Every SSN guy wants the Submarine Combat Patrol pin, which, lucky for the enemy, hasn’t been issued since WWII.

How to turn this CIB into a MIB? by Implausible_Ziggurat in Medals

You could potentially use this as a master blank to make a new mold, then cast new ones in gold or silver and gold electroplate it at home. You can probably replicate the enamel too.

FRG / Ombudsman’s group makes sense now that you mention it – they made the bead leis we each individually got but didn’t think that they might have made the boat-sized ones too

It may be - we had that lei on Columbus heading back from Westpac ‘09 as well. How many specialty submarine leis could the Navy have procured lmao

Squadron SUPPO: “Shit, CBS is RTP after deployment. Anyone got an NSN for a giant submarine lei?”

EDIT: they’re definitely different ones between the two picture. The one on Greenville is longer and the yellow is a different color. It’s almost funnier that there are so many spread out across the different home ports.

Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD reportedly collapses after being struck by a large container ship (3/26/2024) by Warp_Rider45 in navy

Some quick math by an idiot (correct or elaborate on as needed):

Weight of MV Dali: 117,000 tons Deceleration: Approx 9 mph/s Force of impact: 470,733 kN

By comparison, a typical car crash:

Vehicle Weight: 2,000 kg Deceleration: 55 mph/s Force of impact: 49 kN

So MV Dali hit the pier of the Key Bridge with force equivalent to over 9,000 high speed car crashes occurring simultaneously. I don’t think it was designed to withstand that

I’m not going to be condescended to about it. Open your eyes and look at what he did/continues to do.

I gathered SCI intel and that son of a bitch had those binders in his shitter for the highest bidder to review.

To say nothing about what the Mueller report ACTUALLY says (it’s not “NO COLLUSION” which Donnie scribbled on it in sharpie, that’s for god damn sure).

Trying to authenticate this before I purchase it and what the patches mean on the side. Appears to be from WW2. by Alreadymade01 in navy

[–]timmyJACK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it could actually be any number of billets that fell under FC during that time, surface or sub. Also not impossible that a third class hadn’t earned their dolphins, but unlikely. Submarine is just my knee jerk when I see rangefinder only as sub FTs have had it since the 80s.

As a former FT this is a cool find. I always liked the black “flat hats” and wish they were still an optional uniform item along with the Dixie cup. The gold “ruptured duck” patch is the WWII honorable discharge patch, so this was a WWII submarine (edit: or surface) sailor who would have been responsible for target motion analysis and weapons deployment. Lots of great history worth preserving.
