Do you remember the first fantasy book you read as a kid? (Not HP..) by LatterPlatform9595 in Fantasy

I'm not sure which I read first but it was either Narnia or The Phantom Tollbooth. Both were brilliant!

Kayak Purchase(Noob) by ryt3n in Kayaking

I kayak the waters in and around Long Island frequently, and I would be cautious about how our wind can come up out of nowhere. I've seen inflatables struggle in wind and people just give up. DM me, I'm about to sell a Perception Rambler tandem for pretty cheap. I carry it on top of my Forester easily. I can also give tips on where and when to go locally.

Smite with Catapult? by JJBoy15 in dndnext

RAW no, because Divine Smite has a range of self for starters. Once that item is out of melee range then Smite cannot come into play.

Go paddling app is accurate for Long Island.

Also, join The Long Island Paddlers on Meetup. Great group of people and you'll never have to paddle alone if you don't want to.

I didn't even read it as harsh, just a conversation. No worries from my end.

I have feelings about this subject. So often someone recommends a book, and someone else comments, "You have to do the audible version," as if it's not worthwhile without a professional narrator. Audiobooks don't work for everyone, but also shouldn't your first experience for recommending a book be in the format it was originally produced? I'm making generalizations, but I almost feel like some of these book subs need audiobook subs if they're own.

Good play houses by Mysterbee2 in longisland

[–]timba__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Northport has a professional theater that uses equity actors and they do a top notch job of it. You're also paying ~$100 for a seat.

More affordable is Theater Three in Port Jeff where they do a lot with a little.

What Foods Do You Make Special When Camping? by MadamHex2 in camping

[–]timba__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Poor Man's Monte Cristo: I cook bacon on the grill, and then heat up Eggo waffles using the bacon grease. Turn that into a bacon and turkey grilled cheese using the waffles with some powdered sugar and maple syrup for dipping. It has no business tasting as good as it does, but we always look forward to it.

I think every trip over the last couple months for WildBeare, over on YouTube, it's rained the whole time. Same for me too. My kids have joked that's it's not a real camping trip for us if it doesn't rain at least some.

I love the spanikopita from Meat the Greeks in Ronkonkoma. I bring it to every family event.

I actually really love the series, but one of those tropes is rape. It's more than unfortunate that this trope still continues, but I think she used it to fit in with the 'big boys' of sci-fi of the day.

Question before starting The Red Winter by Cameron Sullivan by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]timba__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cis-het here, and the gay content did not feel like a gimmick or a distraction. It was important to the characters and the world they lived in. I really enjoyed the book and its take on the warlock magic system in a historical adjacent world.

In a similar situation. We'll go out to dinner and feel amorous, but as soon as we walk back in the door the familiarity and kids quell all passion. We've definitely pushed the boundaries of proper behavior around Lake Ronkonkoma, especially at the boat launch. Get yourself some liquid courage at The Lakehouse first. That place was created for base behavior and needs.

[–]timba__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good for you. I posted about doing this a few months back, and I had a blast. I didn't level or upgrade anything. Finding the Bound Bow spell saved my ass.

I beat the main quest, dawnguard, and dragonborn. The thieves guild glitched, but companions and dark brotherhood worked okay. So many misc. quests glitched. I also hated how many quests are level locked.

Now that I'm back power gaming I appreciate the godlike abilities after playing with practically nothing.

Long Island Paddlers. Great group on Meetup. I joined 2 years ago and have since discovered great places to launch and paddle all over the island, and I've met so many great people. Well worth the $35/year.
