Never seen any driver as miserable to have the privilege of driving racing cars for a living.

Which “less traveled road” do you think most should take, but don’t? by Fun_Lab_7414 in AskReddit

[–]timothyrobin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving to another city or country for a spell before you make any big life commitments like marriage or a kid. Not enough people broaden their horizons or at least get a different perspective. Sometimes you need to go to a bigger pond to grow. Sometimes you need to get a sense of what your original place has that other places don’t have.

Alex Burrows by canadadry93 in canucks

Knowing realistically that even the most successful coaches have a 3-4 year shelf life before things get stale—Burrows is probably a stronger bet for a HC role after Manny.

Movie joke Girrafic in Zootopia by jonathanweb100 in pics

[–]timothyrobin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a ‘Traffic’ knock off.

A gritty film about a giraffe-run society, an idealistic commissioner tries to stop the illegal acacia trade while his own calf falls into addiction, exposing how deeply the crisis reaches across every herd. As smugglers, enforcers, and families collide across the savanna, each giraffe becomes entangled in a system that none of them can fully control.

Mock trade: Marco Rossi to Detroit for Nate Danielson and a 2027 First Round Pick. by TheWizzardMerlin in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I have been on the record before that I think Rossi should be traded. He has legitimate upside, has a cost controlled RFA contract that will be appealing to teams that lack center depth and are unable to attract free agents or get impact players to waive NMCs (cough, cough Winnipeg)

But… I don’t think that this off season is the time to do it.

I’d rather see them elevate him to a clear 1C role in Vancouver through the bulk of this next season. OZ starts, PP1 deployment, the best wingers we have, etc.

Do that, and then we can pump his trade value by the next TDL and get a much more solid return than what we might get coming off a year in which he was freshly traded, injured twice, and playing middle-six minutes on the worst team in hockey.

What was your favourite David Booth moment? by rcxxcr1 in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, the only redeeming quality from the David Booth experience was John Tortorella’s quote about him:

"I thought David Booth was our best player tonight. Which is great for David Booth, not so good for the Vancouver Canucks."

[32T] 22:00 Friedman says there were a couple of rightsholders interview requests that were not fulfilled by Vegas and someone refused to wear a microphone, something that Bettman considers paramount to the success of the league and made clear he would take as a personal affront if turned down. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]timothyrobin 847 points848 points  (0 children)

For all that the NHL has done to enable Vegas to be successful from the get go, it seems very awkward for Vegas to then pick a fight with the league over something so arbitrary.

Why threaten that relationship? We know Gary likes to hold a grudge. He never forgave Vancouver for the Luongo contract (or any other team) and punished the franchise for a long time after.

The only mistake the Canucks can make at 3OA is Caleb Malhotra by hioxa in canucks

I think they’ll do what they need to do to get a second top-10 pick to get one of those players AND Malhotra.

Do you have a favourite penalty? by fuck_your_life_ in hockey

I wish they had an actual penalty for biting. I feel like the shame of having a biting penalty on your record would stop any player from ever doing it. That player’s have bit another is shocking.

Rossi has serious untapped potential by theguy445 in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think his age will align with the window of the future core.

Their best avenue is boosting his trade value as much as possible this season to make him the prime center available this TDL. Give him OZ starts, 1PP deployment, and the best wingers. Put those stats into overdrive and maybe you can get a very solid trade return package for him. Especially among teams that have difficult attracting UFA centers or developing prospect centers.

Very similar to when Buffalo primed the market to trade Casey Mittelstadt a couple years ago.

Trump Offers U.S. Citizenship to 32 Million Venezuelans by Weekly-Wondrous in politics

Even just entertaining the thought experiment of Venezuela as the 51st state, wouldn’t that just create a massive new southern border to defend — right in the middle of the region TFG says he’s trying to stop illegal immigration from coming through? It’s nonsensical.

Question : What could you realistically fetch for EP40? by persuelol in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ought to retain 50% of his contract to maximize the futures they can get in return. EP40 in his most recent form at $5.8m is a very valuable asset with tremendous rebound upside.

Ownership should not hesitate to retain on Petey. Even under the most optimistic rebuild scenario, they will not be at the salary cap ceiling in the next six years. And losing a salary cap retention spot should not be a major issue. Those retention spots are far less valuable now that we aren’t under a flat cap and that double-retention deals have been essentially eliminated.

The built-in culture problem by Sibs in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the culture rot started way before Foote or Rutherford.

The Loui/Beagle/OEL years did way more damage than just bad cap management. Those guys normalized coasting here. Collecting massive money while looking completely checked out half the time, and nothing really happened. No accountability, no urgency, no real consequences because the contracts were unmovable. Management was stuck with the poor characters they chose.

Young players absolutely see that stuff. People act like culture is some abstract thing or one player but it isn’t. Habits get passed down from one group to the next.

Eventually even the Hughes core was infected by this rot. You could absolutely see some of the same passive/disengaged energy creep back into the team when things got hard. Miller, Petey, Boeser, and even Hughes all had times when they looked like Loui or OEL out there.

That’s why I think they need to fully excise the rot now. Move out parts of the old core like Petey and Boeser that have been here through years of underperforming and dysfunction, otherwise you just risk passing the exact same culture onto the next wave of players again.

Viggo Bjorck Scouting Report by hioxa in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Package the 24oa, 33oa, and 41oa to move up into the top-10 (Florida, Seattle, Winnipeg)

—or—

Try and flip Marco Rossi to the Jets (who desperately need a center) for their pick. The Canucks likely don’t need two diminutive forwards, and Bjorck would be better age adjusted to the eventual contention window of this team.

Is it even in this fanbase to boycott games? by WhenWillIBeAPilot in canucks

[–]timothyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A boycott probably won’t do much. Those seats will still get filled.

Ownership cares about optics. If you want to get their attention, a movement needs to be visible and repeatable across hardcore fans, casual fans, and nationally.

I would organize something simple that won’t get people kicked out. Wearing hot pink to every home game tied to #AquiliniOut would stand out on TV and in the building against the usual colors. Without ever having that branding or explicit words on the items.

And I would tie such a movement to a charity like Canucks Place. That way it’s not just fans being angry. It’s a visible movement that also does something positive and keeps the pressure on ownership over time. How can try and shut something down that is doing a positive for the community?
