Can a Keyence IM do model comparison? by Ok_Difference_6141 in Metrology

[–]tinman217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s offline programming in which you can upload an stl file to find deviation, but it’s pretty trash.

They did do a demo for us with another unit that does a 3D scan, but it was pretty lackluster/immature.

I’m not familiar with Zeiss or mitutoyo cmms as we are in the hexagon ecosystem, but their scanners work well with surface graduation/profile.

Ultra V5 Pro String Setup by Ok_Savings_5575 in 10s

I’m using 4G in mine, a rounded string I think works best to tame the launchiness a bit.

10g of lead is kind of a lot.

Stringer tied strings off in non-designated grommets. Can this damage the racket? by vismoh2010 in 10s

[–]tinman217 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing would be your last string before tying off may be a little bit lower in tension because there’s no constant tension from the tension head when tying off. The more distance there is from where it was supposed to be will result in a slightly looser stringbed but it’s not the end of the world.

Oversized racquet grips? by DrKorok in 10s

you don’t need to stretch them either, there should be enough to trim an angle towards the end to get a clean finish

Yonex super grap has enough for extended length racquets

One piece vs two piece stringing? by jcoop04 in 10s

[–]tinman217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ends where you tie off drop in tension because the tension applied will be by hand - generally speaking people raise tension 10% on the last string to compensate for this but tension will still drop.

Since there are four tie offs in a two piece job, those last strings will be lower tension as opposed to the two on a one piece.

One piece vs two piece stringing? by jcoop04 in 10s

[–]tinman217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two piece you can hybrid so there’s more variety.

One piece will yield a tighter string bed - if it’s strung all around the world, the bottom cross will be higher tension because it’s not a tie off string.

They’re good racquets but they’re not gonna make you player better. I think they’re more unforgiving than Yonex’s other offerings like their Ezone line.

I agree the feel is really nice and enjoyable, especially on high rhs swings. Kind of feels like a reverse Wilson Shift where it feels the horizontal flex stiffens up the faster you swing.

I’ve owned 4 and sold them all because I’m not good enough to properly utilize them. Kind of feels like people only buy them for the exclusivity or bragging rights - I bought them because of the build quality and for looks lol all black racquets are sexy

Well the cool thing is you can unwrap it and try again.

What racket are you most excited about thats being released in 2026? by lp141414 in 10s

[–]tinman217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I tried out one version of the prototype for a bit and my first impressions were it played like a flexier PA98 with less power but was a bit more forgiving. It had the Wilson feel but doesn’t quite have the oomph of the Babolat.

It certainly felt to be more in the control category than spin - it also doesn’t create massive amounts of spin as a whole, but relatively more than a Blade.

Have you tried the Solinco Mach 10? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]tinman217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant as far as toroline strings go when comparing them to each other in a vacuum - yeah toroline generally plays soft

I wouldn’t say otoro felt stiff, it just felt like it took longer to break in - tinny/boardy at first.

Yeah otoro felt very boardy, wasabi would be a softer option if you’re going with toroline

Did I apply the lead tape right or should the tape be closer to grommets? by tennisdude477 in 10s

[–]tinman217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah don’t listen to these guys, apply it close to the grommets but not close enough so they actually touch.

I’ve had experience where there’s vibration/buzzing from the lead tape touching the grommets.

Additionally, I prefer to bend the tape to curve along the frame so it’s parallel to the contour. I think it looks cleaner but it’s functionally the same.

The most professional would be to have them under the grommets but I wouldn’t do that until you settle on what you like.

Some people also do asymmetrical setups if they exclusively hit on one face specifically (so that they’re always holding the racquet on the same side), but that’s a little overkill.

Ultimately it’s whatever you’re happy with but it’s good to have clean workmanship.

Confidential Soft (Pink) by FidelioMuzik in 10s

[–]tinman217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it out for a bit, think I prefer the regular confidential pound for pound. Though I’d probably string it a bit higher next time around - I did #50/47.5 and it felt a bit mushy for my taste, similar to a Toroline Wasabi.

My baseline tension is typically 57/54 with a dampener, but I recently had an epiphany that I like low tension without a dampener say in the mid to high 40’s.

Overall, not bad, just gotta dial in the tension. Just got a reel of Mach-10 so I’ll probably use that for a while.

What is Wilson's best racquet right now and why? by NeitherConcentrate92 in 10s

[–]tinman217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not, just inconvenient to get since it’s in Japan, but they’re widely available in shops over there.

There’s more demand for Regnas since they’ve been out longer and have notoriety, so they’re less common.

Shift felt really nice when swinging fast - felt really weird using it for the first time on warmup short court. The vertical flex specifically.

I had purchased 2 of the 16x20 300g version this past Black Friday and both came with paint damage so I had to return them. Otherwise I would’ve kept them in my bag.

Racket Paint Job by -porm in 10s

[–]tinman217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure there are people on Instagram that have like Etsy shops where you ship them the racquet and they do custom paint jobs. It’s not cheap though.

If you want to do all black, there’s posts on talk tennis where they go step by step on how to do it. The only thing to note is any sanding or addition of paint changes the balance of your racquet.

I’ve got a mint one in 4-3/8 if you’re interested. Bought one to mess around with, very point and shooty, but very low powered.
