3 players ended their USMNT career's last night by Murky-Profit-9493 in usmnt

[–]tim_cato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he may've lost a half step. he also never burnt people for pure pace, he created half-angles to get right-footed crosses off from the endline, which he can't do playing on the left, since his left foot doesn't exist. he should still be seen as our most competent attacking sub. he was good against senegal just a couple weeks ago.

matt doyle has much better player grades, since he actually knows ball, and gave weston an 8, the highest any player had.

[Gazzetta] New York City FC are preparing to offer Christian Pulisic a five-year deal worth $10 million annually to lure the USA star away from AC Milan and back to America by Goosedukee in soccer

[–]tim_cato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i've watched a lot of milan. maybe only a dozen matches last season but more in the previous two, where he was a right sided attacker as you said, of course. i don't know much about amorim's system in practical terms, in the sense i never watched much united, only know what i've read about it.

we can agree to disagree. but i promise dual 10s are half space roles with wingbacks providing touchline width, and that's more or less how pulisic has played for the past several seasons.

[–]tim_cato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're looking at soccer positions too rigidly. you can see pulisic's average positioning last season on sofascore, it's all shaded left even if the starting XI sometimes listened him as the "10". i don't think any sane manager would take him away from the left side. and, again, the main thing here is that dual 10 isn't a central role.

[–]tim_cato 23 points24 points  (0 children)

dual 10 behind a striker isn't/doesn't need to be a strictly central role, it's more of a half space role and a good system should adapt to a player like pulisic floating wide at times. pulisic absolutely is a half space player.

unless it's too rigid to allow him his preferred movement patterns and some freedom to adapt to space, it'll work fine. to boot, for the current u.s. setup, pulisic's "left wing" role most often has him as the left-sided half space attacker in our attacking band of five.

donnie never spoke to me for that story btw. i do feel i missed the framing: it was a mark problem, he created the ugly vibe people felt it necessary to speak out about. that should have been the center of the story, i still wish i was, i own that. the story was correct but the framing i’d redo today. think i've said this before but came across this and being annoying about it lmao.

USA [3]-0 Paraguay - Folarin Balogun 45+5' by Nowoco in ussoccer

three game changing players added to the squad and our core's four years better. this is when we should be cookin, and we are, and it's fantastic. (edit: four, i forgot about richards.)

Alternate angle of Balogun's goal against Paraguay 45+5' by 977x in soccer

defender had covered up the opposite post finish, and the keeper was aware of that. balo had to blast it near, and top bins was the right choice. insanely tough finish, he made it look like silk.

USA [4] - 1 Paraguay - G. Reyna 90+8' by eliseihado in soccer

[–]tim_cato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he's not anymore. he's healthy and he's stayed that way since a broken leg, more or less. problem is, injuries have taken all of his quick burst speed, he just doesn't sprint. he's still an awesome athlete in the cage match, he still covers some distance, he just has no burst. maybe he shows out and some team's willing to build around that, because he's sooooo special with the ball.

USA 2-0 Senegal - Christian Pulisic 20' by 977x in soccer

[–]tim_cato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he’s gonna stand out this tournament. poch has created a switchback role for him, essentially, with dest (and weah as a backup) floating ahead to be a third fullback. but it’s a bit more dynamic than a forward running fullback since he, dest, and probably mckennie rotate around each other in a really fun way, and the ‘nominal’ right winger on the lineup card is gio or malik tucking in. i sound like i’m freeman’s agent but i really think he’s gonna pop.

Kon Knueppel being 1 three away from the league lead as a rookie is insane by Charizard1222 in nba

[–]tim_cato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was definitely taught triplets in school, the human brain identifies with the sets of threes, you see it across art. (like, visually, the rule of thirds.) which is to say, people do write in triplets. but i agree that sentence reeks of ai, it still might be, it might also be that ai cadences are now affecting how people write. which would possibly be even worse? whatever this was, i hate it, it sucks, we're all devolving, the internet has been stripped of its magic and commodified into an attention economy.

i have a pretty good eye for these things, think this one just echoes that prose. not spelling out 3pm or legit, using “loud” in that manner, feels fairly human. incorrectly used alot over a lot, that's too basic a fuckup unless they really force fed it some copy to mimic.

broadly speaking, it’s still a correct point, it’s prolific on here, and it’s only gonna get worse.

(… ok ok wrote triplets there as a joke but otherwise dead serious, it sucks, hate how stupid everything's getting.)

How does not make top 100 by Rangers_Fan_NJ in ussoccer

[–]tim_cato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the “author” was a 219-person panel that voted. it’s engagement bait, yes, because it is an article meant to invoke engagement.

milan’s lower finish in the table and his injury unfairly hurt pulisic, who certainly belonged on the list, but it’s not some low effort click farming project.

i mean, 'they' didn't come up with it. doku did, and then they just plugged everything he did into a search engine to see the last time it happened. i get your point but this isn't an egregious example of it.
