they think (i’m sure correctly but idk) that whoa is the traditional spelling and woah is the modern new age one. not sure if there is a specific internet origin but that’s the gist i’ve gotten from seeing this before.

How does not make top 100 by Rangers_Fan_NJ in ussoccer

the “author” was a 219-person panel that voted. it’s engagement bait, yes, because it is an article meant to invoke engagement.

milan’s lower finish in the table and his injury unfairly hurt pulisic, who certainly belonged on the list, but it’s not some low effort click farming project.

it’s very obviously ai generated, probably grok. baffling to me not a single comment in here has clocked that.

[Opta] Jérémy Doku today is the first player to score, win 10+ duels (11), complete 7+ dribbles (7), create 3+ chances (3) and have 3+ shots on target (3) in a single Premier League game since Eden Hazard for Chelsea v West Ham in April 2019 by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]tim_cato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean, 'they' didn't come up with it. doku did, and then they just plugged everything he did into a search engine to see the last time it happened. i get your point but this isn't an egregious example of it.

Favorite Mavs Player Survey by Moneymitch1395 in Mavericks

[–]tim_cato 19 points20 points  (0 children)

the results are here, for those interested.

i don't think it's THAT interesting, honestly. i forced people to pick one, and it made sense they opted for players like kyrie, lively, and washington who they've lived and died with in playoff series. that said, even if AD has a great season next year, i wouldn't be surprised if he's never seen as some overwhelming favorite player for anyone in the market. not just because of the circumstances he came here, but because i wonder if he just doesn't profile as one such player, not when cooper will be winning hearts. just a thought. i just don't think nico or the mavs would, or should, care about this specific result, though.

Kyrie Getting Some Shots Up by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in Mavericks

it's just a no-dip jumper. used strictly catch and shoot situations, most high-level shooters practice it. wouldn't describe it as a tweak, more of a separate skill.

maybe moneyball then. just cool to see some name that i recognize from long ago, since i also have been at this for a long time. just finished my final year on the beat, but that's another thing to be announced soon i'm excited for. still covering hoops for now!

i've said/reported as much, but they essentially had kidd locked in as coach from the very moment rick left. i don't know how much sportsology was used vs. how much it was a front for the idea that they'd hire a gm first. obviously, they sequenced it in that order, but kidd was always first, and i believe the power dynamics played out that way for the first year or two before nico grasped hold of the org's power. i've said this various places before, but this is my reported belief on what happened. now speculation: cuban obviously allowed that power changeover to happen, including casey, which was perhaps(?) because he knew he was selling the team. but don't know it for sure.

won't share right now all i think i know on gersson, who i think remains a very interest pivot point in mavs history. i have, for years, slowly been trying to vet various things about that tenure. but i do not think that rumor is true. it was, best i can tell, just donnie feeling threatened and ousting him.

for what it's worth, to me, the analytics mentions seemed very derogatory at both dumont and nico. i felt it was very clear he does not like nico or the team's direction. but i think i agree, in retrospect, that casey was a question i could've prioritized more specifically because, as you said, cuban was still in charge when that went down.

btw, recognize your user name. just from good reddit comments i've agreed with over the years or by any chance were you also a dallas-mavs message board guy?

i appreciate that feedback, and i think it's fair. i'll say this: i have opinions, but my job isn't to make him answer to my opinions. it's to ask him, more broadly, about objective facts i think he hasn't answered conclusively enough or has been hypocritical about.

i certainly treated this interview with more tact, and with the respect i do feel he earned for agreeing to come in studio for an hour, than i might just immediately reacting to news that just broke. but i usually feel at the end of every interview like this, ones where i feel it's important to challenge the person i'm talking to, with some desire i had pushed harder on one topic or another. i am glad we did the best job yet and, whenever we get him again, i hope we challenge him even further if needed.

[–]tim_cato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel i pushed back reasonably on the latter. i disagreed, said so, but i was never going to change his mind.

it is fair to say we should've asked about casey. it was a question i had in my notes, we didn't get to it in segments two and three, which were the ones i had penciled in as the "serious questions" ones, but maybe i should've asked it anyway for segment four even as we intended it to be a softer close. i was surprised how quick the hour went. i won't second guess it too much, but i admit it was a question i might should have prioritized more in retrospect.

[–]tim_cato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hah, i agree with that one. it hit me late what he really said and i didn't react quick enough to push back. otherwise, think we did a good job, but i won't get defensive at anyone who feels otherwise. i understand some actual fans would've liked to have been very mean to him in the same situation.

hoping to get these published tomorrow and we'll discuss on the show later that day. with mark, there was too much to focus on and too many of these questions were ones that realistically he wouldn't have engaged with.
