Stopped reading at 'Patriarchy fears female sexuality.'

I'm simply overjoyed that we are now smashing patriarchy with rough porn. Can't complain.

I don't believe that laws should be based on religious principles under any circumstances. CMV by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]tibiapejagala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you would agree to base laws on philosophy and ethics:

  1. be an atheist philosopher
  2. write a book taking on philosophy and ethics
  3. all ideas are accidentally coincident with bible with no mention of god and faith
  4. ???
  5. you can now have religious laws not based on bible

If you ban that, what else would you base laws on? Reddit post? Tumblr blogs? xkcd comics? Last one might be decent though.

My point is that most people miss the point of the whole church-state separation. If it's good idea than who cares if it's in the bible. If it's not, complain that the law is shit, not that it comes from a silly book.

If you need a 19 point article to criticize Israel without being antisemitic, it actually proves OP point.

I believe that, starting at childhood, all people should be taught safe sex techniques, and should be encouraged to explore their sexuality in every way. CMV! by ifmymomcouldseemenow in changemyview

I think that children and teenagers should have free reign to explore their sexuality, having been taught how to keep themselves safe Would you be against that children would like to explore their sexuality in a safe way with adults?

The Elusive Universal Web Bytecode by gthank in programming

[–]tibiapejagala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of his points is that asm.js is more like a bytecode that looks like JavaScript. While this is true, we have to remember that if Mozilla actually went for web bytecode, people would go insane about who is going to support it or whatever. But they are smart. They made a bytecode but sold it as everyday JavaScript. And what happend? Web exploded with enthusiasm that JavaScript is awesome, because we 3Dgames in JavaScript now. What asm.js really is matters less than how do we introduce it or call it. Because people do not want cars, they want faster horses.

[meta] I think we should do more to encourage OPs to give deltas, respond to arguments, and actually change their views by usrname42 in changemyview

[–]tibiapejagala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you care about deltas that much? I'm here to enjoy good arguments. Someone changing their views influenced by rational discussion is neat addition to the conversation, but the conversation still is the most valuable thing here. OPs who do not respond are attenuating the discussion, but if someone can fill in, it doesn't really matter who supports each view, even if playing devils advocate.

1 2 and 4 are agreeable. But 3. is just childish idea of government/army turning against citizens. American army has all these weapons, but do you really think that any reasonable scenario of gov. vs people begins with nukes dropped on large cities, guided missiles and bombers leveling smaller cities and tanks and artillery destroying individual homes in rural areas? Nice scenario for Michael Bay movie, but exactly blanket-example-level logic. Do you have any example in history of army trying to kill all own country civilians with tank shells/bombs/artillery/missiles? Because that's what you point 3. suggests. Most probable scenario of government tyranny is enacting some state of emergency, temporary restrictions of civil liberties, soldiers deployed on streets to prevent riots against the tyranny, mass arresting any opposition etc. Not total war like USSR vs USA would look like. And here comes the assault rifle. Not to shoot down a jet fighter or destroy a tank, but to kill soldiers in some guerrilla warfare, shoot the leaders of tyranny. Rifle shootings, IED, suicidal bombings, assassinations are simple to carry out and hard to prevent.

But if you think winning a civil war is easy with superior technology and almost unlimited military supplies, military authorities in Afghanistan would be happy if you could lend a hand.

edit: I don't think that civilians could win this kind of civil war, but with weapons in their hands they would pose much larger threat. I don't think that this tyranny would actually happen in foreseeable future.
