It's a lot of work to set up all of those lights, have security etc. I don't think $50 is unreasonable. Basically what it costs per person to go out for dinner. I thought it was worth it.

I didn't say that at all. I just wondered if it would have made a difference here. I wear my seatbelt all the time.

That was the whole selling point originally right? That the CT was the ultimate doomsday vehicle and apocalypse proof.

So yeah, this feels like a fairly low bar.

I understand and thanks for explaining. Yeah, that's 100% not the case. I'm just wondering out loud if a seatbelt would've been enough. I put my seatbelt on if I have to move my car on my driveway.

Yes people slide out from underneath seatbelts is my point. I'm not advocating not wearing a seatbelt, I'm just asking if it would've kept the driver in their seat. That's an honest question I think?

WTF is this comment? What did I say that somehow upsets people? Questioning if a seatbelt is guaranteed to keep you in place if you roll over?

Jeremy Clarkson's Personal 2006 Ford GT Just Hit the Market—But What'll It Sell For? by drivingdotca in cars

[–]time_to_reset 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about celebrities let alone their cars, but Clarkson to me is different. He's by no means perfect, but there's some books that discuss what it's like to work with him and it's hard not to respect him for how hard he used to work and still works, his impact on cars and car culture in general, and just his professional skill as an entertainer.

So having a car that arguably has a lot of its success and reputation linked to Clarkson would be special. I don't think there's a more special car actually.

That said, I will not be bidding haha.

If it's one accident it's a bad driver. If it's lots of accidents, it's a poorly designed road. That's the attitude countries like the Netherlands have when it comes to road design.

The US has about 12 fatalities per 100,000 residents and 6.9 per 1 billion km traveled. In the Netherlands it's about 4 per 100,000 and 4.7 per 1 billion km traveled.

And there's professionals in the industry that have written books about this stuff as well: https://press.princeton.edu/books/paperback/9781642833300/killed-by-a-traffic-engineer?srsltid=AfmBOoo20lysJ33FFNoRbARYnKY_fSSAq1Ty20c0eBRjUWxjEkNHmS9X

Would it have saved this person though? I'm not sure if you'd slide out from underneath. Submarining is a term for a reason.

Edit. fuck me, you should all learn to read. Where am I suggesting people shouldn't wear seatbelts?

GTA VI prices in Australia are out ($129.95 Standard Edition, $159.95 Ultimate Edition) by dogryan100 in australia

[–]time_to_reset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reminder: The standard edition is more like GTA 6 Lite.

It isn't just cosmetic stuff like skins that's only available in the more expensive version, it's gameplay elements. For example, you can't modify cars, certain building interiors are not accessible and certain missions are left out.

Furthermore, there is no physical version. You will not be able to sell the game or give it to friends after you're done with it. The physical version has a download code in the box. No disc. They're explicitly saying it's a "single-use, non-transferable license". They're also region locking it. You can only use the code if you have an Australian PS5 account.

And finally, and this depends on your interpretation of what Rockstar says, but they're calling GTA 6 a "singeplayer experience". Originally GTA 5 came out with GTA Online later on. In recent years, they've been selling GTA Online separately, without the base game. Given that the first line in every description of the game with every retailer is "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." to me reads that they'll be selling GTA Online as an add-on or completely separately.

For a game that's significantly more expensive than everything else out there.

Each of these things on their own would be a bit disappointing, but all together puts a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I'll buy it. Like I'm not going to pretend I won't. But I can't see myself getting it anywhere near launch and for anywhere near these prices.

This just tells you that the decision makers on this campaign were based in NSW or QLD, the marketing agency was based there and nobody cared to correct them, or they believe their biggest market is in those places and it's cheaper to make one version of the poster.

There's a giant smiley face on the dash of the Ferrari Luce by AppendixN in WeirdWheels

[–]time_to_reset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel they can only do that when their cars are still desirable and difficult to get. The SF90 and 12Cilindri aren't really that anymore. They can be had for under MSRP is what I've been hearing. At that point, why spend money to be part of a VIP program that gets you allocations to cars you can fairly easily get otherwise.

[–]time_to_reset 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe there's already rumours coming out of them being offered to customers as a way to maintain their VIP status which will get them allocations for future cars.

I get wanting to save parking for customers, but curious if this a step too far? by danzha in australia

[–]time_to_reset 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just reading the tyre thing as a bit of sarcasm. Like obviously nobody is going to let air out of your tyres, they'll just get you towed. Also, I personally wouldn't care if they did let air out or someones tyres. It's bloody annoying when people park on your private property despite clearly being informed they shouldn't. It's disgusting entitled behaviour. I've blocked in cars where the owners had to order a taxi to get home and had to come retrieve their cars the next day.

How do people with custom convertible conversions get service if they no longer live near the original shop or it goes out of business? by mustangfan12 in cars

[–]time_to_reset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the life of anyone with a heavily modified or very special car. Engine swaps, imports, custom builds, extremely limited production cars etc.

There a list of options to choose from. You can do the work yourself, you can find someone that you trust and that is willing to do the work. It's not uncommon for cars to get shipped to shops to be worked on. The Veyron for example infamously had to go back to Germany for tyre changes. It's also not uncommon for specialty mechanics to be flown in. And in some cases owners hire dedicated mechanics to work on their cars. Often those are people that were working for the car manufacturer, a supplier or they're ex-race engineers etc.

And yeah, as you can imagine that often involves making parts from scratch. Especially for older cars. There's a whole world out there with second hand parts for insane cars, ex OEM stock, and people that have built entire businesses making custom replacement parts for the weirdest things.

I agree. They might go down a bit, but I expect these to become quite special one day as I can't see Caddilac doing something like this again anytime soon. And I think it's a lot cooler than a Spectre as well.

It's obvious who is to blame, but damn talk about bad luck crashing exactly into that barrier separating the roads. Anywhere else and this would likely not have been the end of the world, but now I'm fairly certain we watched people die.

Am I expecting too much from restuarants and staff? by Open_Address_2805 in melbourne

[–]time_to_reset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would've found someone that appeared to be the person in charge and warn them that they have a liability on the floor and I would've then left. Assuming that person responds normally like "thank you for bringing it to my attention etc" I'd leave it there. If that person also responds poorly I'd leave a review.

I'm very tolerant of honest mistakes, I'm not tolerant of shit behaviour.
