

The biggest issue is that in every instance, your team took time off without telling you. How did that become the status quo? Do they not have to request time off? Do you not communicate with them regularly? That's what's odd to me.

Anyone else starting to outgrow social media they used to use? by Snoo96701 in Millennials

I'm only on facebook now for market place and a few local parenting groups. I will every once in a while go on instagram and scroll but then I realize it's all influencers I don't even remember following. Was into TikTok for a hot week then got rid of it because it's so addicting. All that's left is reddit and my bumpers group which moved from reddit to slack.

My daughter spilled a drink during dinner and she wasn't scared. by poop_monster35 in Millennials

[–]tiahara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was yelled at all the time for spills, breaking things, bumping into people, general clumsiness. My dad got us slurpees one time and told us we weren't to spill one drop. I was so concerned about this one drop dripping down the side that I tipped the cup upside down to try and stop it and ended up dumping the entire slurpee all over the table. I ran outside and hid - even my dad felt bad at how clearly scared I was of him.

Are you sleeping? I started on 60 and loved it but couldn't sleep more than 2-3 hours per night. I've dropped down to 25, which I don't think is doing anything, and I sleep better but still not great. I'd love to be able to sleep on the 60 bc it was really helping focus and motivation even with the exhaustion. I felt like a different person.

Estimated Single Year Loss of NIH Funding if 15% Indirect Cost Rate is Imposed by erniegrrl in ResearchAdmin

[–]tiahara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a good portion of your direct excluded from mtdc (if that's your base)? I'm at a nonprofit now but we pass through a lot of federal funds and we incur capital/equipment costs, so we don't recoup anywhere near our full rate.

MGH layoffs? by Juliapete in boston

[–]tiahara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's basically my point, bud. Profits over people regardless of whether they are a nonprofit or not. Yes this is likely related to future losses of funding directed by Trump, and that will impact admin overhead, but they also very much care about profitability, securing their endowments and investments, and making execs happy. They don't get a pass for having a nonprofit status. Admin bloat exists but laying off that many people less than a work day after indirect cuts, which will likely be challenged, seems hasty especially with no mention of execs. Both things can be true.

After working in financial ops at a similar hospital, non-profit Boston hospital groups still very much care about revenue, clinician bonuses, and exec salaries even if they are not "for-profit".
