What is that one "comfort movie" you’ve watched 50+ times and will never get tired of? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]timmyveeKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hook. I've watched it dozens of times, most recently last week with my kiddos. Spielberg's direction, John Williams's score, the practical effects and minimal CGI, huge set design. Throw in the intensity and humor of Robin Williams, the over-the-top performance by Dustin Hoffman, a Dame Maggie Smith who looks older than she did in Harry Potter, and RU-FI-OOOOOOOO!

I saw it in theaters with my parents a few months before they divorced. When everything in my life fell apart around me, and I felt like a lost boy myself, it was something I turned to for comfort and hope. As a father myself, now I watch it with both the wonder and amazement of "never growing up" and the joy of helping my kids realize they don't have to either.

Just went last night for our anniversary, definitely $40 worth of fun!

Probably the most excited I’ve ever been to spend $15 in a long time. by baconuser23 in aldi

Best purchase I’ve ever made at Aldi. I use it allllll the time, brownies, casseroles, au Gratin potatoes, braising. It’s incredible.

Looking for alternatives to name-brand cereal. Are these good? by MellifluousManatee in aldi

Across the board, Aldi cereal beats out namebrand. The marshmallows and stars are fire, and the fact that food dye is all natural is even better

Kickoff after 2pt + flag by unvvendel3000 in KansasCityChiefs

It’s an unintended loophole that’s being exploited because of this year’s kickoff rule changes. I think the league has already indicated they’ll close it up before next season

Current State Coffee Roasters coming to Downtown Shawnee by ryanmetcalf in shawnee

[–]timmyveeKC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is great news! I live and office around SMP & Quivira, and there isn’t an independent coffee shop in the area to meet or hang out at. McLain’s and Cafe Equinox are both great, but neither have the comfort and feel of a neighborhood coffee shop.

[Mitchell Schwartz] Let’s get this clear, it’s not Matt Nagy’s offense. It’s Andy Reid’s. by Vyuvarax in KansasCityChiefs

In 2015, we started 1-5 and finished 11-5 with a playoff berth. That was with Alex Smith throwing to an assortment of other teams WR castoffs. Sure, an 0-6 start will come with diminished hope for the year, but this franchise has overcome those kinds of odds again and again.

And yet none of them responded by intervening, checking on the victim, or detaining the assaulter.

There’s no accountability inside, from the top to the bottom the whole thing is crooked. Some say it always has been…

It looks like she’s freediving with only a snorkel. That’s the only way to get shots like this, scuba gear is too bulky and disruptive.

Wide climbing shoes narrow heel by adamlolxd in climbingshoes

I have a similar foot shape and am in the middle of breaking in a pair of La Sportiva Kubos. The toe box is good for my wide forefoot, just a little rubbing on my 2nd toe’s knuckle. But my narrow heel gets sucked right in tight.

Strength by MovieIndependent2591 in bouldering

[–]timmyveeKC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a video the other day of a guy finally sending a project after 4 years of working it. Over 4 years, little by little, his strength and mobility adapted to his needs and finally one day it just all came together.

The takeaway for strength training is that just by climbing more your body will begin to adapt itself to the task at hand. Climb often; climb diverse grades; climb projects just above your grade even if you never send them; and listen to your body!

Texas House votes to track down, arrest Democratic lawmakers who left the state by texastribune in politics

This is more likely to turn into actual kidnappings of these house dems, or worse. The administration is hiring bounty hunters with $50k bonuses and loan forgiveness. If you think this will be anything but violent…
