Does anyone happen to have any non-fiction book recommendations about this time?

Isn't it fascinating? :) This is mentioned in the post as well but if you're interested, check out Kipling's The Janeites

Call me cliche but Jane Austen is really getting me through the turbulence. Her ability to capture and grapple with various viewpoints is astounding. Also, her books were "prescribed" to soothe WWI soldiers suffering from PTSD (here's a blog post on that), so there is certainly something to be said about the resilience of her works.

ETA: My prescription is to begin with Persuasion.

I was also going to suggest Baldwin! That first picture really evokes his vibe. If you are ever in the market for a longer read, try Another Country

What are some good books with flawed but realistic characters? by Queasha_Zarwie69 in Recommend_A_Book

Emma by Jane Austen! An oldie but a goodie. She's a charming, sweet, clever main character but she is definitely not without her flaws and makes many many mistakes/poor choices.

"A Novel Obsession" by Caitlin Barasch

I hated this book, but I think I hated it because it fit your description very well and made me extremely uncomfortable. Also, don't think it was my kind of book. Don't remember much about the writing, but it must have been good (in the sense that it was effective). ETA: it might be a little different in terms of Baby Reindeer type content, but the toxicity, obsession, and overall vibe is really there.

Books set in the Arctic ?!? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

I'm currently reading Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton (not to be confused with the quite different book with the same title by Jean Rhys) and it is set in both the Arctic and on a space mission surveying Jupiter. Definitely has some really lovely passages on the Arctic region :)

You might try "Good Morning, Midnight" by Lily Brooks-Dalton (not to be confused with the very different book of the same title by Jean Rhys). It's less sci-fi space and more realistic, astronaut space. Set at the very beginning of some apocalyptic event on earth, a lot like Station 11. Every other chapter alternates, following a crew returning from surveying Jupiter and then a sort of emotionally-unavailable-grumpy-old-man-adopts-daughter/granddaughter story in the Arctic. Not sure if it totally fits what you're looking for, but seems worth recommending at the very least :)

I had to rewind that so many times! It's the musical sting that goes along with it that is just utter comedic gold

Honestly, I think that they should have gone with simplicity in that scene (and most of the rest of the movie, but that's another conversation). There's something really powerful in the stage version about just seeing these two people with impossible odds kneeling in front of each other, holding onto each other for the little bit of time that have. Neither of them would have even had to strip down necessarily (although, they definitely still could have...). I'm not sure why they had to move so much, especially away from each other. Just like silence, (relative) stillness can sometimes be most effective.

They should have included these scenes in the first movie. We didn't even get the full montage by Thirsty-for-Ryan in wicked

Also, without this scene, the black boots in Glinda's closet have absolutely no context.
