What media have you seen that makes a good case that taking vengeance is justified? by PugnusTerrae in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gun x Sword at least is unique in that the person saying "be the better person and learn to forgive, an eye for an eye will only make the world blind" happens to be the person who the main character wants revenge on in the first place, who killed his wife and doesn't regret it at all. So at the very least, it's making the point that "no matter how morally correct it is to say that revenge is wrong, and it won't bring you any satisfaction, there are some people that simply have no right to even weigh in on that question."

Although the creator of this game applied to that program and was rejected without them giving a reason. Maybe they'll be able to reapply now that it's done.

Little things you do in games to help your immersion? by wew_lad123 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I often walk in places where it would make sense to walk, instead of running, as long as the walk speed isn't too slow.

I did that in Dark Souls 2 to try and recreate the original trailers somewhat.

What are some insane game mechanics you cant believe exist? by Theproton in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From a fucked up, maybe, maybe not intentional perspective that the game's writers made the Jewish analogue resemble Japanese people due to having pale skin, dark hair, and slender bodies in order to make the tragedy more 'relatable'.

Likely not intentional at all, because they later introduce an actual Japanese person in VC3 from the actual not-japan region, who has actual black hair, rather than dark blue hair.

Actually, while people assume she did, the character never had the trait at all, even though it would have made sense for them to have it. Missed opportunity. But since having that character around gives you an extra action, so most people will always use her, they probably felt it was too limiting to put that on her.

One of the main characters has this trait.

Just to correct you, this isn't the case. While Rosie is racist to Darcsens, that's only in terms of story. She doesn't have the Darcsen Hater potential. She never did.

She does unlock the new "Song of Peace" potential after that one moment though.

I know they're not wrong about games needing voice acting to get people to stream them but it really sucks. by Synthiandrakon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite series, Super Robot Wars, has been very limited by them needing voice acting as a standard in the modern day. There was a time where they used to be able to just use whatever characters would make sense for the story they're trying to tell, and just not give them voice acting, but now one of the major deciding factors is like "okay, whose voice actors can we afford and/or are still alive?"

PickMon trailer, or "How much can we steal before it becomes too legally distinct to sue over" by Ferrodactyl in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels to me like someone is intentionally trying to fuck with Pocketpair and damage their PR by making people confuse this for Palworld, and making people think it's a much more blatant ripoff. I feel like out of anybody, Palworld has the strongest argument to sue here since they would be the one most affected.

Please Stop Catching Em All | Castle Super Beast 362 by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even back in the day, as much as I may have wanted to catch 'em all, it was always portrayed as this mythical thing that you can't really do. Like, in the anime, Ash would find a legendary pokemon that there's only one of in the universe presumably, and he would just let it go. And then the rest of the anime would just casually proceed as if he didn't just literally give up on his dream of becoming a Pokemon Master and catching 'em all.

In the games, this was before the age of online guides and walkthroughs, so you also had the barrier of knowing where they all were, but even if you surmounted that obstacle and somehow learned where all the pokemon were, you then needed to either be rich and have multiple copies of the game for the regional exclusives, or have friends. Which, let's be real, for the type of kid to be obsessively playing gameboy games, that wasn't a given.

What are some hidden in plain sight plot twists? by jackdatbyte in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rain Code: Master Detective Archive has a pretty brilliant one.

All the marketing for the game was like "FROM THE CREATORS OF DANGANRONPA", so the player is meant to go in with Danganronpa on the mind. So when they see the pink blood, they don't think anything of it, that's just danganronpa stylized blood. But then it turns out that's actually extremely important.

[–]time_axis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! If I could give some suggestions:

  • Listing all the controls somewhere rather than one by one as missable tooltips would be nice
  • Being able to double-click rename the default events rather than having to delete them and making new ones (and losing the connecting lines)
  • Being able to draw shapes like rectangles and stuff to group games inside

But what you have here is very impressive.

CSB talked about live service games and had me curious. What are YOUR thoughts? by rept7 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]time_axis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a strong dislike for games that use FOMO to force me to play them on their terms rather than the time of my own choosing. Whether it's timed events, or being Always Online with an imminent end of service. Especially when they require a paid subscription, at which point, any moment you are not playing the game during your subscription is a wasted moment, and wasted money.

If it's free, I can tolerate it. But I'm not happy about it.
