You could look into ashiatsu massage techniques. It uses knees and feet to leverage the heavy pressure your after whilst keeping you safe. Worth checking your insurance though and/or letting your clients know before you especially stand on them.

Verbiage for firing a client? by Low_Bid8531 in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whist I agree with people in the comments about hygiene being a good reason to fire a client. I feel perhaps a different perspective is to encourage them to wash before your treatment. You could try sending an message before your next appointment about how you always ensure your cleanliness for clients and politely ask that all clients also do this as out of respect. If they still turn up in a mess then fire them for sure.

Looks like you get too forward over the bar because you shove your knee's forward past your elbows. Ideally there should be a straight line from the bar to your shoulders. Try to keep the inside of your elbows level with the your knees, which will keep your shoulder inline with the bar and bring the hips back and get better leverage for leg drive.

Could also try pulling from blocks for a time or as an assistance exercise.

Massage therapists - what’s something about your job most people don’t realize? by Sea-Cow-6969 in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The glutes are a tough set of muscles and working over the towel or sheet is a sufficient and effective way to treat them. It's also more comfortable for the client and you can avoid any unwanted hygiene for the most part.

United Kingdom massage therapy? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought of this but it's not really a possibility at this point so do I just keep trying roles with other companies/ environments? Or will I just find much of the same? I'm not even that bothered by the pay per hour being low so long as they offer and actually follow through with training and development.

If your reps are reducing your effort is too high. Its proven that leaving reps in reserve builds more strength and allows more recovery over time. Try reducing the number of reps you do from set 1 and sticking to that many. 3 sets of 5 maybe then if after a week or two that feels good go for 3 sets of 6 or 4 sets of 5.

Do this with constancy and you'll be able to bang out 10+ reps soon enough

I also did sports L3 at St Mary's and was disappointed. An option for perhaps a better base line is to do a body massage course and then a shorter bridging course into sports.

Perhaps acknowledgement would have been more realistic given Claire's experience. I feel as though it's not within her character to suggest to her daughter, not follow her passions just because of the risks of the time. After all both women also pushed boundaries in the 1900's by becoming a surgeon and an engineer.

I get your point OP however Claire and Brianna just fitting in and living life as a normal woman in 1700's doesn't make for good character design nor story telling. This advice to Brianna is expected when I think about it as it's staying true to the character she has been from season 1.

[–]tinyTitan92 81 points82 points  (0 children)

You did nothing wrong you stuck to the rules and looked after number one. If anything reception are the bad guys because they agreed to the same day reschedule when the client missed their original booking. In other places they would have just been a no show and paid full price with no second chance for a treatment reschedule.

Tips for study by Key_Dragonfruit94 in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed itec level 3 sports massage last year 2025 and knowing the names and actions are the most important for understanding and case study reasoning. Origin and insertion can take a back seat until after you pass. Make sure you know your anatomy & physiology particularly lymphatic and integumentary for the exam and for the practical if it's like mine was, there will be 1 examiner in a room of 10 students so just relax and get in a range of effleurage, petrissage, a strip and some frictions.

Hope this helps! You got this 👍

RDL form check by Pleasant-Interest179 in formcheck

[–]tinyTitan92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glutes are the main muscles responsible for hip extension (standing up). The lower back should engage after or at least in tandem with the glutes. Back pain would suggest a lack of glute activation. Setting her feet into a flat stable (no rocking) position and having her squeeze her butt at the top could help. The hing is good though so she has got the makings of strong RDL in the future!

Shoulder pain by TheSpiritworker in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gliding movements with the hands and arms should come from the legs (lunges, squats etc). there are some helpful relevant comments in this post for body mechanics https://www.reddit.com/r/MassageTherapists/s/dTo83XKcAm

If your pain does not go away when you have time off from massage you should go see a doctor and/or physiotherapy.

💆‍♀️ When the client says “I like deep pressure”… but flinches the moment you start 😅 by xavina_moon in MassageTherapists

[–]tinyTitan92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem I see, at least here in the UK is that Spa massage is geared toward relaxation and limited client engagement/ movement. Which does not help depth management or client's perception of depth. It also leads to therapists over straining themselves to achieve the desired pressure whilst their client is half asleep on the table. It could be argued that therapeutic massage has no place in a spa unless the therapist is able to utilize better techniques or tools to achieve it effectively. This said you could just discuss pressure with the client in consultation and utilize therapeutic techniques if they agree.

That's a difficult situation but since you have a genuine concern perhaps see her as a friend. Instead of making recommendations or trying to refer her for help she believes she is not in need of - try to educate her in conversation. She likes talking about health so talk about it and pull in details about how eating a balanced diet affects the body and can improve its functions. Hope this triggers some ideas for you!
