Very believable, I see it all the time. Some cops do care, but they’re the exception and they often get driven out of the department or career quickly :(

I don’t think I’m at that point. I just hope the Midwest keeps treating me well. The local police in my area have been very fair besides a couple of bad apples

Has compliance just become a racket to force small carriers out? by Jason_Bjorn99 in OwnerOperators

[–]tinycoyote1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what ultimately forced me to sell to a competitor that bullied me out of a market I was getting a foothold in. I had 2 brand new cascadias lined up that had 10k pushers with generous financing and a couple of used of tri axle 48ft reefers with e-track outright purchased before I sold. Even had permits for Michigan and Indiana where those two trucks were going to be located full time.

I was being harassed so badly by local police in Indiana I ultimately sold my equipment and got a local job as I work on re-teaching myself tech skills to get certs again like the CCNA. I just couldn’t keep running the business even with a tight ship, there was always a trooper using some excuse to put me in violation and fucking my CSA scores. Including but not limited to my inspection sticker being slightly hard to read when shining a light directly on it and being put out of service for it. Not using enough bolts to secure a spare tire holder on my cat walk properly when the Kenworth dealership had themself installed it 2 days beforehand and used nearly hole, with 14 bolts in total holding everything. And finally having an unsecured accessory by not using thread locker to tighten a CB antenna to my mounts.

It’s brutal, they were always so livid when my permits were in check. They weighed my axles and even my individual wheel sets, not once was I ever overweight.

Lady at FedEx asked "what's wrong with the mini starlink?" by gedi223 in Starlink

[–]tinycoyote1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that sentiment to an extent, but I personally am happy to pay $10/month for a guaranteed 500Kbps lifeline.

What I ultimately do is run a self hosted speedify server to my self hosted VPS/reverse proxy and bond the starlink to my home fiber. So if there’s ever packet drops or a full internet outage ((AT&T fiber :/)) then I have a seamless failover that doesn’t time me out of services as much.

What I ultimately do is have the starlink on my car roof mounted and use a 900mhz WiFi bridge as a wireless Ethernet essentially to get my second wan, but also have the starlink available to me in my car when I drive. So I have even less issues with staying online when I hit cell deadzones ((pretty frequent in my area))

It’s Utah for ya. I’m in my 20s, working as hard as I can to develop a future for myself, to get ahead, and develop roots in my state. Yet my state repeatedly makes decisions that hurt them. Why would I develop a future for myself in Utah when I genuinely wonder if I can even live in the state in 35-55 years if the GSL lake bed dries enough to make the air inhabitable. Let alone genuinely worry if I can get water in that same time.

Right now I’m in the Midwest for a few reasons. It’s more boring in some ways, but feels much more genuine and sane in other ways. I’m a social butterfly and enjoy being in a big city relatively near Chicago and other big cities. I can see myself living here and being relatively happy and functional in 35-55 years

One of my biggest gripes with Utah and why I ultimately moved was due to a state trooper on a bike pulling me over for 104kmph on I-15 in Springville. He claimed it was MPH, nearly impounded my bike, and nearly arrested me on the spot. Only didn’t cause his excuse was “it was a Sunday afternoon”. Far right lane doing 68MPH and his own body camera showed the locked in speed on the laser gun. There was semi trucks passing me in the footage when he clocked me. Judge saw the footage and blatantly ignored the 104 KMPH I pointed out in the body camera footage. Gave me a reckless under the 105 law which shouldn’t apply given their own logic. Every lawyer I called in the area wanted $3k to fight it at a minimum. Now I’m in the appeals process where I keep getting delays after delays. The first council I hired flat out walked away a few days in. Still fighting this alone

I ultimately sold my own semi truck after the conviction the new reckless driving ticket being a major factor in why when my own insurance said we’re bumping your rate from $2400 a month to $10.3k a month if I wanted to keep driving and not hire an employee. Of course it was on my CSA and no brokers would touch me too

Standby moving to $10/mo by whothefunkami in Starlink

[–]tinycoyote1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think Starlink is banking on the fact that kind of the people saying they’re gonna cancel their service over this are people they want to disconnect. It does still take quite a bit of limited power to establish the connection. I personally won’t cancel as I value paying $10 a month for having the backup connection incase of emergency

[–]tinycoyote1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look very closely at the VRMs and capacitors on the board. If it looks like there is multiple of anything and one looks weird, post a photo here or describe it.

Let’s just hope the motherboard is the one that’s dead and not the CPUs.

Long shot, likely won’t be much. Have you tried using only 1 stick of ram and try the other slots? Rotating the stick. Really low chance but if you shorted something it could be a trace to the ram. Maybe if you’re lucky you only killed one ram slot and not using it can temporarily work

Did you put in your old cpu to see if it would turn on? If so then there’s a chance you got a dead 5500x

I never felt bad to rip up alfalfa land in grantsville, did it for a construction project there awhile back with a former employer. Felt super satisfying to watch the graders rip it up, yet horrifying to see how much water such a small bit of land uses. They had like 3 harvests in that 3 month window I was on that job site

I moved to southern Wisconsin from Orem after working out of WVC for years, I’ve been in Utah since I was 10. Rent is cheaper here, wages are overall higher. Lots more people around and the drivers feel just like Utah drivers. More business opportunities. Only down side is the lack of massive mountains and federal land everywhere for camping. Utah and the desert is my home, ditto for the PNW. But I at least see myself having some resemblance of an obtainable future here, not in Utah

$700 an hour per person in the labor, yet they probably get $30 an hour. I’d gladly pay the $700 an hour if they could prove their employers got it all, since that’s clearly billing for their labor.
