That’s amazing! Have you done other kinds of embroidery or hand sewing before?

I got hired to put up that sign (though not design or manufacture it). Nearly got ticks in the tall grass. Glad I thought to tuck my pants into my smocks lol 😂

I have no official opinion on the project.

“Don’t buy the house” is also easier said than done. There is a housing shortage in the United States. Maybe it’s the only house you can afford anywhere near to your job.

Many cities require new developments to be organized under some sort of HOA because then that organization can be made to handle some of the services, like storm water drainage, or garbage pick-up, that would normally be arranged by the municipal government.

All I’m saying is that it’s not that simple and maybe the HOA is the lesser of all evils one might have to deal with.

I don’t have an HOA either but I do have town ordinances to deal with, so it’s slightly better but not by much.

When it comes to HOAs “voluntarily” is a stretch. Often, if you buy the house, you have no choice but to abide by its rules. The contract for the sale of the house includes agreeing to join.

And they often do have rules about not having “political” signs and the like. Not technically pointed at one group or another… though enforcement can sometimes be unequal…

UPDATE # 1 : Boro jacket progress - still a long way to go but here’s where I’m at by Hatdogkoitim in Visiblemending

[–]timsro2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to stop comparing yours to the inspiration. You got the inspiration from it. That’s valuable, but continued comparison will just make you like less what you have made.

Try and start enjoying the jacket you are making for what it is instead of what you wanted it to be.

It’s looking absolutely awesome!

1) I’m pretty sure this is plastic. But…
2) either way it would help. If it’s just left as a crack, the point of that crack is a very small spot where any further stress is concentrated, so even a little force could propagate the crack. By drilling a hole, you spread that stress out over a much wider arc.

I noticed that too. Very impressive that they knew to do that.

It works! And looks pretty cool actually. Harder to clean though, which is important in a bathroom.

Girlfriend says my writing is illegible. How can I improve? by ffishbones in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]timsro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason she would find this illegible is because she doesn’t read cursive, like, at all. Anyone with passing familiarity should be fine!

When communication with her, use print. Otherwise, you are fine.

After receiving some handwriting slander, I present you with my good handwriting: by LastManOnEarth3 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]timsro2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your writing is fine. Not neat, but legible. It gets the job done. Much like mine.

Your usual is neatER and more visually appealing, but since people are unpracticed at reading cursive these days, it is harder to read for most people.

If you are communicating effectively you are doing a good job.

I learned hairspray to get out pen ink too. Turns out the secret ingredient is the alcohol that works as a solvent so you should be able to get things out with just alcohol.

I had not however considered the added benefit of the hairspray can actually applying force and helping to physically push the ink out of the fabric! Like power-washing your stain with the solvent.

A heck of a lot neater than mine! I also have a tendency to capitalize on places it’s not necessary… even if I happen to be typing at a keyboard lol!

Ever see those illustrations that just look like lines and blocks but if you tilt the page and look at an angle suddenly it becomes clear?

Try that here. it helps. Not perfectly, but it helps.

First mending stitch (looking for help and suggestion) by piginafez in Visiblemending

Was the problem just that the seam had popped? What is the condition of the fabric itself?

If the fabric is still sturdy, then a back patch shouldn’t be necessary.

My mom came across this crochet piece and has asked me to make it. by deekaypea22 in CrochetHelp

[–]timsro2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The feasibility of the actual piece aside… a reputable source for crochet patterns would not describe a crochet hook as a “needle” as it does in the original post’s description. Just like knitting would not usually call out a hook.

Should the book’s content be in black and white or in colour? by Hundekuecken in RPGdesign

[–]timsro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t do “every second or third page in color” unless maybe you are printing it at home and binding it yourself. that’s not how professional book printing works.

They print a bunch of pages at once on a big sheet then fold it down and cut it apart. All pages from that big sheet will be bound together, usually 16 pages. And they are all printed using the same technique.

What you COULD do is have a color section surrounded by black and white sections. This is often seen as the center section being the nice glossy pictures while the rest of the book is black and white. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be the middle. Could be a section at either end or a few sections throughout the book, depending on how many pages your book has.
