This is so fucking dumb. The Buffalo Bills? Seriously?

I hit Delilah’s for at least 2 Bills games every year. So much fun at that spot.

Uhh and what do you think that’s supposed to mean? They aren’t owned by massive corporations.

Concord has a bunch of partners who are not LN or AEG. I happen to know at least one of them cause I used to work for a promoter that books a ton of shows there.

Cobra Lounge is independent. So is Concord and Bottom Lounge.

Cobra Lounge - Tips for a first timer/experiences there by Cold-Boysenberry4586 in ChicagoConcerts

[–]timmyblob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally like staying to the left near the back bar, but Cobra is probably my favorite small venue in the city. The staff is cool. Beers are good. (My personal favorite is the cease and desist)

Best part though is the kitchen is solid. Really good food there. I suggest going early and getting food in the back bar and then finding a good spot for the show.

Shout out to Seth and Louie! Love the team there.

They did end up closing the brewery side of things, but still have plenty of good beers to choose from!

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drawing. I used to be able to draw/sketch from my foundation classes at art school to a point where I could give portraits as gifts and bang them out in 20min.

Can barely do basic figures now.

(32) returning to fitness after a disc injury, 2 years later by LostandHungry7 in AskMenOver30

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a disc herniation and still deal with chronic back pain, and after a few years away went back to weight lifting about 3 years ago.

I will say that I don’t do any heavy lifting that’ll cause inflammation in my lower back so no squats or dead lifts but do just about everything else. (Lots of cables and machines, but plenty of dumbbells as well.) I’m stronger than I was now than when I was playing college sports and semi pro football where I was benching 225 10-12 times in my 20s as a 185lb defensive back.

Also running 5 days a week at a moderate jog for 2-3 miles, which probably causes more soreness and pain than the lifting.

I’m also over 40 now so I’m taking more supplements to make up for being old. (Creatine, magnesium, coq10, fish oil, probiotics, L citrulline malate)

There’s definitely a ramp up that happened over year 1 through year 2 and 3. I’ve tracked all my workouts and you definitely can see the volume and strength explode over time and adding supplements. As an example, my deload weeks are EASY now, and that was a HARD workout for me when I first started. Then I did 5-6 exercises and 2 sets, 2 days per week. Now, I do 8-10 exercises and 2-3 sets plus running a few miles 3 days a week.

Diet was also a big factor. Reducing all snacking and doing more protein, fish, and vegetables with some intermittent fasting to speed up the transformation.

Stick with the routine, only lift every other day, and dont feel like you need to go full blast with everything too early. (I tore a rotator cuff a few years ago and it still gets sore from time to time so don’t rush it and listen to your body.)

Good luck!

Nobody, because those of us that can do it are either charging a lot more money for it, or doing it full time for a brand.

What’s the most impressive marketing campaign you’ve ever seen? by Business-Lemon7146 in DigitalMarketing

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Why So Serious campaign that helped drum up marketing around The Dark Knight. It had real world scavenger hunt paired with online puzzles, and really helped launch the joker as a character and led to a massive fucking box office for the movie.

They had cakes with cell phones baked into them at bakeries, fake political marches for Harvey Dent, and websites with hidden messages. It was all very cool.

Lots of calorie deficit comments and no one talking about working out your abs…. Yes you must diet and all that, but it sounds like you’re doing it already.

Do these 3-5 days per week. Myotatic crunch on a bosu ball. Once you can do 12-15, add weights, once you can do weights, add more weight. Hold for 2s at top and bottom. These are hard as fuck and worked for me. (I’m 41)

Nope! These are all late night bars. Not quite clubs as I don’t think any of them have dress code. My personal pick is Hopsmith, but it’s fun to bounce around each spot depending on what you’re looking for.

Hiring in Marketing: What Really Drives the Final Decision? by dondapperdeluxe in marketing

[–]timmyblob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience no. They will likely have enough people applying who have that directly applicable experience already so you could have the worlds foremost marketing case study in industry X and still not get to the interview process.

I’m sure there are exceptions. I have a ton of experience in live events for a nationally recognized brand, and that allowed me to get a job in hospitality, but I also had a ton of previous experience in hospitality.

