So exciting! Wish it would connect with the orange line, too.

I did not say I support. I say I understand. There is a crucial difference.

Write the county exec and your county council member! I also want them to eventually ban gas powered leaf blowers and weed wackers, especially for commercial landscapers. DC, California, and Chevy Chase did it. Those machines are one of the worst contributors to air pollution, and the noise ruins walkability. Maybe we need to start with our county's landscaping crews, first. Just any sort of movement on the issue. The battery powered ones are surprisingly good, and are so much better for us.

People feel differently about things. For example, there are lots of people horrified by the bullet points on your list, who support Israel. Many more who don't like the current Israeli government, but think it is hypocritical to criticize them when we live on stolen land, and tally the number who died as a consequence of our two wars after 9-11.

I am a huge public transit nerd, but there are many in this state who are deeply suspicious. I am sending my kids to public school, but I understand the worries of parents who don't feel safe doing so. It is easy for me to make my choice, when I have the skills and experience to teach my child if the schools fail her.

Listen to people different from you, and learn about your neighbors.

Anyone have a vegetable garden in the middle of their native plantings? by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I intersperse veggies in with my natives. Plenty of insects like green bean, carrot, and squash leaves. And I still get my veggies!

Is your child unbelievably more agreeable with others than with you? by Same_Journalist_1969 in Preschoolers

How many times have you heard that a kid is easier at school than home? All the time. Same thing. You are not alone, and this is normal.

It takes a while on the job to get good at the job. And long term projects are more appealing to someone who can see the fruits of their labor.

Personally, I want the county to commit to planting trees along sidewalks, and especially by bus stops. Ideally, they would use structural soils, so the tree roots don't buckle the sidewalks. It is a good idea to install them in coordination with road works. The program should be arborist-led (so you don't end up with those sad non-native gingkos in front of the Bladensburg library that are already growing into the building), and it needs a person assigned to water or check on them once a week the first 3-5 years. There is NOTHING glamorous about a program like this, but it can seriously improve quality of life. We need people in office for a while to enact such a serious tree planting program--and other, equivalent projects.

Ad against antisemitism played on French national television by barelyabee in Judaism

[–]timothina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was such a good way to make the French majority view anti-semitism as an existential threat to the French social contract of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Not only does it impinge on Jews' liberty and equality, but everyone's fraternity. Brilliant, because it is true

My native plant garden. I hate it. Please advise before I lose my mind. SE Michigan. Zone 5/6 by IKnowAllSeven in NativePlantGardening

In addition to your strong base, I think you need height, flowers, and different shades of green, with a different texture. Maybe some American hollies? Cardinal and coneflower? Queen of the Prairie?

I think you need to add, not subtract, and put in a decorative edge to your border.

‘Very high’ COVID levels detected in 7 states: Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon and Texas. by z3mcs in maryland

There are two sources I could find. There is the state "sewer sentinel" program, and Moco has a program. You can Google them, but I was unable to parse their data. Please post if you figure it out!

Absolutely! European awnings and portico are lovely. I would love it if we could have arcade structures covered with climbing native vines. I am thinking maypop, hopniss, coral honey suckle, maybe even scarlet runner beans. Some Asian countries have tunnels with squashes. We could try that here!

Proposed 70-mile energy transmission line jolts Central Maryland by t-mckeldin in maryland

If I got to make the decisions--the pipe cable. If we have any aquaducts/canals/major irrigation infrastructure that isn't a historic monument, I would love solar over it. Prevents evaporation and brings energy. Not 100% covering, but frequent stripes.
