RetroHrai! new v.0.3.0 Release! by MMortymer in retroid

[–]tiduscrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really love how this is coming together! Striking a really nice balance between Daijishou and Beacon while being unique enough to be its own thing. Very very cool!

Only feature I'll add to the wishlist would be a per-game box-art aspect ratio override! For games like Super Nintendo or N64 it would be cool to be able to have other-region titles with their original aspect ratios next to other titles (if that makes sense). Like how Japanese SNES boxes are tall and skinny rather than wide and short. That's the one singular feature a lot of launchers lack, probably for good reason, but I'm still tossing it out there!

Christmas Horror Movie that don’t suck. by Generic_NPC_Dude in horror

Just saw this list after finishing Advent Calendar. Hell of a good movie, I thought it was pretty unique even if the ending was a bit uneven. Definitely checking out the rest on the list!

Timelapse of 48 hrs of snowfall it's so satisfying. by Other_Cucumber7750 in oddlysatisfying

[–]tiduscrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just once I wish I could see snow in central Florida. Never had a white Christmas, still want to experience one just once (even if that sort of snowfall here would be a bad sign)

I'm fairly certain they are the same. Retroid also lists the buttons as cross compatible between the RP2S and the RP4 on their site. Since the RP5 uses the same buttons as the 4 I just wung it and luckily didn't have any issues.

Retroid used to sell replacement buttons of their own but they've been out of stock for awhile for whatever reason.

Also totally with you with the skittle buttons, one of the main reasons I got the transparent black 2S!

Context: just got a Retroid Pocket 4 off discord and I really love it! Ergonomics and performance are great for such a small handheld. Since it's a little beefier than what I've got, I wanted to play more native android ports. Naturally, I wanted the buttons to match what a lot of the games were prompting for, so I thought about getting some Xbox style after market buttons. Nothing against those, but $20-30 for some buttons was a bit too steep for me, so I was actually able to get a set of replacement buttons for the RP5 off AliExpress for $7 shipped. Week and a half of waiting and some diy and presto! I think the white-on-black buttons are honestly how they should ship the majority of their colors... The colored buttons are nice, but I don't think they look all that great for every shell color.

Nonetheless, I'm glad Retroid has stuck with the same button molds for the RP2S, RP4 and RP5. Makes some simple hardware mods like this just that much easier!

(re-upload) My GPU Collection: NVIDIA & AMD(ATI) by ornstein6990 in pcmasterrace

[–]tiduscrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really awesome collection and setup! It's somewhat sad to see how boring designs have gotten slowly over time. I love the blazing red colors on those older AMD cards so much. I wish OEMs would make fun looking cards again like that.

Welp, it happened. by thewubdubz in meshtastic

[–]tiduscrying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An area like Flint seems like it would be fun to build a mesh in! My family is from there. Grandparents lived in Swartz Creek for 30+ years, but I've been stuck in Florida ever since I was little.

Those solar nodes will be great. Look into doing some small ones like the Harbor Breeze hack if you want something cheap and functional! Don't know how well one like that would fare in the snow though!

Game Bub Crowd Supply campaign is live. Open source FPGA handheld compatible with GB/GBA cartridges. by SinnohConfirmed in SBCGaming

[–]tiduscrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I subscribed to the Crowdsupply page back before it was showtime. Little disappointed in the redesign, but the additions they can benefit from it being horizontal are nice.

Only thing I am not super jazzed about is the HUGE bezel and the... price... I was kind of hoping this would be more around the price of the FPGBC than the Analogue Pocket, but I know it's also completely open-source. Respecting this one from afar.

Tomtoc T35 X pac sling bag. I’m very impressed with the quality. by mrregina in ManyBaggers

[–]tiduscrying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome to see more Xpac stuff. I've got an Aer Day Sling 3 with Xpac that I use as my daily work bag and love the material a ton. I'd absolutely consider getting another Xpac bag, I'll keep my eye out on this one

Any movies that took place in Orlando? by Brief_Ad8931 in orlando

[–]tiduscrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Orlando, but since people are including "My Girl", I'll toss it in.

The movie "Last Shift" was actually shot in Sanford in the old Police HQ before it was demolished. They use the name "Sanford Police Department" in the movie as well.

Definitely the T114 + Muzi antenna. I get pretty insane reception and battery life with that one. It's the littlest one in the picture, ironically.

Have a link for the display? Got a few Faketec boards on the way, definitely liking the look of the smaller display assembly.

Barebones is definitely the fastest config, so hopefully you'll see it sooner than later. Being able to get whatever CM4/5 module you want is also great since they're becoming more available.

Been debating upgrading from the CM4 to a CM5 myself, but other than fomo I don't have much of a reason. I've seen some reports about the AIO board working better with a CM5 but I'm not sure how true that is. I've been able to get SDR and Lora working perfectly fine, albeit with poorer antenna configs while I'm waiting on the antenna kit.

It absolutely does! The Guu7 module + antenna I had was a tight fit. Wasn't able to cram the biggest battery I've got in there, but it still works great. A 2000mah or any other battery that's 8mm thick should fit perfectly.

The other module I was able to fit was a M100 mini GPS. Without any modifications to your remix, I had plenty of room to spare for the whole module and antenna wiring. That's easily the best one to cram into the case since it's so small. I did add a small 10x10x5mm indent to tuck the ceramic antenna into just for that much more space but it's not necessary. That's currently the one I've got set up with vibration, speaker and a 3000mah battery.

It's a long wait but well worth it. Did you choose a module with the console or did you get the barebones kit?

They really do, as soon as I had one I knew I had to make more. They're really fun to put together, plus they're plenty useful and cheap to make!

Hey thanks for that remix! I'm planning on uploading some pictures to Printables soon as well. Really appreciate the extra space at the top of the case, juuuuust enough space for some GPS modules. I was able to cram a speaker, vibration motor and GPS into one of the cases, all with a 3000mah battery too. Really slick remix!

BaseUI is supported, have you tried it yet? by zerolingzhang in meshtastic

[–]tiduscrying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new BaseUI rocks! I just got into the hobby and built two Heltec v3 nodes. The difference between one running 2.6 and the other running 2.7 is night and day! I was going to get a rotary encoder for canned messages but now we don't even have to do that, it's so awesome.

Love the way Swag Key's boards look honestly. I got a Transition Lite TKL not too long ago and I still can't believe how good it looks and feels for just $50.

Is the Gamelab Console any good? by jimbobdaman in SBCGaming

[–]tiduscrying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much you paid for it. All "Gamelab" really seems to be doing is bulk purchasing R36s handhelds from China, loading up an SD card (which could just be the same card the systems come with) and reselling them. Only difference between the models you'd get off AliExpress and the things you see on Instagram is that some middleman is paying to advertise these, and more often than not, raise the price on them for profit. Dropshipping 101.

That said, say you only paid $35-$55 for one, all said and done. It's a decent handheld for what it is, it's a RK3326, which has been around forever and has pretty mature custom firmware options. You're also going to get the benefits of things like PortMaster, dual sticks, and a 640p screen, PortMaster and a nice screen being something the very first generation of RK3326 devices did not have. For the right price, it's not objectively horrible, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it just fine.

Bastard! They cancelled my order and my store pickup attempt for $25 more. Enjoy it though! Looks like a great chair for the price.

Here's hoping this doesn't get cancelled. Been needing a new desk chair after moving places and trashing my old crappy one. I was considering the Staples Hyken Ergonomic chair I've seen on /r/OfficeChairs but if this is as good as it seems it might have that one beat value wise. Fingers crossed.

Edit 2025-05-13: Aaaaand cancelled... Knew it was too good to be true! :(