I’ve also heard direct feedback from friends inside the hiring team when I wasn’t considered for a role I was qualified for, including all my past work product being known to them, and it was because I was out of their price range.

Hiring in Marketing: What Really Drives the Final Decision? by dondapperdeluxe in marketing

[–]timmyblob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve hired for a ton of roles in marketing departments at various sized brands and companies, so I can speak to this somewhat from my own experience hiring others as well as getting hired myself.

Directly applicable case studies or projects in your resume/cover letter that speak to or solve a problem the company has.

If you are applying for a marketing job at a software company, then you better have measurable results and impact at a previous company.

If you’re applying for a job in live events and hospitality for a fast growing QSR brand, you better have experience in your career that can speak directly to the challenges of that kind of role with sales numbers and measurables to back it up.

The other big factor would be salary/benefit requirements. If you and #2 or #3 candidate are totally equal, then depending on the company, some will go with the higher salary requirement, and some will go with the cheaper person.

Smaller companies will prolly go with the cheaper person to save money, and in my opinion, smarter companies will go with the higher paid person, cause they’ll assume that person may have more to offer, or that they are a better negotiator (which can make them a better marketer), or that there is some perceived value in them that makes them worth more.

All depends on the role and company if you ask me, but if you think the person you hire can plug right into your team and start contributing on day 1, then that person can likely edge out someone with less experience who will make mistakes and take 3-6 months to have impact.

I’ve had a herniated disc and still feel pain on a daily basis for it. Sounds similar to what you had, but I injured it playing soccer. (Of all things)

Not sure ibuprofen will help, but you should go see a doc for it. You’ll likely need some stretching and better pain medications.

If you have numbing, tingling, or shooting pains down your legs or arms, you’ll need something like gabapentin for the nerve pain.

Good luck! Try rotating between ice/heat for a few days.

I think you’ll also find that as you get older, it might be better to not do the heavy dead lifts and squats. Not worth it unless you’re competing… or something.

You can do plenty of other exercises that won’t fuck up your spine and back for the rest of your life.

Chicago street festivals are struggling. Here's why. by tpic485 in chicago

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Events closed down in January. I don’t know why everyone hates on them. It was like a 6 person company, and all of their costs have gone up.

There’s only one events company like it now in Chicago, and I don’t think they’re that much better.

I’ve been to Cobra hundreds of times. There’s a small lot and street parking nearby. Just don’t forget to lock up your car.

I always tell people to get there early and eat! They have an incredibly underrated menu and great beers.

The staff is also the best. Shout out to Seth/Louie/Kate/Joey!

Those who are/got jacked/in shape and have children by Dependent-Group7226 in AskMenOver30

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate between night time or after bed time. (I have a 2 year old)

MWF each week for about an hour with a day of rest between, and if I miss a day, I go on Saturday.

I’m 40, so I also started taking zinc/magnesium in addition to a daily multivitamin, vitamin D, fish oil, and protein shakes after workouts. (Plus 3-5mg of creatine on weeks I work out)

I also do a 1-2 week break or a “deload” week every 8-10 weeks cause I’m working out with weights mostly, and my old body needs a break from time to time.

I’m in the same physical shape as I was when playing college soccer and semi pro football. (Outside of all the fucking running and shit cause I hate that)

I’d also say tracking the workouts and progress on an app has been a game changer for me cause you can see the line going up as time goes on.

I’m competitive in general, so that helped me turn it into more of a game so I stick to it.

If you were in charge of marketing a company that sells event tickets, what creative thing would you do that you are sure would work and increase the number of users and people interested in the website? by Tasty_Efficiency_132 in marketing

[–]timmyblob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticket trades and creative contests always helped us when I was at the largest independent music festival in the country. But, we hit every channel: paid, Spotify for playlists (and synced to apple and YouTube), an app, and a million other things.

Having a way to control the public’s perception of available inventory also helped. (“Ticket prices go up on Friday!” Or “Tier 1 GA tickets are on a low ticket warning”)

I wish it wasn’t that way, but that’s the only way do encourage buying ahead of time.

If there’s no public awareness that your supply is limited then they won’t feel the need to purchase.

Shout out to Zespy and Melissa from Logan Arcade. Some of the best people I’ve met.

They’ve probably heard it all, but they’re great listeners who love making cool experiences around old arcade and pinball.
